RWBY Thread III: Time To Say Goodbye

Stop: So gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
so gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
We get a lot of reports from this thread. A lot of it is just a series of people yelling at each other over arguments that have been rehashed hundreds of times since the end of the recent Volume. And I get that the last Volume - and RWBY in general, really - has some controversial moments that people will want to discuss, argue about, debate, etc.

That's fine. We're not going to stop people from doing that, because that's literally what the point of the thread is. However, there's just a point where it gets to be a bit too much, and arguments about whether or not Ironwood was morally justified in his actions in the recent Volume, or if RWBY and her team were in the right for withholding information from Ironwood out of distrust, or whatever flavor of argument of the day descend into insulting other posters, expressing a demeaning attitude towards other's opinions, and just being overall unpleasant. That tends to happen a lot in this thread. We want it to stop happening in this thread.

So! As of now the thread is in a higher state of moderation. What that means is that any future infractions will result in a weeklong boot from the thread, and repeated offenders will likely be permanently removed. So please, everyone endeavor to actually respect the other's arguments, and even if you strongly disagree with them please stay civil and mindful when it comes to responding to others.

In addition, users should refrain from talking about off-site users in the thread. Bear in mind that this does not mean that you cannot continue to post tumblr posts, for example, that add onto the discussion in the thread, with the caveat that it's related to RWBY of course. But any objections to offsite users in the thread should be handled via PM, or they'll be treated as thread violations and infracted as such.

Hmmm, back from work, let's watch the new episode.

. . .

AAAAAAAAAAH

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHH

Adam needs to die.
I don't care if Torchwick and Cinder survive, and all of Vale burns to the ground.
But Adam needs to die.
Guessing you're a big Blake and Yang fan? I'm right there with ya though, I really want those two to come back on him in a future episode and tear him apart. Who knows, maybe he'll get eaten by the dragon?

I know its a faint hope but I kind of want the White Fang to mutiny because the Grim have clearly turned on them and a sort of "The dragon was not part of the deal Adam!"

I'm a big fan of all the girls.
Adam is just a massive scumbag and must die without delay. The kind of abusive relationship that's being portrayed... we're only seeing the tip of the iceberg.

Me too, well I imagine most of us are, but yeah, its looking really, really messed up, at first I was thinking he'd just gone off the deep end working for Cinder but after looking at that post it seems more likely he's been a scum-bag for some time. Urg, just thinking about him makes me feel dirty like that "Why must you hurt me?" Line after he chopped off Yang's arm and had been beating her then tried to f********* behead her!

On the subject of Adam I think that the Cinder situation probably magnified what issues he had. If I had to guess he's probably started to rationalize all the problems and people he's lost as Blake's fault regardless of how much of a leap of logic that would be.

Yeah.
I'm now remembering every single fanfic that had Adam as halfway decent or even likable.

Nope NOPE NOPE TORCH AND BURN SALT THE EARTH ADAM HAS TO DIE

There's quite a few authors struggling to reconcile how they wrote him with how he turned out to be, even one's where he stayed a ruthless villain.

Agreed, I hope his defeat and demise is suitably brutal and explosive, he's earned it.

I just wish they'd made him more complex then "raragh I am evil evilness"

Also bracing for the tide of Blake/Yang fans who don't understand the word friendship. Except as a reference to shipping of friends together.

You know, it's unlikely to be a popular opinion, but I kinda wish that it had been Sun instead of Yang. Because as much as I enjoy Blake/Sun as a pairing, Sun doesn't have Yang protagonist armour (not to say said armour is a bad thing) so he could have been dealt a much more serious wound.

'Cause I'm sorry but RT cannot ask people to give a fuck about Yang losing an arm in the same episode that Ironwood is revealed to be roughly 50% metal and 100% awesome. She'll get a prosthetic, it'll be awesome.

One of the things that I loved about this recent episode was the score.
It has such a dramatic buildup. It really conveyed just how much was hinging on current events. The climax of the season. It was make it or break it.
And it broke.

The sudden switch from the orchestral build up and choir to... nothing but a music box.

That haunting music box... and the echoes of the few instruments that remain.

I don't think I've ever heard a better soundtrack anywhere that has conveyed that one, simple, devastating message to such horrifying effect.

"You've lost."

Well seeing as its come up here I guess I might as well cross-post this.
So, just thought I'd throw this out there seeing as its liable to come up. While I do enjoy the ship Yang/Blake, I do agree with some here that the scene in this episode in no way confirms it. However, I feel this is important to stress, given the narrative framing of it, I can definitely see why some are taking it to at the very least hint at potential being there for the ship, whether there is or it turns out to be the case is up for personal opinion and the creators respectively, but given this is a fandom that takes two characters getting into a fight as there being potential to ship them and some drinking out of someone else's cup as a sign of affection, well, this is hardly the most absurd thing to use as inspiration for a pairing. I'm not actually trying to start a debate or anything with this, I enjoy the ship, sometimes I read fics about it or find art with it, but I won't argue that its "canon" now, or will be in the future, that's for, well, the writers to decide if its even an option in their minds, I just thought I'd offer my perspective on the matter, apologies if this came across as aggressive or incisive.

I just realized, this will also make any Blake stays with the White Fang or flash backs to the White Fang way more internally messed up, even if Adam wasn't blatantly physically abusive back then I can easily see him being emotionally abusive and manipulative.

Here's to hoping that Ruby just shoots her. Just... *BOOM! Headshot*

Everybody else: :o

Ruby: *Descending from the heavens on a parachute* "Where's Adam!?! After what he did to Yang, I need to give him a hand."

Yang: :D *So proud. Much pain. Ow.*

Ruby: "TO HIS DEATH!" *reloads Crescent Rose. Looks adorably menacing.*

Much as I ship Bumblebee, most of my comments on 'confirmed canon' are semi-joking. I do hope Miles and Kerry have the stones to get them together (and keep White Rose as a friendship only - there, I said it at long last, I don't really ship Weiss/Ruby) and I'll always subtext the fuck out of them, but it's also not my story to tell (otherwise, as I said earlier, Ruby would have lost an arm, not Yang).

On Adam: I don't think he's 'evil arghblagh' though I do fucking hate him now, I think like most abusive fuckwits he's a human being - Faunus being, whatever - and that in many ways makes it worse. We saw in Beginning of the End that he has his own twisted version of an honour code, and even here he was smart enough to just stab Blake and cut Yang's arm off rather than engage in a lengthy fight where reinforcements might arrive or he might get distracted. And honestly? I like the fact that the show's actually showing a seriously fucked up relationship (even ignoring recent revelations, the age gap between Blake and Adam must be pretty large, and that's even before the chain of command stuff) as seriously fucked up.

Ironically, Adam may see Blake as not a person, but a pet.
Meh, I think that he sees her as a person. Don't let your love of cats blind you, Bleach!

Blake is a faunus, not an adorable kitten! :V

He will, probably. Though seeing the tone of the last few episodes I think that it will take a while before the protagonists start winning again.

Well, nobody expects Yang to become useless, but losing an arm does show how serious the series really is.

And here I thought it was aimed at a pretty young audience.

I wonder how much of the series was planned by Monty ahead of time...

Ironwood is revealed to be roughly 50% metal and 100% awesome.

This is a pretty good way to describe Ironwood. Though I'd replace "awesome" with "badass".

Interesting thought I just had but isn't Adam and Blake's fairy tale motiff supposed to be Beauty and the Beast? This could be a deconstruction of the classic tale. Especially the Disney version.

If you ask me, Blake or Yang should be the one(s) that ultimately defeat him. There can be (and should be) other characters fighting him but one of those two (or both) should put the final nail in his coffin. He's done quite a bit of damage to their lives and it'd make for great development for our heroes.

Ironwood has become one of my favorite characters this volume. He's so cool!

Oh and that sexy pistol... That Pistol is just amazing...

Yang needs to get a robot arm like him! She must!
