RWBY Thread III: Time To Say Goodbye

Stop: So gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
so gotta few things that need to be said real quick.
We get a lot of reports from this thread. A lot of it is just a series of people yelling at each other over arguments that have been rehashed hundreds of times since the end of the recent Volume. And I get that the last Volume - and RWBY in general, really - has some controversial moments that people will want to discuss, argue about, debate, etc.

That's fine. We're not going to stop people from doing that, because that's literally what the point of the thread is. However, there's just a point where it gets to be a bit too much, and arguments about whether or not Ironwood was morally justified in his actions in the recent Volume, or if RWBY and her team were in the right for withholding information from Ironwood out of distrust, or whatever flavor of argument of the day descend into insulting other posters, expressing a demeaning attitude towards other's opinions, and just being overall unpleasant. That tends to happen a lot in this thread. We want it to stop happening in this thread.

So! As of now the thread is in a higher state of moderation. What that means is that any future infractions will result in a weeklong boot from the thread, and repeated offenders will likely be permanently removed. So please, everyone endeavor to actually respect the other's arguments, and even if you strongly disagree with them please stay civil and mindful when it comes to responding to others.

In addition, users should refrain from talking about off-site users in the thread. Bear in mind that this does not mean that you cannot continue to post tumblr posts, for example, that add onto the discussion in the thread, with the caveat that it's related to RWBY of course. But any objections to offsite users in the thread should be handled via PM, or they'll be treated as thread violations and infracted as such.

So I looked at the RWBY Reddit and boy people are really kind focused on Ruby slicing off the tail thing. It's funny though the few people arguing it's sort of racist confuse me because like. Ruby is definitely the kind of person who would slice off an arm in a fight.

Said it before, say it again. If Tyrian wanted to keep all his limbs, he shouldn't injure people Ruby cares about in range of her scythe. Honestly, he's lucky his head was out of her range.

Honestly its quite cathartic to see an outrage monger's intentionally bad take get an appropriate amount of mockery for once.
Though it's kinda odd that a year or two old bad take that is relatively minor in that video got dragged up right around the time they released a video discussing in detail the downfall of RWBY...

Almost like people wanted to distract from the points Critter wanted to make with that video by bringing up year old quips. Pretty sure there's a fallacy for that.

Or maybe the self-proclaimed RWDE posters aren't being controlled and they are their usual selves willing to die on any given hill that they think will make the main cast look bad.

Rule 3: Be Civil, or, "Calling an entire fandom of people what amounts to a 'bigoted misogynist' really isn't civil."

Oh, I just thought the whole tail thing was a deliberate move to let a bunch of RWBY stans pick on a woman because they can't actually argue with the newer video- hence, dig up some years old crappy take and use that instead to discredit her. Critter's been getting harassment from the stan community for years at this point, so this is nothing new- it's just the same shit wearing a scorpion-colored coat with a side flavor of misogny.

Though what do you expect from the RWBY fandom at this point? They were born from a dudebro company in Rooster Teeth and one that's long to this day had issues with women and criticism- no wonder any time a woman criticises the show they have to deal with asinine sociopaths looking for a free chance to punch down on someone because the RWBY fandom at large does give the impression of "We will look the other way when you attack minorities as long as those minorities are critics." There's always been a vicious undercurrent of bigotry whenever a minority or woman criticises the show that's been easily going back to Volumes 4/5, and it's been a non-stop fever pitch since Volume 6 and the attempted collective fandom gaslighting over Adam criticism- but that's not a topic for today.

Or maybe the self-proclaimed RWDE posters aren't being controlled and they are their usual selves willing to die on any given hill that they think will make the main cast look bad.
Literally no one except Critter has ever opined seriously that Ruby was in the wrong for maiming Tyrian, and even the RWBYCritics subreddit bluntly said it was a shit take then, alongside now when it resurfaced.

Probably because the first three volumes are the best, four and five come off as little more than random faffing about, and six+ have fully rejected the unique aspects of the world of remnant for MOAR magic.

Especially once it began shifting away from the characters and more towards a generic "save the world" narrative.

As much as we are tired of these things using Beacon Era, I at least feel that it's a reasonable place to jump from.
When using Beacon Era the writers are a bit more free as all the kids had to really worry about were classes and whatever Roman might be scheming. But Post-Fall and more so Post-Secret Reveals of any kind and now you have a cast with the weight of the world hanging on them on top of navigating whatever new situation the writer puts them in.
If say you have RWBY during Beacon suddenly getting their world rocked by either getting yeeted into another world or having a weird adventure with a 3rd party they are free to grow and slowly get to know the new things. But if this happens after they learn about Salem and all the other stuff then they'd worry if this might be part of her schemes or worry about getting home as soon as possible and forgetting to slow down, rest, and take true stock of the situation around them.

Oh I definitely get why, it just bothers me at the same time, even if it makes a good degree of sense in terms of keeping the focus where it needs to be and the team united.

honestly, I think I have only come across ONE fanfic where the point of contact is not during the Beacon Era NOR due to the Fall from The Bridge.
it's a crossover with Kamen Rider Zi-O and the start point is a few days after the Battle for Haven, so between V5 and V6, and Ruby gets kidnapped and chucked into Tokyo.

now as for where the comic's point could be....honestly it's anyone's guess.
heck for all we know this could take place in the aftermath of the Argus Unlimited Crash and the whole adventure is just some dream. maybe Ruby got high again.
