RWBY Thread III: Time To Say Goodbye

Stop: So gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
so gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
We get a lot of reports from this thread. A lot of it is just a series of people yelling at each other over arguments that have been rehashed hundreds of times since the end of the recent Volume. And I get that the last Volume - and RWBY in general, really - has some controversial moments that people will want to discuss, argue about, debate, etc.

That's fine. We're not going to stop people from doing that, because that's literally what the point of the thread is. However, there's just a point where it gets to be a bit too much, and arguments about whether or not Ironwood was morally justified in his actions in the recent Volume, or if RWBY and her team were in the right for withholding information from Ironwood out of distrust, or whatever flavor of argument of the day descend into insulting other posters, expressing a demeaning attitude towards other's opinions, and just being overall unpleasant. That tends to happen a lot in this thread. We want it to stop happening in this thread.

So! As of now the thread is in a higher state of moderation. What that means is that any future infractions will result in a weeklong boot from the thread, and repeated offenders will likely be permanently removed. So please, everyone endeavor to actually respect the other's arguments, and even if you strongly disagree with them please stay civil and mindful when it comes to responding to others.

In addition, users should refrain from talking about off-site users in the thread. Bear in mind that this does not mean that you cannot continue to post tumblr posts, for example, that add onto the discussion in the thread, with the caveat that it's related to RWBY of course. But any objections to offsite users in the thread should be handled via PM, or they'll be treated as thread violations and infracted as such.

Yes such as the context of the smiley in my comment to imply that this is a joke. Also Oscar is a literal child who shouldn't be dating anyone even if his parasitic alternative personality is 'really 900 years old'
Eh, he's 14. Oscar/Ruby isn't too unusual an age difference, and would probably be my favorite straight ship in RWBY if it weren't for the Ozpin skeeviness.

I'm just going to say it, I personally don't give a shit what Monty would have thought. Honestly the man didn't exactly wow me with his writing. The man was very good at his area of expertise but I don't really think it matters what he would have approved of.

Pretty much this. Anyone who tries to claim Monty Oum didn't have skill, talent, and an outright phenomenal (but deeply unhealthy) work ethic can piss right off.

But the man's real area of expertise was focused on shoestring CGI animation. Which is, if memory serves, how he wound up at Rooster Teeth in the first place.

Writing was never really in his skill set.

Honestly, I've wondered what RWBY would have looked like if he'd had less of a part in the story as he was apparently one of the big drivers behind throwing in everything and the kitchen sink into the plot.

I have one question, How does aging work in RWBY? If Ruby was 15 in season one then Oscar doesn't look one or two years younger then the rest of the season one cast but multiple years younger. I would have pegged him at 12 and at most 13. The anime aging is strong in RWBY. :V

That's not really "anime aging," that's just the simple fact that people don't always look their exact age, especially in adolescence where you have some kids who basically look like adults before they can legally drive and others who are still going to be mistaken for high schoolers in their 30s.

The real instances of anime aging is stuff like the main cast's mothers all looking basically the same age as their children except for some lines around the eyes.

And then suddenly they go poof into cute little senior citizen raisin people when they become grandmothers. :p

. . .

I mean, RWBY actually has this canonically given the two old ladies.

Remember, Ilia was literally the same age in the Adam trailer.

I get the impression that Cordovin was always a little shrimp, but yeah, RWBY does the anime thing where old age causes some people to just magically lose 2-3 feet in height and turn into stooped-over turtle people.

Which, incidentally, is actually just a comedic exaggeration of something you actually see in old Japanese people, mostly old farmers out in the countryside.

Nah, clearly she used to be a looker. :D

-Flashback to her and Maria still bitterly disliking each other decades ago-

Edit : Then again, isn't Weiss the shortest person in team RWBY?

Maybe some generational nonsense going on here.

Edit Edit : Yep, I checked, Weiss is 5'0''. AKA short AF.

Notice how the tallest people have a little ahoge pointing forward.

Oscar has something like that too.

This clearly means he's short now, but will become TOL.

Summer, you do realize that every wo/man that Church sleeps with ends up an ironically suffering bag of mental and emotional hangups?
