RWBY Thread III: Time To Say Goodbye

Stop: So gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
so gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
We get a lot of reports from this thread. A lot of it is just a series of people yelling at each other over arguments that have been rehashed hundreds of times since the end of the recent Volume. And I get that the last Volume - and RWBY in general, really - has some controversial moments that people will want to discuss, argue about, debate, etc.

That's fine. We're not going to stop people from doing that, because that's literally what the point of the thread is. However, there's just a point where it gets to be a bit too much, and arguments about whether or not Ironwood was morally justified in his actions in the recent Volume, or if RWBY and her team were in the right for withholding information from Ironwood out of distrust, or whatever flavor of argument of the day descend into insulting other posters, expressing a demeaning attitude towards other's opinions, and just being overall unpleasant. That tends to happen a lot in this thread. We want it to stop happening in this thread.

So! As of now the thread is in a higher state of moderation. What that means is that any future infractions will result in a weeklong boot from the thread, and repeated offenders will likely be permanently removed. So please, everyone endeavor to actually respect the other's arguments, and even if you strongly disagree with them please stay civil and mindful when it comes to responding to others.

In addition, users should refrain from talking about off-site users in the thread. Bear in mind that this does not mean that you cannot continue to post tumblr posts, for example, that add onto the discussion in the thread, with the caveat that it's related to RWBY of course. But any objections to offsite users in the thread should be handled via PM, or they'll be treated as thread violations and infracted as such.

RUBY WHY DID YOU SPLIT THE PARTY DAMN YOU NOW THE SHOW HAS TO BE RENAMED RNJR.

Seriously though, I've had enough of the side characters. Especially Jaune. Why couldn't he have died against Cinder? If we're going by naming themes and all, which we apparently are considering how RT's animators made sure to go out of their way to show an arrow in her heel. I want to see more RWBY. Goddamn it, Miles and Kerry, learn how to fucking pace your story. Where's the breathing room? Where is the downtime where we see Ruby recovering and trying to take care of Yang? Beautiful set-up for a role-reversal, where Ruby is now the one taking care of Yang instead of vice-versa. Maybe see her trying and failing to call Weiss, or asking Sun about Blake. One. Single. Episode is all it would take. Instead, it's off to Haven, for... reasons. Seriously, why Haven other than Cinder supposedly came from that school? Has it never occurred to them that Cinder might have been lying? And speaking of missed opportunities, what the actual fuck did Raven and Yang talk about? It's been an entire. fucking. season. with not even the slightest explanation in sight.

M&K dropped the ball hard. If RWBY didn't have Oum's name behind it, it wouldn't have been greenlit for a second season, let alone 5 or more. It's very sub-par. The poor animation quality I could deal with. The constant writing hiccups, not so much.

While I am saddened and worried about lots of Jaune in place of RWBY I disagree with the rest and still wonder why you insist on watching a show you seemingly hate. Regardless though I disagree that its bad pacing and or notin character for Ruby to opt to seek out the nearest villain and smash them with her scythe, these are people who got her sister seriously wounded, destroyed her school and killed her friends, hanging around looking after Yang would be nice but Tai is there for that, Ruby feels she needs to fight and deal out justice. Also given Cinder participated in the tournament it feels like a pretty strong connection and as was noted, its the only one they have.

I just found a nice gif of Ozpin' super speed:

I think that Ozpin likes the matrix a bit too much :V

Holy shiz he blocked them. When I first watched it I just thought he dodged but jesus christ. He'd better not be dead!

In other news, I am thinking about doing a Bloodborne inspired (not a direct crossover) where the red-purple world where Salem and maybe Raven hang out is a nightmare-plane (and that's why Grimm dissolve when they die -they're returning to the dream to be reborn, which is why they also keep on coming back. And why they're reluctant to die the longer they've survived - they're going to lose all their blood echoes!). Dunno if anyone's interested in this idea...

Something I want to say about Pyrrahs death: At one point in his life, Achillies was given a choice: He could life a long but simple life, or a glory-filled but short one. In a way, this choice sealed Achillies fate far more than his heel did, since it decided the course of his destiny.
Given all the choices that have been around Pyrrah this volume,it's easy to see parallels between this part of the myth and this volume.

I'd completely forgotten about that, yeah someone made this observation a little while back, he could choose to go to war and become like a god in fame or live a quiet life with his lover/future lover and he was apparently quite conflicted on the issue.
Pyrrha 'could' have run, but she felt it was her duty to try and stop Cinder and so while she could have run away she opted to stay and fight, arg the parallels work so well, so sad, but so awesome.

Indeed. Miles and Kerry's strong points as writers has always been thematics, especially character-driven ones. They're usually plagued by pacing issues, but they're also very good at expressing something fundamental and important and true about their characters at climactic moments. Epsilon-Church and Pyrrha's endings in their respective shows are probably the best examples.

Hell/Tarturus/the Greek Underworld's torture section? Or the "Grimmify Pyrrah so she becomes an enemy" theiry?
The latter I think, Salem's home still seems to be somewhere on Remnant, though that doesn't necessarily stop it from being like an Underworld I guess given it was meant to exist on Earth as well. But my understanding is that the general idea is that Pyrrha was teloported over disintegrated into Salem's hands for any number of reasons, its a cool idea and in truth I wouldn't have minded if a scene like this one had existed, granted Pyrrha's death was amazing and heartbreaking but still, this could also be a cool idea. I mostly just posted it because I think I recall seeing discussion along these lines on this thread and thought it would be relevant.

My guess is that its that continent to the north of the one that Vales on. You know, the one shaped kind of like a dragon?

Would you classify Pyrrah as a Paladin in RPG terms? Considering RWBY is basically a FF game, it would work to turn Pyrrah into a Dark Knight as an enemy returned to the party after removing brainwashing. Xenoblade and Bravely Default did it, so it could work here.

Agreed, that or the similar looking area near Mistral.

I could definitely see her as a paladin yeah.

So the theory has come up here before but I have to admit, in many respects this comic makes me feel like it could work.

I like that alot but another thought came to mind with the way that Pyrrha disintegrated and such it reminded me of this from Chrono Trigger

Which could also mean a possible time stop/travel in order to save her.

Ehhh... Only a Schnee could even pull that off, but none has unlocked that hax an ability for their glyphs yet.
