RWBY Thread III: Time To Say Goodbye

Stop: So gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
so gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
We get a lot of reports from this thread. A lot of it is just a series of people yelling at each other over arguments that have been rehashed hundreds of times since the end of the recent Volume. And I get that the last Volume - and RWBY in general, really - has some controversial moments that people will want to discuss, argue about, debate, etc.

That's fine. We're not going to stop people from doing that, because that's literally what the point of the thread is. However, there's just a point where it gets to be a bit too much, and arguments about whether or not Ironwood was morally justified in his actions in the recent Volume, or if RWBY and her team were in the right for withholding information from Ironwood out of distrust, or whatever flavor of argument of the day descend into insulting other posters, expressing a demeaning attitude towards other's opinions, and just being overall unpleasant. That tends to happen a lot in this thread. We want it to stop happening in this thread.

So! As of now the thread is in a higher state of moderation. What that means is that any future infractions will result in a weeklong boot from the thread, and repeated offenders will likely be permanently removed. So please, everyone endeavor to actually respect the other's arguments, and even if you strongly disagree with them please stay civil and mindful when it comes to responding to others.

In addition, users should refrain from talking about off-site users in the thread. Bear in mind that this does not mean that you cannot continue to post tumblr posts, for example, that add onto the discussion in the thread, with the caveat that it's related to RWBY of course. But any objections to offsite users in the thread should be handled via PM, or they'll be treated as thread violations and infracted as such.

I got less that this line is about humans being rats in a maze and more that it was like an artist who tried something only for the image to turn out warped and distorted. So he's burning the canvas and starting over.
Six of one, half a dozen of the other. End of the day, the gods considered the humans perfectly replaceable.

That is right in line with every god in human history.
Yep and honestly Remnant is probably better off without the Gods forever.

Though I kind of understand why Oz doesn't simply destroy the Relics or set it up so they can never be reunited. The only way for him to stop endlessly reincarnating (that we know of) is for the Gods to come back and the GoL undoes his curse.

There is also wiping out humanity/fauns kind so their is no one to reincarnate into. :V
You're assuming the gods would be that nice. Summoning them for the sole purpose of wiping out humanity so that he doesn't reincarnate any more? Yeah I can't see that ending well.

Though on another note, the whole 'unify humanity requires Salem's removal' doesn't make sense to me. She may have at least some control over the Grimm but taking her out of play won't really do anything. The Grimm will still be a threat and people will still be people.

To quote the TF2 sniper:
"-'cause at the end of the day, long as there's two people left on the planet, someone is gonna want someone dead."

And heck, the way I see things at least 9/10s of the reason Salem stirs the pot/divides humanity/sets them against each other is to spite Ozma. I mean hell, she was perfectly happy raising a family with him and (mostly) had her Black Pool(tm) induced destructive tendances under control. * Then he throws it all away and for what? The directive of a God that cursed her and him to this endless purgatory?

The song Divide is her outlining her unending revenge against the man she would have happily spent eternity with.

*Aside from the whole, let's conquer the planet to spread our message and wipe out others. Though that's not really different then how nearly all of RL countries/nations/religions used to do things.

I don't think there's enough image macros depicting cruel laughter and mockery for this situation. Literally all Ozpin had to say is that he might not have a plan for Salem, but he did at least want to follow through on his reason for being resurrected.

Oh god, I need to tell the RWBY LW thread about this right now.
That thread is dead, has been dead for months, and while Necros are not forbidden it's still a dick move because Laila said she wasn't interested in the show anymore.

You know, I'm glad that characters are getting mad at each other and the chessmaster characters are allowed to have moments of stupidity or vulnerability. It's so much better than everything going according to keikaku or speaking in vague riddles. This season has stuff I've been asking for since ep. 1

That said, I really hope they tone down on all the magic and ancient lore and gods. All of that has always been "homebrew dnd setting" tier boring to me.

I mean, if taking a "not even skinny" dip in a divine pool for a few seconds is enough to make a person completely immortal and impossible to destroy then why would the Relics of the gods be crafted to be weak enough to be destructible at mortal hands?
That's assuming that one can simply 'take a dip' in the GoL's pool to get immortality. I imagine that he controlled the process to an extent.

As for the Relics, just because the Gds likely can create items too strong to be destroyed by mortal hands doesn't mean they did.

Please stop abusing Oscar.
Qrow: I know you needed to punch him, but dude. There's also a kid in there.
RWBY: Oscar tells you Ozpin has retreated to the back of his mind and all you can do is panic and shout at him?!
Maria: Thank fuck someone called them all out on their bullshit.
Qrow tells Ruby not to lie: riiiight, so, just to make sure, you missed when Dadpin looked out the door to see grimm and then got a thumbs-up from actual Dad right? Oscar's always going to be there, the God of Light said it himself, "You'll be immortal, but in a way that ensures you'll never be alone." Oscar may end up the voice in the back of Ozpins head rather than Ozpin the voice in the back of his, but still. Way to be a downer on the kid.

Ozpin doesn't have a plan. Wonderful. Also, what he asked was, "How do I destroy Salem". And got told he can't. Of course he can't, he still loves her, and he doesn't understand how to end her threat. Which, basically, is not destroying her. She's immortal until she learns the importance of the cycle of life and death. Someone should ask her to help them with their life cycle of insects homework or something. Then, then, once she understands, and is no longer immortal, THEN she can be 'defeated'. But on the flip side, she might understand well enough to switch sides? Assuming she even does get taught this stuff. She may be willfully ignorant or something in order to keep her immortality.

I'm still not quite clear on her end goal though: kill the gods? Bring them back out of spite and tell them what a wonderful world they fucked up? rule humanity with an iron fist?

As a side note, that little "*deep breath* let me rephrase the question" was a little bit of... id on't know what to call it, but i just absolutely loved it. That little moment where salem went from evil demigoddess to genuine 'let me start over'. that was just fun.

Abandoned farm time! Yang and Maria's little snip at each other was quite fun. Callback to the 'defenceless old lady' thing. But, given all the shoutouts to 'you're all giving off a lot of negativity', im assuming they're not goign to get much sleep tonight.

fun episode.

This volume does have issues, but overall it is a solid step up in quality compared to the other volumes. 'Course I said the same about v5 but then it shat the bed in the second half of the volume, but hey, we can always hope that doesn't happen again.

One big problem I've had though is with Yang. While everybody else has moved forward in some way, Yang has regressed. She used to be very mature for her age, usually being calm and collected and being someone to talk to. She was a nice departure from what you would assume from her appearance. But now it feels like she is little more than your stereotypical moody teenager, always needing to be angry and bitter at someone and whining. The Yang from volumes 1-3 would never act like this. It's like Miles and Kerry drank the fndm kool-aid and flanderized her character by taking all the "YANGRY" and "Yangst" jokes to heart. Really disappointing for what used to be my favorite character. Taiyang calling her Semblance a "temper tantrum?" Well he must have somehow been looking into the future because that only describes modern Yang, not v1-3 Yang.

My guess is the recent events have proven her Mother(which is something she probably hates to admit) right on several occasions and she is more so angry at herself but is not handling it properly. I am hoping that someone actually calls Yang out on her recent anger trips and she has a hard look at herself.

She once threw a shit fit because she lost three strands of hair. She nearly lost to Neon Katt because Neon was able to keep her off balance with insults, and only lost because she tripped.

Given Qrow punched Oscar I feel like there are other people who should be called out first.

so I guess team rwby are going to give up trying to fight Salem now or atleast for the rest of the volume. I mean since there's no hope in beating Salem I guess their gonna fuck off and do their own thing.

Maybe the final question is "How do we beat Salem?" and that sparks their hope again.
Honestly the about-facing of this fandom is pretty hilarious. First you have a bunch of people praising Jinn for not being a Literal Genie, for understanding the spirit of the question and going above and beyond in answering Ruby's question. Then you have those very same people claim that Oz just "didn't ask the specific right question" as if she was a literal genie once more.

Yeah sure dude whatever. I've already argued this point a dozen times, if you just wanna go on believing that Yang whines about everything then go ahead. Clearly this show has absolutely zero plot holes and is perfect in every way.

That makes Light Guy's objections actually extremely reasonable; when Salem asks for Ozma back, she's asking for something she would get anyhow, just on a different timeframe. She could live her life out, eventually die in a few decades, hardly any time by immortal being standards, and get reunited again. But, instead, she wants him back immediately, and is willing to go pester the fundamental forces of the universe to achieve it.

Imagine if he just told her that.

If she knew that she could just kill herself.

Imagine if one of them just killed her so she'd go there and be reunited
