OMAKE: Where Things Go Terribly Terribly ~Right~ Wrong
OMAKE: Where Things Go Terribly Terribly Right Wrong

A second later, to his utter horror, Hazō felt Ami's hand settle on his chest.

"Hmm, no, that's not it."

Her face was close enough to kiss. "Maybe if I searched in more---"

Hazō nearly pushed her away out of instinct, before stopping himself at the last second. He would not fall for her tricks; he has the RESOLVE to preserve.

He couldn't afford to lose (and not just because Kei would kill him). With Ami's help, he could restore his clan's finances. He could finally pay the Nara back. He could invest in---

Hazō shook his head, his nose brushing against a few brands of Ami's hair. Unfortunately, this only served to distract him even more.

Oh god. She was so close he could literally smell her breath.

Hazō needed to get out of here before she wore down the last dregs of his sanity. He couldn't push her away, that was what she wanted him to do. If he pushed forward, he would knock down the tower (or worse, he would accidentally touch her chest).

But what if she knew I would think this and the tower is really behind me?

Ami's hand was slowly trailing increasingly lower on his chest, sending him dangerously close to death-by-Kei. Hazō was running out of time. Without further thinking, he took a leap and dove away from the dangerous beast sprawled right in front of him, diving neither forward nor backward but rather to his left.

Unbeknownst to Hazō, his left crutch was buried under Ami's legs, no doubt to make sure his only escape from Ami was to physically push her away. If he had dove forward, he would have sent them both crashing into the tower. If he dove back, the crutch would have stopped him after only a foot or two and she could easily resume her escalating provocations.

What Ami did not account for was Hazō diving to the left. Instead of stopping him short, his buried crutch acted as a pivot, redirecting his momentum and turning his linear path away from Ami into a circular arc that sent him around her and crashing headfirst into the Tower.

There was a moment of silence from both of them. Slowly, he lowered his blindfold and was greeted by a look of utter incredulousness on Ami's face, as if she could not believe he had somehow managed to snatch defeat instead of the draw she had set up.

The moment stretched on; Hazō unable to savor the rare sight of Ami openly displaying an emotion, so bound by the terror of what he had just done.

An eternity passed and Ami burst out laughing, a manic grin spreading over her face.

"Let's go tell Kei the good news!"

To be continued…?

Alright I give up, I can only think of one FOOM path for Kei that doesn't play havoc with my ability to model it:

I'll go add this to the main post linked in my sig, and just in case something else comes up I'll keep the old ones around. But tl;dr it's smooth sailing to Resolve capstone for Kei.

"I'll be looking forward to our first date."

To be continued…?
Nice.

Two things:

1) This needs a title.

2) Per Word of Ami, this would be far from their first date. She described their initial meetings in Mist as dates, and earlier in this same update, she tells Hazō they're well past their fifth.

@Velorien, does this still stand? More importantly, does the central idea of the plan below sound like fun?
Yes. This plan does sound like it could potentially be fun, in an evil kind of way (which in itself is a way of saying it would be fun).

@Velorien, do you have any questions/comments/concerns about this plan? I know it's wordy as all hell, and I'll work to shave it down tomorrow (right now, it's rather late)... But is there anything else?
Not at this moment in time. The obvious success and failure modes are both very promising. I'll take another look when it's in a more complete form.

Formatting weird cuz I did it on mobile, i'll fix later

[X] Crime and Punishment
Word Count: 200ish

Haru
  • Prep with Akane/Mari and speak with him, with Akane present.
  • What has his time taught him?
  • Haru felt justified killing Yakuza because they used power over civilians to harm them. How is what Haru did to them any different? Would Hazou be justified in killing Haru? Not legally, but morally?
  • Hazou doesn't think so. Haru operated under a framework he believed right. He is a product of his environment as most people are. Recognizing the humanity even in your enemies is Uplift. Even necessary or justified deaths should feel like a failure, not a solution.
  • Haru is going to meet with the families of each person he killed and talk to them, apologize, etc.
Yuno
  • Cordially request she join training with your group
  • Practice your social and impersonation skills with a TTRPG!
  • Invite Noburi, Akane, and Ino, make it a double.5 date
  • Don't condemn her aggression, but give her the opportunity to experience validation from things other than violence
Mari
  • Ami (probably) wrecked Hazou's tower game. Please replace it and leave a note telling her not to touch Hazou's tower without clan permission. If she needs access, she can ask for assistance.
Other (offscreen)
  • Help Kagome finish dimensionalism seals (give him bonuses to his rolls).
  • Get Asuma's okay, ask Noburi to begin training Akane to summon
  • Timeskip to when HOWS need replacing.

Did we ever find out the outcome of giving Asuma the ninja wire netting idea that Jiraiya liked? I know that it happened offscreen, I just can't recall if there was an announcement regarding Asuma's response.
Asuma liked the idea and key Leaf locations have had nets put over them.

Will vote for time skips or teaching summoning to other members of uplift
Note that teaching summoning is very time intensive. Hazō or any other summoner can indeed teach summoning, although usually only summoners who have been doing it for a few years do it -- same way that a novice computer programmer can teach programming in a pinch but it's better to find a more experienced person.

On the other hand, it's a full time thing for about three months for the student, and at least three hours a day for the teacher, and it needs to be one-on-one. If Hazō's is teaching someone Summoning three hours a day in addition to the 2-3 hours he's spending with Harumitsu, that will sharply limit what he can do elsewhere. Certainly no scroll hunts.

Awesome we should totally have Noburi teach Kagome or Akane summoning since he currently isn't assigned any huge projects

Has time skip so will vote. Would you consider having Noburi start summoner training for Kagome/Akane?

Hazou should really use the Iron Nerve to convey absolute fascination and imbuement with her, at which point she'll naturally lose interest and that's one less plate he needs to keep spinning.

[X] Crime and Punishment

Can you add a line to the effect of "ask Ami if she enjoyed the hairbraid?" It'd serve as a subtle "did you find the hidden meaning" to further tease/prank Ami. I'll vote for the plan either way, but it was just an errant idea.
Pshhh that's too obvious, she'll be disappointed if we give her a hint

I expect Kagome will be going to isan within the next month for the Yoshida deal, so he can have Takahashi teach him. Akane though sure, if it isn't treason or whatever

This. Her natural response to any attempt to condescend will be a convoluted and painful reminder that it is unnecessary because she is a once-in-a-century genius trained from birth by another once-in-a-century genius and operating within her wheelhouse on the matter.

The Forest of Death is one such area just on the other side of the wall, where they frequently dump large amounts of food scraps in order to attract chakra beasts.
Question. Presumably we haven't been dumping very many food scraps into the Forest of Death during the famine, which lasted for a decent amount of time. Has there been any observable impact on the population of chakra beasts?
