RWBY Thread III: Time To Say Goodbye

Stop: So gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
so gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
We get a lot of reports from this thread. A lot of it is just a series of people yelling at each other over arguments that have been rehashed hundreds of times since the end of the recent Volume. And I get that the last Volume - and RWBY in general, really - has some controversial moments that people will want to discuss, argue about, debate, etc.

That's fine. We're not going to stop people from doing that, because that's literally what the point of the thread is. However, there's just a point where it gets to be a bit too much, and arguments about whether or not Ironwood was morally justified in his actions in the recent Volume, or if RWBY and her team were in the right for withholding information from Ironwood out of distrust, or whatever flavor of argument of the day descend into insulting other posters, expressing a demeaning attitude towards other's opinions, and just being overall unpleasant. That tends to happen a lot in this thread. We want it to stop happening in this thread.

So! As of now the thread is in a higher state of moderation. What that means is that any future infractions will result in a weeklong boot from the thread, and repeated offenders will likely be permanently removed. So please, everyone endeavor to actually respect the other's arguments, and even if you strongly disagree with them please stay civil and mindful when it comes to responding to others.

In addition, users should refrain from talking about off-site users in the thread. Bear in mind that this does not mean that you cannot continue to post tumblr posts, for example, that add onto the discussion in the thread, with the caveat that it's related to RWBY of course. But any objections to offsite users in the thread should be handled via PM, or they'll be treated as thread violations and infracted as such.

Honestly, could we not talk about RWDE and rwby critics so much? Like I genuinely feel exhausted sometimes coming into this thread and seeing more of their nonsense, and the arguments that spawn from it.
There's a weird perpetual irony in how often some RWBY stans are so violently, passionately and inately against critics being allowed to be left alone in their space and how sad it is that RWBY critics are "obsessed" with the show, only to then spend hours of their days following their content and posting takes/encouraging harassment about it, when in all actuality all that does is spread awareness of the critic. They're basically serving as free advertising for the critics they loathe and wish to deplatform so much.

Like damn fam I've seen tsunderes less dedicated to their bakas than RWBY stans and critics. Especially because at some point it does just feel like the people who post Tumblr stuff wholesale are looking to cause some people to harass the critic. At some point it just gets really pathetic how obsessive people can be.

The answer's actually really simple:

There's nothing else to talk about.

Worm critics and fans can be similar. Many of the Worm critics have operated in bad faith to nth point the fandom gets defensive.

Welcome to the wonderful world of the hiatus where the flame wars increase because people have nothing better to do but to pick fights.

Me: I'm tired of talking about RWDE, let's talk about something else, like this thing.

You: Let's talk more about RWDE.

Really dude?

Time To Ramble
ok so, I follow a well done DC/RWBY fanfiction called "Hunters of Justice" where Brainiac attacked and "preserved" Remnant but RWBYJNPR and before that Salem had slipped through his grasp. RWBYJNPR have been on DC Earth since while Salem has been MIA. Recently people on the thread have begun to talk about what Brainiac would of done had he managed to capture Salem and if he could "reverse engineer" her immortality and eventually got to talk about Salem's DNA, and then someone makes this comment.

"I mean she should still have it since she had children post Grimm pool. So its not like she is incapable of passing down her DNA. Also, believing that Brainiac can replicate it depends on where you think her immortality is centered in. If its just her body, then maybe I could see it. But if its her soul that is immortal, then I don't think studying her DNA would achieve anything.

Now this got me thinking. Salem and Oz are both cursed. Oz is cursed to have his soul go from body to body. Salem is cursed in a way that he body reforms as if there was no damage. In short, both souls are barred from the plain of the after life, and as such both souls return to the mortal plain in accordance with their curse.
But here is the thing, in a way we saw this with Penny. Ambrosious could not "kill" her, so her soul needed to remain on the mortal plain, and as such the loophole worked and Penny got her flesh and blood body (and then got shanked by Cinder).

So! I regularly skip multiple pages of this thread because I cannot be arsed to give a shit about the fandom/hatedom sniping back and forth. What I do know, is that I really hope someone makes an AMV for Don't Look Up using The Sky is Falling as its backing track.

But that wasn't talking about RWDE. It was talking about people talking about RWDE, much like this is me talking about people talking about talking about RWDE. :V

Given her kids all died, we saw Oz disappeared her body at least once in their first fight, the personality change from the Pool of Darkness, and what we know of the Brothers (creators of humanity, givers of magic, ect.) I'm inclined to say it's her soul that was changed.

So, the idea of a RWBY fighting Game has frequently been tossed around. My question is, how do you think the different characters would play? Which archetypes do you think they would call into?

For those unfamiliar with the general archetypes of Fighting Games, I will provide a video and then a briefer summary that explains them.

All-Rounder/Shoto- A jack of all trades character like Ryu. They can do a little bit of everything, but not as well as the more dedicated characters.

Grappler: Grapplers are generally big and slow characters whose gameplan is to get up close with the opponent. Typically, a Grappler only has to get close one, because the damage their close range moves do is meaty enough that it should finish things off then

Rushdown: Rushdown characters, like Grapplers, are designed to get in close to the foe, but unlike Grapplers, they're more speed oriented than Power oriented, so they are expected to have to close the distance many times rather than just once.

Zoners: Zoners use long ranged attacks to either keep the foes from closing the gap, or make them take risky options to close the gap in order to punish them.

Generally speaking, Zoners beat Grapplers, Grapplers beat Rushdowns, and Rushdowns beat Zoners. However, their are a few other archetypes that exist outside that triangle.

Stance characters are characters that can switch between two movesets mid battle.

Puppet Characters summon a secondary fighter that it controlled at the same time as the main character

Set play characters have options for every scenario, but in order to use them, they must first take the time to set them up.

A Gimmick Character is a character whose moveset breaks the universal rules of the game in some way.

I guess there goes all the likes you put on my posts?: )
Oh a lot of times you had a point, this just isn't one of them.

Huh, so Salem's healing might be because of how not dying works? Like people die when their body goes kaput, but if they can't die the body can't fail either so they heal automatically?

And now I'm talking about people that are talking about people talking about RWDE...
Let's talk about something else.

Well we already have something of a glimpse of this with Cross Tag Battle.

Speaking of games, I get that it's too much to ask this early in the year but I am just sitting here trembling in anticipation for more news about Arrowfell. Any news would be welcome at this point.

I've played a lot of Shantae stuff and really liked it so I'm looking forward to experiencing WayForward's take on RWBY. And I'm curious if we might see more of the Happy Huntresses and the Mantle/Atlas divide.

And if we could just get a tiny cameo from Ciel and get to know a bit more about Team FNKI that would be swell. I'd be fine with them just appearing as talking sprites. Guess it depends on where the plot is going.

Did they make it to Vacuo, or are they all dead now?

Shoto - Ruby.

Grappler - Yang

Rushdown - Blake, Beacon Weiss

Puppeteer - Post Beacon Weiss

I'd actually play up Yang as a Stance fighter; the open, unguarded stance to build up "Burn Points" and then an extremely fast and brutal stance when her meter's full, imitating how she used her Semblance on Adam.

I'd say Ruby should be rushdown, since she's got the bursts of superspeed and all. Ren could be a stance fighter, since he's used moves that seem derived from at least baguaquan, taijiquan, and wing chun.

A complicating factor is that almost everyone in RWBY has ranged attacks and transforming weapons, so arguably several of them could also be considered zoners and/or stance fighters. Nora, for instance, could easily be a "grappler" who pounds you with a hammer for massive damage, then at range switches to launching grenades at you.

Pyrrha should be the really busted character who's banned at tournaments.
