RWBY Thread III: Time To Say Goodbye

Stop: So gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
so gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
We get a lot of reports from this thread. A lot of it is just a series of people yelling at each other over arguments that have been rehashed hundreds of times since the end of the recent Volume. And I get that the last Volume - and RWBY in general, really - has some controversial moments that people will want to discuss, argue about, debate, etc.

That's fine. We're not going to stop people from doing that, because that's literally what the point of the thread is. However, there's just a point where it gets to be a bit too much, and arguments about whether or not Ironwood was morally justified in his actions in the recent Volume, or if RWBY and her team were in the right for withholding information from Ironwood out of distrust, or whatever flavor of argument of the day descend into insulting other posters, expressing a demeaning attitude towards other's opinions, and just being overall unpleasant. That tends to happen a lot in this thread. We want it to stop happening in this thread.

So! As of now the thread is in a higher state of moderation. What that means is that any future infractions will result in a weeklong boot from the thread, and repeated offenders will likely be permanently removed. So please, everyone endeavor to actually respect the other's arguments, and even if you strongly disagree with them please stay civil and mindful when it comes to responding to others.

In addition, users should refrain from talking about off-site users in the thread. Bear in mind that this does not mean that you cannot continue to post tumblr posts, for example, that add onto the discussion in the thread, with the caveat that it's related to RWBY of course. But any objections to offsite users in the thread should be handled via PM, or they'll be treated as thread violations and infracted as such.

While I concede the Junior point, I don't think winking is innately flirtatious, especially given the circumstances it was applied in and the speed at which it all happened.
More flirtatious and cocky if you prefer.
Maybe I chose the wrong term in my initial post, a "big boobed and loosen up blond version of Ryuko" would be a better definition.

They certainly have similar methods for search and rescue/revenge.
Their methods are quite similar indeed (Ryuko mentioned in the first episode that she had beaten up people all around Japan to get a lead on her father's murderer), it's in their attitude that lies the main difference. (although admittedly Yang didn't go through all the shit Ryuko went through)

She might have, or at least some of it ;) Though it is unlikely based on what we've seen but then again Remnant seems somewhat more permissive of violence in general. Honestly up until Yang's reveal I'd always assumed she was either A. adopted possibly right ff the street (fan art piece inspired that one) or B. Abandoned by her mother and eventually found by her dad.

Oh Yang got her share of harsh moments, notably the loss of her step-mother (since IIRC Raven disappeared soon after Yang was born), Tayang's subsequent breakdown (although it's implied he got over it) and her little quest to find her biological mother that almost got her and Ruby killed.
But on the other hand she still had her father with her once he got over his breakdown, her uncle Qrow, and more importantly her little sister Ruby (and Zwei :D ), that makes an odd family (especially with a quirky dad crazy enough to send them their dog through mail tube!) but that's still a family.

In fact in terms of family a fitting comparison between Yang and Ryuko would be when the later was "adopted" by the Mankanshokus, except that Yang got them for all of her life! :D

I do have to wonder how much he's over it by this point, I remember reading at one point that while Ruby's sister Yang apparently served as a sort of "maternal figure" to Ruby so if he's not running at 100% that could be why.

I just wonder who it was that taught her interrogation tactics :D

Hah! That's brilliant XD

Qrow, who else? :D

I just hope that Taiyang and Qrow didn't tried to peep on her when she was changing or taking a shower, that would be really creepy. :o

In light of Ruby's JP VA being revealed...

No idea who this is, apparently a character voiced by Ruby's VA. Name's Saori or something like that.
It's Ruby as Haqua from The World God Only Knows.

So, any news on that official JP dub? Any links?
Since the VA announcement a couple weeks ago? Not much.

This is the official Twitter account: https://twitter.com/rwby_japan

And this is the official website: http://rwby.jp/

You can see the Japanese promo art and read the character bios (if you understand Japanese), but there's not much else. The trailer doesn't have any new audio.

Though it seems whoever registered the domain had a sense of humor:

It's me, or the Japanese promo art have the girls show more skin than in their official 3D models? It's especially visible with Yang's cleavage and Blake's midriff, both more exposed in the Japanese art, or Weiss having her corset cut lower.
And they seem to had made Ruby's chest slightly bigger too.

Dammit Japan!

No, you're definitely not alone.
Ruby: Yeah, they definitely gave her a boob job. Her cape is longer, too.
Weiss: Her skirt seems a bit shorter (though that might be because of the way it's kind of floating upwards) and her hair is much longer (though I think that's just stylistic). And yes, her top is lower cut.
Blake: Yeah, her top exposes more midriff (the single button is located higher up) and her pants are lower on her waist.
Yang: A lot less of her shirt is showing under the jacket and her face is rounder. Doesn't seem like she's exposing more cleavage than usual, though.

Some of it's likely a difference in art styles/honest mistake, some of it's just for style's sake. But yeah, definitely a little bit of "sexification" going on there. Not too blatant though, at least.

Looking at the art though... I don't know, somehow it feels older, like I feel as though I saw it a year or two ago before this was even announced.

Her yellow t-shirt is cut much lower, to the point that you can't see her logo on it anymore, compare with the image below on my post.

Oh there's little doubt that the 3D models won't be changed just for the Japanese version, it's just a little bit of added fanservice for the promo art by the artist (it was made by the character designer for the animes Simoun, Angel Links or Touka Gettan)btw, I just wanted to point it out.

I think it's because this art seems to be partially inspired by the first promotional art of RWBY:

For a moment, I was confused as to who Ruby was talking about, and then I realized it wasn't them talking about others, it was just you analyzing them.

That explains it, thanks. Also am I the only one who feels Weiss shoulders/chest look really weird in the new promotional piece?
It's the posing. Out of all of them, she's posed with a mostly side view like one of the weird "butt and chest" drawings of American Superhero Comics. Ruby, Blake, and Yang are all posed to be seen from the front, Weiss isn't.

I see, that makes sense, thanks it was really throwing me off making everythinb look slightly out of place.

Not really, I think. Maybe a bit, but for the most part the Japanese promo art isn't too far from the original concept art and models:

The art style may be a factor. The details are pretty accurate, though.

Arguably, the way Yang's brown jacket was pulled down in the original concept art puts even more emphasis on her bust.

Weiss does strike a pose in the Japanese promo art, but the Blake in the original concept art is actually the most sideways twisted.
