RWBY Thread III: Time To Say Goodbye

Stop: So gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
so gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
We get a lot of reports from this thread. A lot of it is just a series of people yelling at each other over arguments that have been rehashed hundreds of times since the end of the recent Volume. And I get that the last Volume - and RWBY in general, really - has some controversial moments that people will want to discuss, argue about, debate, etc.

That's fine. We're not going to stop people from doing that, because that's literally what the point of the thread is. However, there's just a point where it gets to be a bit too much, and arguments about whether or not Ironwood was morally justified in his actions in the recent Volume, or if RWBY and her team were in the right for withholding information from Ironwood out of distrust, or whatever flavor of argument of the day descend into insulting other posters, expressing a demeaning attitude towards other's opinions, and just being overall unpleasant. That tends to happen a lot in this thread. We want it to stop happening in this thread.

So! As of now the thread is in a higher state of moderation. What that means is that any future infractions will result in a weeklong boot from the thread, and repeated offenders will likely be permanently removed. So please, everyone endeavor to actually respect the other's arguments, and even if you strongly disagree with them please stay civil and mindful when it comes to responding to others.

In addition, users should refrain from talking about off-site users in the thread. Bear in mind that this does not mean that you cannot continue to post tumblr posts, for example, that add onto the discussion in the thread, with the caveat that it's related to RWBY of course. But any objections to offsite users in the thread should be handled via PM, or they'll be treated as thread violations and infracted as such.

but at the same time the framing is completely reversed. The perspective is from the future versions, and we know exactly what that dark future is,
That's really fun actually, and I am reminded of one future time travel fic where we see like a flash of the future and Ruby is years older & ROman is still around being a problem but gets one shotted by her, and then she goes on to fight Cinder before time travel & the world is basically ending.

Also this is really fun, I also know the maker, they were my editor for awhile and we are still in the same Discord!

I'm just gonna be snarky and comment that that thumbnail has the slumber party shot of Yang with the word LESBIAN over it and... Yes. :p

Consider:
Qrow was casual with the swears, and now Ruby isn't exactly sure which counts as a swear, and what severity they are.

You know, I have been thinking abut how CRWBY has been saying that they would riot if they had to do Volume 1-3 again and I think that I just realized that RWBY has an interesting bit of "Real Life Writes The Plot" going on, Volume 1-3 have a "Never Stop, Keep Moving Forward" theme going around, which is understandable as "Keep Moving Forward" was Monty's Motto, this would normally be fine except the Monty was a workaholic that died of overwork while working on RWBY and I think that it had an effect that a lot people realize in the maturing of the series themes.

Post V6 one of the series most consisting themes has been the difference between the idea of "Keep Moving Forward" and just "Keep Moving" or the "Do Something" mentality, about 75% of the conflict come from the point where a character in order to do something did the Wrong Thing, it shows with Hazel and Neo, who couldn't do anything to the person that hurt them so they turned that anger toward someone else, it shows with Ozpin, who couldn't admit that he had ran out of ideas and basically kept spining in place, it shows on Ironwood, whose need to do something had mutated into a massive Hero Conplex that wouldn't allow him to let anyone else take the lead and to act even if the correct action was to wait, and finally with Ruby, who just kept finding things to do to avoid dealing with her problems until she ran out of things to do. And I think that is a way to explore Monty's workaholism, which lead to his death and created a toxic work culture that harmed a lot people at RT, to understand when he was moving forward and when he was just moving for the sake of moving.

The other big change has been the show stance on personal sacrifice for "The Cause", at the beguining it had a more uncritically positive look on it but in the latest Volumes it has begun to explore the idea on how much it is justified to hurt ourselves for a cause, because Monty left his health deteriorate for his work and the question if it was worth it will probably hang with everyhting that he did forever.

I don't know if I am reading too much into it or if I am just proyecting but those are my thoughts, what do you guys think?

Nah I think you basically got it.

One way to look at it is that Monty was to the CRWBY what Pyrrha was to Jaune and the others. Monty and Pyrrha were "the best" of their respective groups, and the sudden tragic lost left a whole in both groups and a thought in their mind, "What do we do now?".
So, they took what they were left with, both physical and emotional, and tried to carry on. They "moved forward".
But as things went on, they had to learn, change, and grow without Monty or Pyrrha to fall back on. They had to take their lessons and make them their own.
In time, Monty's belief's have been solidly been implimented into the show. "Keep Moving Forward" is tied to the narrative of people being stuck in the trauma's of the past being unable to move forward just as much as it's tied to Ruby's "Keep going and don't think about the hard things" because they are the same problem from different ends of the spectrum. Monty's quote about how "the human spirit is indomitable" has been shown in both it's good and bad qualities through Salem, Cinder, and Ruby.
In Argus we saw Team JNR stand before Pyrrha's statue and Nora says, "Pyrrha may not be by our side anymore, but we can fight like she is.", and so they chose to continue to stand beside Ruby and the others instead of stepping aside and remaining in Argus. They are going to keep being Huntsmen and Huntresses and see this mission through, one step at a time and watching each other's backs.
Each world lost someone dear, but the story isn't over. Those who remain carry on and write the next page.

Most of your idea seems plausible, but, uh...

Monty didn't die from overwork, though? IIRC, he had an allergic reaction to something.
