RWBY Thread III: Time To Say Goodbye

Stop: So gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
so gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
We get a lot of reports from this thread. A lot of it is just a series of people yelling at each other over arguments that have been rehashed hundreds of times since the end of the recent Volume. And I get that the last Volume - and RWBY in general, really - has some controversial moments that people will want to discuss, argue about, debate, etc.

That's fine. We're not going to stop people from doing that, because that's literally what the point of the thread is. However, there's just a point where it gets to be a bit too much, and arguments about whether or not Ironwood was morally justified in his actions in the recent Volume, or if RWBY and her team were in the right for withholding information from Ironwood out of distrust, or whatever flavor of argument of the day descend into insulting other posters, expressing a demeaning attitude towards other's opinions, and just being overall unpleasant. That tends to happen a lot in this thread. We want it to stop happening in this thread.

So! As of now the thread is in a higher state of moderation. What that means is that any future infractions will result in a weeklong boot from the thread, and repeated offenders will likely be permanently removed. So please, everyone endeavor to actually respect the other's arguments, and even if you strongly disagree with them please stay civil and mindful when it comes to responding to others.

In addition, users should refrain from talking about off-site users in the thread. Bear in mind that this does not mean that you cannot continue to post tumblr posts, for example, that add onto the discussion in the thread, with the caveat that it's related to RWBY of course. But any objections to offsite users in the thread should be handled via PM, or they'll be treated as thread violations and infracted as such.

People like Monty definitely have such a strong presence that it feels as if their absence is impossible. Then they're gone and...
I always expected I'd see more of him in the future. I wanted to be able to go to RTX eventually and tell him personally how much I loved his work.
Now that's just not possible.
Exactly, I'm not sure I can even really add to that, I had similar hopes one day as well.

I can never listen to Red Like Roses II ever again without remembering Monty.

And no matter what I do
nothing ever takes the place of you

Edit: I was listening to that song and accidentally closed the tab that was playing it. The song ended so abruptly and unexpectedly... and it's like that. You thought the song would play to completion, but it ended too early.
But unlike music, life has no replay button.

I always wanted to go to a con one day and meet Monty in person, and tell him how much his work inspired me, how much he inspired me. Now I'm never going to get that chance. It just... feels wrong, that all of a sudden he's gone, just like that, from something like allergies.

It happens all the time.
The allergy thing. It's tragic, losing someone like that, and you don't realize it until it happens to someone you respect or care for.

Just out of curiosity, if this was all a big joke, how upset would you get?

I don't mean that the guys at RT are lying or anything, just curious.

That would not be okay.

...However, I would have to recommend everyone shown on the podcast get jobs in Hollywood in that case, because they'd have shown themselves to be amazing actors.

It'd be a stupid sort of funny.

But we're not that lucky I'm afraid.

If Monty was playing one big joke on us, I'd be pissed.
But yes. This is reality, and he's really gone.

To be honest, I rather be upset and have Monty be alive as you can make things up if you're alive, but when you're dead, you really can't do anything. (Disregarding influence.)

god fucking damn it I don't even like rwby because everything but the fights, weapons, and music is rather mediocre but

I like Monty and now I'll never get to see another episode of dead fantasy because monty died from a fucking allergy fuck this shit fuck there will never be more anything EVER not even the videos of him playing that dance dance game thing in an arcade

no more music videos that become hilarious when you find out that monty did the motion capturing himself

Nothing.

It's terrible to hear about Monty's death and my heart goes out to everyone affected by his death especially his family and friends. It sucks being blind sided like that and I hope that everyone recovers soon.

RT posted the tribute video they had at the end of the special podcast separately.

Monty never could stick with one hairstyle, could he?

Also, seeing all that makes me wish I had gotten into his work (and Rooster Teeth's by extension) earlier. I only really got into them when RWBY first premiered.

So apparently there's a New York Times article on his death.

I honestly wished they hadn't even bothered, seemed kinda "Who the fuck is this guy, eh he's popular and we got space to fill.".

Upsetting because it's an uninvested outsider?
I suppose that's a way to put it. Kind of like having a complete stranger give a eulogy at a friend's funeral. They don't really know the guy and they're just there cause someone they know told them to be there. It might be noticeable that they don't really care about the event, which is probably not the best situation to deliver a speech about the deceased.

Speaking of tribute, the Anime Club took some time to watch the 1st episode of RWBY and the Monty Oum tribute video.

Oh and dang did they pick up the roses or did they decide to leave them there?

I'm sure you guys have already talked about this but who else is happy that Adam FINALLY showed up at the end of vol 2?
Also so sad for the lead animator R.I.P Monty Oum

He wasn't just the lead animator, RWBY was his brainchild.

Thankfully his team has the know-how to continue the project, but I doubt they'll be able to find someone of Monty's skills to handle the combat scenes. They'll likely have to hire a few people who specialize in different parts of CGI fight choreography.

Also, they'll have to replace Ren's VA, since Monty was him....
