RWBY Thread III: Time To Say Goodbye

Stop: So gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
so gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
We get a lot of reports from this thread. A lot of it is just a series of people yelling at each other over arguments that have been rehashed hundreds of times since the end of the recent Volume. And I get that the last Volume - and RWBY in general, really - has some controversial moments that people will want to discuss, argue about, debate, etc.

That's fine. We're not going to stop people from doing that, because that's literally what the point of the thread is. However, there's just a point where it gets to be a bit too much, and arguments about whether or not Ironwood was morally justified in his actions in the recent Volume, or if RWBY and her team were in the right for withholding information from Ironwood out of distrust, or whatever flavor of argument of the day descend into insulting other posters, expressing a demeaning attitude towards other's opinions, and just being overall unpleasant. That tends to happen a lot in this thread. We want it to stop happening in this thread.

So! As of now the thread is in a higher state of moderation. What that means is that any future infractions will result in a weeklong boot from the thread, and repeated offenders will likely be permanently removed. So please, everyone endeavor to actually respect the other's arguments, and even if you strongly disagree with them please stay civil and mindful when it comes to responding to others.

In addition, users should refrain from talking about off-site users in the thread. Bear in mind that this does not mean that you cannot continue to post tumblr posts, for example, that add onto the discussion in the thread, with the caveat that it's related to RWBY of course. But any objections to offsite users in the thread should be handled via PM, or they'll be treated as thread violations and infracted as such.

Flash: Why do you call your planet remnant?

Ruby: Because we're all that's left.

Flash:... That's incredibly depressing!

Ruby and Barry would get along pretty well.

Plus, both of them lost their moms at a young age by the actions of petty assholes hellbent on making everyone they hate miserable since they can never have the happy ending they want.

I mean, the villains objective is to make Ironwood look bad, damn the consequences and undermining that goes with it, so naturally one of the bloggers who always goes "Iron Man Bad" would vouch for him while simultaneously jabbing at someone pointing out the unfortunate implications of a union worker being turned into a villain a month and some change after RT had been ousted for being the sort of scum that would require a union to stop.

Putting aside that this person shouldn't be platformed, what a godawful take. "The Breach was an inside job by Ironwood!"

nice fanfiction, karen.

*ahem*

Mom Hug
She deserves it.

Dad Pain
If we get a shot for Ghira then we'll have the complete set.

Goncharov Holiday
I did not know this.

Plus, she's gonna be Yang's mother-in-law before you know it.

They can all meet up soon and bond over having to witness tragedy and suffering befall their daughters.

There is actually a fanfiction series where those left behind end up gathering in Vacuo as they each try to come to terms with their shared losses and even awkwardly try to bond as they carry on and move forward.

In case you're not on tumblr enough to know, Goncharov isn't an actual film that got made. It's... a mass hallucination people are retroactively making based on a weird thing that someone saw?

So there was a bit on the back of the tongue on a shoe someone got that had "The Best Mafia Movie Ever Made" "Martin Scorcese presents GONCHAROV, a Matteo JWHJ0715 film" and a bunch of other related text on it. Sleuthing has largely determined that what happened was that the show was a knockoff and, much like you see CUGGL items in the GUCCI font to pretend to be something else, the shoe needed some text to make the thing look legit to someone who didn't know English. So they probably scanned a 1973 poster for Gomorrah using a text-to-embroidery-pattern machine set to Cyrillic characters (based on the misspelling of the title and a few other textual alterations). They probably just saw it had about the right amount of text and went for it. Boom, instant legit-seeming-enough-to-sell bit to put on a knockoff shoe...

And then someone on Tumblr took a pic, went "what the hell is this about?" back in 2020, and it just recently caught on and before the above sleuthing was complete a whole bunch of folks had done extra work on imagesets, fake posters and VHS covers, even songs supposedly from the OST. People are acting like it's real in a lot of ways and places, and creating stuff to help sell the illusion/joke (up to and including including Lynda Carter sharing photos of herself "at the premiere" of the film).

OK that is amazing.

Not enough people consider the similarites between Wash's fighting style in RvB and Ice-Pick Johnnys in Goncharov. Close in knife fighting and rifle work. All very standard and effective, compared to the flashiness of the other freelances.

The heck is Goncharov?
Great Greedy Guts already covered it.

Sooooo long story short, an old post on Tumblr resurfaced showing someone's imitation brand boots and printed on the label was an advertisement for a fake movie. People found it hilarious and someone made a movie poster for it and it took off in a big way, now there's a whole OST soundtrack of original music, massive meta analysis, art and more.
