RWBY Thread III: Time To Say Goodbye

Stop: So gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
so gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
We get a lot of reports from this thread. A lot of it is just a series of people yelling at each other over arguments that have been rehashed hundreds of times since the end of the recent Volume. And I get that the last Volume - and RWBY in general, really - has some controversial moments that people will want to discuss, argue about, debate, etc.

That's fine. We're not going to stop people from doing that, because that's literally what the point of the thread is. However, there's just a point where it gets to be a bit too much, and arguments about whether or not Ironwood was morally justified in his actions in the recent Volume, or if RWBY and her team were in the right for withholding information from Ironwood out of distrust, or whatever flavor of argument of the day descend into insulting other posters, expressing a demeaning attitude towards other's opinions, and just being overall unpleasant. That tends to happen a lot in this thread. We want it to stop happening in this thread.

So! As of now the thread is in a higher state of moderation. What that means is that any future infractions will result in a weeklong boot from the thread, and repeated offenders will likely be permanently removed. So please, everyone endeavor to actually respect the other's arguments, and even if you strongly disagree with them please stay civil and mindful when it comes to responding to others.

In addition, users should refrain from talking about off-site users in the thread. Bear in mind that this does not mean that you cannot continue to post tumblr posts, for example, that add onto the discussion in the thread, with the caveat that it's related to RWBY of course. But any objections to offsite users in the thread should be handled via PM, or they'll be treated as thread violations and infracted as such.

Anyone has a YouTube/uploaded video of the leaks?
I like how everyone is saying "the leaks". Maybe there just weren't any leaks.
It seems a combination of RT pleading with the audience not to record, asking the audience to report anyone they see recording, and suggesting people caught recording might be thrown out of the panel/convention actually worked. Which may not sound surprising, when you put it that way, but it's never deterred leakers in the past.

On the one hand, this ensures exclusives actually stay exclusive and makes sure viewers' first impressions will be the official release and not bad quality cam recordings (see: Jaune's "beard"). On the other hand, I'm not sure RWBY's marketing wouldn't be better served by strategic leaks, and I don't think convention goers would actually be bothered either: they still get to see it first, and in much better quality than any online recordings.

In any case, it is what is is. For reference, the rest of the panel minus the exclusive clips is archived here:

Episode 23 is up and also Manga Chapter 10 is ready to go which is an original adventure that takes place during volume 1 and 2 and has Roman in it.

The first time we see the old man back in his shop and he gets robbed.

And that last one......... explanation was given, yet I can't help but feel there are unanswered questions.

[Discussion] Chibi Season 1, Episode 24
RWBY Chibi:

Villains look so unimpressed.

Ruby thanking everyone is sweet and fun.

Aww, they didn't go the dark route of having it all be some dream of Ruby's while she was traversing the wastes. I'm honestly disappointed, particularly because I'm not much of a fan of that sort of sitcom.

Well I guess that's what you get when you build up a possibility like that in your mind.

Chibi is supposed to be the light-hearted reprieve from the darkness that was the end of Volume 3 and the darkness to come in the next Volume, your scenario would make all of it moot.

Eh, it wouldn't be inherently darker than the "but I saw you die" joke in episode 6.

Get a sponsor on that site so we can get an explanation! Maybe we can finally get an idea of just how big the Kingdom is.
Vale has more cities to the kingdom further west near the coast. Any attempt to expand east got Mountain Glenn'd. This means the kingdoms are not vast cities, but entire regions under the control of several.

Also an official recap of Volumes 1 to 3: RWBY: Volumes 1-3 Recap: The Story So Far

Narrated by Elizabeth Maxwell (VA for Winter) apparently?

Decent summary, though calling Dust a "magical element" is a notable slip-up.
Also barely any mention of the real main characters, Team JNPR, or the main protagonist, Jaune. /jk

Transcript, narrated by Qrow:

EDIT: In case the imgur embed is glitchy,

Well, school's definitely out. But let's see if we can't all learn a little something.

Welcome to the world of Remnant. Not the best place to live, but depending on where you're staying, it can get a little easier.

You've got towns and villages that pop up as fast as they fall.

Faunus have Menagerie.

But the sweet spots are Vale, Mystral, Atlas, and Vacuo. The four kingdoms of the modern era. And each one special in its own little way.

Let's talk about Vale. In the grand scheme of things, Vale's pretty well guarded. Rests on the northeastern end of the world's largest continent, Sannas (sp?). Like most successful kingdoms, Vale's survival over the years can mostly be attributed to prime real estate: its front is protected by steep mountains and its back is against waters too shallow for any real threat to pop out of. Not to say I haven't heard some crazy fish stories.

Aside from the main city which the kingdom's named after, Vale territory also extends to several neighboring cities farther along the northwest coastline as well as a small island named Patch. Nice place to raise a family, if you're into that sort of thing. Of course, all attempts to extend the kingdom's reach past the mountains and farther into the mainland have been colossal failures.

But, like I said, in the grand scheme of things Vale ain't half bad. Regular climate, natural barriers, and some serious border defenses means the citizens of Vale can spend less time worrying about survival and more time just living their lives. Of course, with the fall of Beacon, everyone's a little more worried these days.

And they should be.

So, according to some geographers over on SB, Remnant either rotates the opposite direction as Earth or is upside down by our standards.

Interesting to say the least.
So according to the first image, there was a kingdom in the dragon shaped continent, that seems to have disappeared if the red houses absence in the second image talking about cities falling is any indication.
If each house really represents a city, then mankind lost a lot of territory along the years! :o

Also, while the Faunus have a "nation" of sort at Menagerie, they seems to also have a couple cities in the Mistralian desert (see the yellow houses)

Something that I find weird is that the green houses is supposed to represent the kingdom of Vale, yet they are located at the eastern shores of Sannas, while the city of Vale and all its territories are shown to be on the eastern shores, weird.
I suppose that protecting the convoys traveling between the cities must be one of the most common Hunter jobs.

Finally, that line seems to imply that there are aquatic Grimms, and pretty big ones:
its front is protected by steep mountains and its back is against waters too shallow for any real threat to pop out of. Not to say I haven't heard some crazy fish stories.
So Kraken Grimm when? :D

Well now, that WoR was pretty neat, so we get some small city states, the kingdoms are apparently huge, going over the mountains is a terrible idea and it seems either before or due to the relocation there's a decently sized population of Faunus in Menagerie, but the 'whole' did not care to be forced there leading to the war, but not everyone left once the battles were done. Intriguing! Kinda wish Oobleck had said that his lecture XD

But don't the white bits act as bone? Because on a squid that'd be pretty awkward.

Looks odd as well. Would prefer it look like a large shell with holes in an out

the kingdoms are apparently huge,

Well, their de jure territory is huge, but more likely, for example, the Kingdom of Vale only directly control the stuff within the valley that contains Vale City and Patch Island, and the towns and villages we see past that area represent something that's more a "sphere of influence" than territory actually directly held.

That is a fair point, though if the location Vale was shown to be on the map in that video is more or less where the city is, then it's still pretty incredibly large :)
