RWBY Thread III: Time To Say Goodbye

Stop: So gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
so gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
We get a lot of reports from this thread. A lot of it is just a series of people yelling at each other over arguments that have been rehashed hundreds of times since the end of the recent Volume. And I get that the last Volume - and RWBY in general, really - has some controversial moments that people will want to discuss, argue about, debate, etc.

That's fine. We're not going to stop people from doing that, because that's literally what the point of the thread is. However, there's just a point where it gets to be a bit too much, and arguments about whether or not Ironwood was morally justified in his actions in the recent Volume, or if RWBY and her team were in the right for withholding information from Ironwood out of distrust, or whatever flavor of argument of the day descend into insulting other posters, expressing a demeaning attitude towards other's opinions, and just being overall unpleasant. That tends to happen a lot in this thread. We want it to stop happening in this thread.

So! As of now the thread is in a higher state of moderation. What that means is that any future infractions will result in a weeklong boot from the thread, and repeated offenders will likely be permanently removed. So please, everyone endeavor to actually respect the other's arguments, and even if you strongly disagree with them please stay civil and mindful when it comes to responding to others.

In addition, users should refrain from talking about off-site users in the thread. Bear in mind that this does not mean that you cannot continue to post tumblr posts, for example, that add onto the discussion in the thread, with the caveat that it's related to RWBY of course. But any objections to offsite users in the thread should be handled via PM, or they'll be treated as thread violations and infracted as such.

I don't care what they want, one way or the other (in large part because my connection to the RWBY fandom is limited to this thread)? The observation that it wasn't obvious at the time V8 aired that the civilians who fell were dead happens to be correct.

Entirely fair, but if they don't return on screen, it's safe to assume they're dead without it really impacting the plot, and certainly not reflecting on RWBY. Personally, I hope we get a body at least. It will not at all help Ruby's mental state.

Don't the mods get upset about pointing out the names of people who aren't here even when they're part of the topic of discussion?

Fair. In this case, I mentioned them because I felt the initial Tumblr post of theirs felt to be discussed, given the false pretenses I felt it was operating under.
{looks over at the mass evacuation effort that he had to stop on the account of Cinder managing to sneak in}

Yes, stop an evacuation effort because someone dangerous was ALREADY IN ATLAS, then abandon them to die horrible deaths. That's really trying to save lives.

(the other, unmentioned piece of this is that I haven't seen any of V9's episodes yet, being neither a First subscriber nor a particularly effective navigator of the seven seas.)

It seemed that was more becuase he decided to bolt before Salem showed up with her army.

See, that's the tragic part. Look at the timing of events in that episode. Winter and Penny were sent to murder Fria for her powers and the vault key before Salem even made contact. He initiated his plan to run away when the only threat he knew of was that someone, probably Cinder, broke into his office. The rest was his own paranoia and fear.

If he had kept the evacuations going he might have had most of if not all of Mantle in Atlas by the time Salem actually started the invasion, and if he had been watching Mantle and the area around it then he might have seen the rivers of Grimm Goo coming to try slowing them down with bombardments from his ships, making them actually useful for once.

Yup. Salem knew, via Watts, then backed up by the actions he took when she pressed the issue elsewhere, that when pressed, Ironwood pulled back and turtled up, even if it meant abandoning or outright turning on allies. Which is why she manifested in his office when he did. She played off his existing fear, amped it up so that all he could focus on was her, and with that he played right into her hands.

Okay I'm confused are people saying that that scene in Sunday's episode was implying that Yang or Ruby didn't love their sister as much anymore or something? Like I admittedly do not pay attention to most RWBY criticism because finding the good faith arguments through Carnival of bad takes is more trouble then it's worth most of the time, but critizing that scene feels very strange to me.

It's the same kind of thing we got back in V6 when Yang grabbed Blake and booked it out of the creepy farmhouse instead of grabbing Ruby.
Same Shit. Different Season.

But Ruby was least effected by Apathy, why should Yang need to grab her hand, she's not five!
According to these people if Yang doesn't focus literally all of her energy and time on Ruby and treat her as the most specialist, importatest little girl in the world then she's clearly been bamboozled by the bellabooty and led astray by her lustful weakness and is thus a monster and a bad, uncaring sister.

On the topic of those people:

My personal favorite brand of that genius was the guy that insisted they were so selfish they'd have started scissoring then and there, except RT needs to keep queerbaiting. Because at least he's still spouting the old anti-bee buzzwords while finding new ways to be an idiot.

Sun is basically a shallower but more open Yang with a dick for Blake though?

Eh, I'd argue that besides being blonde, caring about Blake, and having abs you could grind meat on, Yang and Sun are wildly different characters.

These are also the types who said that since Yang called Raven "Mom" and said "Ruby's Mom" that means she didn't care about Summer anymore. Or the fact she didn't break down like Ruby did at Salem's yo mamma rebuttal. It completely ignores the fact when Yang calls Raven "Mom" there's usually a giant amount of sarcasm and scorn in her voice.

Which is really silly because I'm pretty sure that Yang didn't have as strong a reaction to that because she was concerned about Ruby's terrified reaction.

And Volume 8 went out of it's way to say both of those arguments are stupid.
