RWBY Thread III: Time To Say Goodbye

Stop: So gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
so gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
We get a lot of reports from this thread. A lot of it is just a series of people yelling at each other over arguments that have been rehashed hundreds of times since the end of the recent Volume. And I get that the last Volume - and RWBY in general, really - has some controversial moments that people will want to discuss, argue about, debate, etc.

That's fine. We're not going to stop people from doing that, because that's literally what the point of the thread is. However, there's just a point where it gets to be a bit too much, and arguments about whether or not Ironwood was morally justified in his actions in the recent Volume, or if RWBY and her team were in the right for withholding information from Ironwood out of distrust, or whatever flavor of argument of the day descend into insulting other posters, expressing a demeaning attitude towards other's opinions, and just being overall unpleasant. That tends to happen a lot in this thread. We want it to stop happening in this thread.

So! As of now the thread is in a higher state of moderation. What that means is that any future infractions will result in a weeklong boot from the thread, and repeated offenders will likely be permanently removed. So please, everyone endeavor to actually respect the other's arguments, and even if you strongly disagree with them please stay civil and mindful when it comes to responding to others.

In addition, users should refrain from talking about off-site users in the thread. Bear in mind that this does not mean that you cannot continue to post tumblr posts, for example, that add onto the discussion in the thread, with the caveat that it's related to RWBY of course. But any objections to offsite users in the thread should be handled via PM, or they'll be treated as thread violations and infracted as such.

Not really the point here Matrix Dragon. The point is that Ozpin talks up a good game about choice and does some good stuff in that front but is also kinda hypocritical about it, hence why he needed to be called out and go away for awhile.

I never said Ozpin didn't have reason to be sad, however that doesn't change the fact that he was lying to and manipulating them into a war under the pretense he had a plan and a way to win when really he had no idea what he was doing beyond desperately stalling for time and thus was having people make "Choices" under false pretenses and also making choices for them by being the only one to dictate how the battle with Salem was handled.

Again, there are only two ways this ends, Spring forced against her will to work for Ozpin, or Spring dead. Also no mention of "protection" ever came into it.

And no mention of forcing Spring back into the fight was brought up either in the show, so your headcannon is as good as mine.

The only resolution that makes sense with his "Raid the bandits" plan would be forcing her into his service or killing her.

So he was planning to see justice done to a mass murder and at the same time ensure that Salem didn't get what she wanted? After all Raven had used her to level a village at least once, so I don't see what choice Raven had left him with.

Fair point on the headcanon but given the fact the plan was to go in swinging I feel like I actually have a basis for my own stance while yours relies on Ozpin and co planning a raid and then suddenly switching to diplomacy they have no reason to think will work.

My basis is on how Ozpin had acted up to v5.
Usually remaining calm, people deferring to his calls, and had talked about how he gave the twins a choice and seemed to have no ill will to Raven.
So on personality and past actions even if they ended up "going in swinging" I don't think Oz would force Spring back. If anything he'd want to speak to Spring and Raven, even if Raven wants nothing to do with him. And from there Oz would at the least leave them with a warning of "Salem is coming so be careful" or something.
Despite the lies, broken trust, hurt feelings, and a chunk of the fandom deeming Oz evil and other similar terms, I just can't bring myself to hate or distrust him. He might not give me full info, but I am more sure of my safety listening to him over say Ironwood. I can confidently say I could talk back to Ozpin and not get my licence revoked at least or shot/stabbed at worst.

Pretty sure he implied Raven was a shameful coward for leaving after agreeing to join the war even though she only joined under false pretenses.
Again, the plan was to raid the camp.
I'm not asking you to hate or distrust him, I'm just highlighting I feel he isn't a beacon of free will and fair choices seems to

Since when do I let a little thing like that stop me from making fun of Raven? :)

I mean she is she plays her self off as big and bad but she's a coward. A bully that would rather attack people weaker than her than chance fighting someone who can fight back
Again, not the point, the point is that Ozpin's view is its "fine" to not join the battle, but if you join it then leave you're a coward even if you joined under false pretenses and manipulation from a trust authority figure.

RWBY HC: Combat Schools and 'Washing Out'… (Possible book spoilers)

You know I find it kinda funny we don't know much about the lore of Vale compared to the the other three kingdoms. Wonder if we have a closer look in the future via series or other lore material.

Looks like well be getting something on v8 this coming Saturday at SDCC. (1 PM PDT)

I think a distinction needs to be made
What did CRWBY and Meyer's want out of this book? What was their goal?
VS
What did we the audience want/expect?

Also, since Scarlet is based not only on Peter Pan, but Peter In Scarlet, I am curious as to why people are surprised/put off by Scarlet being a shit. And for Sage, I thought not even Miles&Kerry remember what the inspiration of the character exactly was.

Well presumably we all expected Team SSSN as a whole to be relevant to the volume and get roughly equal screen time and development as Team CFVY. Since they were all right there on the cover of the book. Side by side with and taking equal space as the previous books protagonists Team CFVY.
