Everyone went there immediately, I see.
we were primed by Paper's own post, which was a ruling with the express intent to thwart legalistic challenges about edge cases but was itself very open to legalistic challenges about edge cases. If the goal is "avoid litigation about Hazo's inter-planar carrying capacity" then tying the decision to some sort of mechanic makes the most sense. Physical stats invite the kind of gamesmanship that Paper + players have already engaged in, and also doesn't make a ton of sense when Summoning is one of the most blatant examples of ninja punching-magic in the entire quest. That's why it makes sense to use one of the mental stats.

I think it is most reasonable to say that carrying capacity during summoning, reverse summoning, and unsummoning are a function of the Summoner's focus and mental discipline in keeping track of their various belongings as they traverse the higher-dimensional barriers. That's why Hazo, whose Resolve is 63--

Research for ch692: Kagome's Tears Rune, Unchained Superchiller
Noburi's Pain Suppression turns Hazō's Moderate Consequence to a Mild for the purposes of calculating penalties on Prime. As mentioned in the jutsu spec, SCs can't be effectively treated with Pain Suppression. Needless to say, chakra-intense activities like SC, rune shaping, and rune infusion will be nullifying Hazō's natural-healing bonus for this injury to his chakra coils.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The current spec for the Superchiller rune calls for an AOE of 1 zone and a duration of 10 minutes. This is both smaller and shorter than any rune Hazō has ever researched. He is aware that he is on a tight timeline with Akatsuki and Orochimaru's ultimatum. Therefore, he researches a version of Superchiller with the size and duration set to "whatever seems easiest", like he did with the Unchained Time Runes. He expects that the greater difficulty and complexity of the harshly constrained version from the spec would make it much slower to research, probably 2x longer or more.

If you vote in another research plan on Superchillers, you may include a line to the effect of:
  • Transfer Unchained Superchiller progress to Superchiller.

This will let Hazō transfer 50% of the progress he made on the Unchained Superchiller to the regular Superchiller.

Research Unchained Superchillers:

Hazō (Earthshaping): 50 - 6 (timeladder down) - 3 (Mild Consequence) - 3 = 38
Hazō (Primordial Sealing): 32 + 21 (crossover bonus from Mild Consequence-penalty'd, DoB-boosted Sealing) + 12 (Disciple of the Beyond) - 3 (Mild Consequence) - 3 = 59

Hazō thinks he's over halfway done with this rune. There has been no superstorm yet.

Research Kagome's Tears Rune:

Hazō (Earthshaping): 50 - 6 (timeladder down) - 6 (Moderate Consequence) - 3 = 35
Hazō (Primordial Sealing): 32 + 20 (crossover bonus from Moderate Consequence-penalty'd, DoB-boosted Sealing) + 12 (Disciple of the Beyond) - 5 (Moderate Consequence) - 12 = 47
Hazou spends a FP to reroll!
Hazō (Primordial Sealing): 32 + 20 (crossover bonus from Moderate Consequence-penalty'd, DoB-boosted Sealing) + 12 (Disciple of the Beyond) - 5 (Moderate Consequence) + 3 = 62

Phew, he might have gotten close to a runic failure there, between the -12 and the Consequence penalty! Hazō thinks he's a little under a fifth of the way there.

Aside: Hazōpilot thinks this rune's name might offend Kagome-sensei…
Rune research has been added into Chapter 692.

Hm. So we get about halfway done in one research cycle, with no invokes and a -3 on the dice.

Transferring the progress would leave us with another 2 research cycles, maybe 3 if the dice are bad.

Should we delay seeing Orochimaru until we finish the Constrained Superchiller research? Or maybe just do the Unchained Superchillers and sprint to Orochimaru, hoping he hasn't left yet?

Orochimaru was vague about "reasonable time delays."

Also, I'm writing this weekend, as @eaglejarl will be enjoying an enviable second Thanksgiving (meanwhile, in the UK, I didn't even get a first...). Banner should be up, and to give you more time to plan, I've changed the voting close to 10am UK time on Sunday.

@Paperclipped @Velorien @eaglejarl

I would like for Hazō to leave a cache of written guides and runic blanks with Cannai that would be enough reference material to allow someone to rediscover the art without a teacher.

This is NOT intended to be used as a Deadman's switch and would stay in Dog under Cannai's protection. The idea of this is to leave a secure backup in case Hazō dies that Kagome could travel to and eventually learn the skill from.

If this is voted into a plan, would Hazōpilot reject it?

Hazō is completely unwilling to leave Runecraft reference material with Cannai. Not just as a deadman's switch, but at all. He would be unwilling to even leave it there under Cannai's oath to guard it while Kagome makes the journey to learn it himself, in the event that Hazo dies.

Is that correct?
Correct. Hazoupilot thinks that there would be a substantial risk to everything he (and Kagome) cares about if Kagome were forced to learn runecrafting entirely from written notes. Perhaps Kagome could do it, but as a student of Kagome's safety-centric sealing school, this is unacceptable to him.

Ah, apologies. I posted that earlier before I was ready and edited my question substantially. One big difference is that I clarified there would also be a large supply of runic blanks to learn from.

Would that addition be enough to serve as reference material (in addition to the infused HOWR and Runic Mount that he could study in Arachnid)?

Players: "Quick, we can munchkin this!"

Kagome continues to be awesome, and inspiring a whole school of safety-inclined, PPE-wearing sealing students.

Kagome is a dear, and I love him so.

Meanwhile, I'm over here wondering how we can leverage this ruling to progress the Snowflake X Hazou ship 🤔

@Paperclipped @Velorien @eaglejarl apologies for the reping! I just wanted to make sure that you saw the updated version.

Obviously, I'm not expecting an immediate answer (I was shocked by the two minute turnaround on the original post—I didn't even finish my writing!) but it would be great if you would leave a like or something on this post to signal that you saw it.

[X] Action Plan: Sunrise, Sunset
Word Count: <399 (to be <299)
Desired Duration: A few days
  • Sanity check all with the rest of the team
  • Try to summon Cannai, if we can be healed by the time we contact Oro.
  • Travel to Orochimaru
    • Set up at the edge of SC range, under cover and concealment, use SCSA/SSSA, Ninja Radar etc. be ready to leave quickly if things don't go well.
  • Meet with Orochimaru
    • Send just Mari and Hazou, both as SCs.
  • Discuss the Riftwar
    • Tone: cooperating on a mutually beneficial goal. Cover all the points, but be concise and don't extend the conversation unnecessarily.
    • We have the runic-scale defenses to protect Leaf and secure their help in the Riftwar.
      • If he doesn't believe that Leaf will help, disclose Naruto's secret orders.
    • We've been on a news blackout, what's the update on the general situation?
    • Outline our capabilities: Air Leadening, Icarus, Force Dome, Iron Earth, Remote Explosive 1.0/2.0, Ninja Radar, and the Vampiric Dew Bloodline.
      • Do NOT mention TRs, mention Rift Runes only if pressed.
    • Suggested attack plan: Trap them inside Force Dome+Iron Earth, then open with a Multi-RER barrage, under a max-range Air Leadener with subsequent shots to pick off slowed essies, followed by Essieclone/Boss Rush for any survivors.
      • That said, preparing a full-scale RER barrage will take a lot of time, substrate, and chakra.
        • How likely is it we'd get 4+ hours within 2 miles of their fortress?
        • Do you have a trick for moving massive rune blanks from the 7th path?
    • Has Leaf been linked in yet? They provide 2 additional S-Rank fighters, several Summoners who can potentially Summon Clan Bosses and abundant chakra for runes, summons and essieclones.
      • Be alert for his answer, and Mari attempts to tell if he is deceiving us.
      • When do you plan to strike?
      • Does he have any idea which (if any) Akatsuki members are on site? Numbers of other forces?

Hm. I'm not an expert on sealmaster traditions, but I think changing the name is probably allowed as long as we do it before the research is complete...

The Dragon parts are very clearly not ordinary matter -- in fact, it was explicitly noted by Orochimaru that they had some sort of exotic composition that reacted in a hostile way with regular matter. For whatever reason, despite being heavier than Hazou would normally be able to unsummon with, Hazou was somehow able to reverse summon with the largest Dragon scale.

Strange that he would try that, as a trained summoner who should have known not to expect it to work. Still, there's only so smooth a retcon can get and this is not unreasonable overall.

In the interest of pulling back the curtain here: Saying that a summoner can move as much as they can lift gets very thorny very fast. Even setting Hazou's chakra-boosted deadlift weight could come back to bite us in a dozen ways. Now, imagine if industrious players consider things like:
  • Getting equipment to let Hazou lift more, using abundant real-world knowledge about powerlifting.
  • Having others load a weight onto Hazou's back that he couldn't lift on his own, but can support for a bit.
  • Falling while holding onto a larger weight than you can hold -- you're both clearly connected and distinct from the rest of the world, in a "chakra's PoV" sense.

There's also the option of ruling that it's a fixed quantity which happens to be similar enough to Hazō's weight or deadlift capacity that he used that as a point of reference.

Alternately:
[X] research (no-prep DoB) a seal that can shrink a stone it's attached to to 1/4th scale for up to 10min.

Not sure if reverse-summoning with an active seal effect is OK. Although we've seen bringing storage seals to the seventh path is fine* so that's evidence in favor
* well, contributes to the degradation of the Runic Mount, but doesn't, like, kill you or cause you to fall into the Out

Consequently, Hazou can transport up to 25-point blanks across the Paths. This covers everything he's researched except the largest size RER and RER 2.0.

So that's the worst news we've had in a while. Half-strength RERs only hit TN 108 even with a full barrage of 6 targeting the same zone, which I would expect any Akatsuki member to dodge, albeit they'd likely need to spend resources on it.
