So that's the worst news we've had in a while. Half-strength RERs only hit TN 108 even with a full barrage of 6 targeting the same zone, which I would expect any Akatsuki member to dodge, albeit they'd likely need to spend resources on it.
Yup, but they'll do OK for destroying the Akatsuki fortress and forcing them out of their prepared grounds.

Then hit 'em with 20 Orochimaru, 20 Tsunade, fourscore of Naruto, plus Katsuyu, Manda, Enma, Conjura, and possibly even Cannai and Gamabutna as a treat.

It's fine, we still got this.

Hm. I'm not an expert on sealmaster traditions, but I think changing the name is probably allowed as long as we do it before the research is complete...
The core of the tradition is that the right to name the seal/rune belongs to the sealmaster who invented it. Hazou's already done a flip-flop dance on what to call Time Runes, after they were first invented. I think once a name starts getting around it's more or less set in stone, but at the very least it's mutable while knowledge of it is still limited to just Team Uplift.

[X] Action Plan: The Dawn's Demise
Word Count: <399 (desired)
Desired Duration: A few days
  • Authorize Mari's EM-Nuke dead man's switch.
    • Make another with Cannai, sending messages about EM Nukes to Leaf Summoners.
  • Sanity-check the rest with everyone.
  • Meet Orochimaru.
    • Send only Mari and Hazou, both as SCs. Avoid looking at potential seal elements.
      • Primes camp at the edge of SC range, under cover and concealment. Use SCSA/SSSA, Ninja Radar, etc.
      • Be ready to flee if things go south.
    • If the Medium heals en route, re-attempt to summon Cannai before meeting Orochimaru. Noburi provides immediate treatment.
      • Create the SC for meeting Orochimaru before the attempt.
  • Discuss the Riftwar:
    • Tone: cooperating on a mutually beneficial goal. Be concise. Don't extend the conversation unnecessarily.
    • Inform him about our capabilities: Air Leadening, Icarus, Force Dome, Iron Earth, RER1/2, Ninja Radar.
      • If he's disappointed, tell him many research avenues didn't pan out, and we prioritized protecting Leaf (per Naruto's orders).
      • Mention Rift Runes only if pressed. DON'T mention TRs.
    • Hazou and potentially Noburi's Clan Bosses agreed to be Summoned for this fight.
    • Noburi enables refilled SCs of S-Rankers/ejounin on our side. Like during the Dragonwar.
    • Suggested attack plan:
      1. Trap them inside a Force Dome. With Iron Earth to resist tunneling
      2. Open with a Multi-RER barrage under Air Leadener.
      3. Precision fire at slowed survivors via (now-calibrated/sighted) RERs.
      4. Mop up via S-rank SCs + Bosses.
    • Unsolved problems:
      • Hazou's most powerful offensive runes cannot be transported by storage or 7th Path. They must be shaped on-site.
        • Can we get 4+ hours within ~1 mile of their fortress?
        • Does Orochimaru have expanded storage seals, or a similar solution?
      • Hazou cannot produce substrate. For mass-producing runes, we'd need Orochimaru's assistance.
      • (If Cannai's summoning failed) Hazou doesn't have the reserves to summon Cannai.
        • Hazou suspects Orochimaru has a bioseal to increase chakra reserves. Ordinarily, Hazou wouldn't ask for the unearned power, but given the circumstances, would Orochimaru be willing to apply it to Hazou?
          • If it's permanent, we'd owe him a commensurate favor.
      • Our strongest offensive options require strategic amounts of chakra. We had expected Leaf to supply it.
        • Is there any reason not to involve Leaf? They provide two additional S-Rankers, several Summoners (potentially with Bosses), and chakra.
        • Be alert for his answer. Mari: attempt to determine whether he's deceiving us.
      • When does he plan to strike?
      • Does he have any idea which Akatsuki members are on-site? Numbers of other forces?

Could you add a line where Hazo asks the team to brainstorm and/or set up some sort of deadman that Hazo isn't fully aware of? Even if they end up doing nothing, the belief that they could have done something would be valuable. If Mari is our only failsafe and she's coming to the meeting too, if Orochimaru is somehow able to affect us through our clones (like Orochimaru's cannibal seal, previously), having something else in place, even if only as a hypothetical possibility, could make the difference. and it should only take like, a handful of words honestly.
I can't figure a good way to shoe horn this in, if someone has a suggested wording I like, I'll use it.

It feels fragile, to me. But I suppose in this of all battles, we needn't worry about taking casualties, so long as we win.

(Also Conjura might not be willing and whoever wound up with the Monkey scroll probably doesn't have boss-summoning amounts of chakra, but that's not the central point here.)

The dead man's switch is only useful if Oro knows we have it, right? Are we going to tell him we've primed civilization-ending secrets to be shared if we die there?
I don't think that's very pro-social behavior (or it's gonna be tough to present it in a way that isn't ultimately more harmful, IMO). Oro may not care about a lot of the social stuff but I suspect immediately presenting ourselves as potentially hostile will push that idea to the forefront of his mind

...maybe Mari can casually slip it in? Or maybe you're right and Chadzou can just drop the bombshell right away like "Yeah I know you've probably got some switches up yourself and I'm not even gonna tell you the blast yield of mine, so let's go ahead and skip the backstabbing each other stuff mmkay?"

Okay this should have more or less all the feedback so far, if you don't see your stuff I didn't add it (probably because I missed it).
Can you please remove the section where Hazou volunteers for a bioseal (and puts himself in debt to Orochimaru for it)

If Leaf is joining us, we should have plenty of Bosses and Essies to spam without Cannai, and we'd be better of not bringing it up.

If Oro says that we can't involve Leaf, then we can always suggest it next update.

Thank you.

I actually think this general approach would work.

I half suspect Oro will assume we have a dead man's switch anyway. It seems to be SOP for him.

I think he thinks of it as a normal thing to do, but won't assume we have one, because he doesn't assume Hazō has the relevant kind of sense and experience.

I already said no to this. Post a fork if you want.

  • Sanity check all with the rest of the team
  • Travel to Orochimaru
    • Set up at the edge of SC range, under cover and concealment, use SCSA/SSSA, Ninja Radar etc. be ready to leave quickly if things don't go well.
  • Meet with Orochimaru
    • Send just Mari and Hazou, both as SCs.
  • Discuss the Riftwar
    • Tone: cooperating on a mutually beneficial goal. Cover all the points, but be concise and don't extend the conversation unnecessary.
    • We have the runic-scale defenses to protect Leaf and secure their help in the Riftwar.
      • If he doesn't believe that Leaf will help, disclose Naruto's secret orders.
    • We've been on a new blackout, what's the update on the general situation?
    • Outline our capabilities: Air Leadening, Icarus, Force Dome, Iron Earth, Remote Explosive 1.0/2.0, Ninja Radar, and the Vampiric Dew Bloodline.
      • Do NOT mention TRs, mention Rift Runes only if pressed.
    • Suggested attack plan: Trap them inside a Force Dome, then open with a Multi-RER barrage, under a max-range Air Leadener with subsequent shots to pick off slowed essies, followed by Essieclone/Boss Rush for any survivors.
      • That said, preparing a full-scale RER barrage will take a lot of time, substrate, and chakra.
        • How likely is it we'd get 4+ hours within 2 miles of their fortress?
        • Do you have a trick for moving massive rune blanks from the 7th path?
    • Is there any reason not to involve Leaf? They provide 2 additional S-Rank fighters, several Summoners who can potentially Summon Clan Bosses and sufficient chakra.
      • Be alert for his answer, and Mari attempts to tell if he is deceiving us.
      • When do you plan to strike?
      • Does he have any idea which (if any) Akatsuki members are on site? Numbers of other forces?

The current plan suggests trapping them in a Force Dome, and then blasting with RER. But the Force Dome as I understand it might survive a RER barrage. I think more refinement of the plan is necessary before we pitch that tactic to Oro.

I believe the plan is to trap the whole battlefield in a Force Dome, including our fireing position.

Stop random Jashinists from fleeing to immediately spreading word of what happened.

Getting biosealed seems mostly inadvisable, unless we think the extra chakra reserves will be what tips the balance in our favor in the Akatsuki fight (which seems unlikely).

I'm a little nervous about setting up right at the edge of our SC range. Oro is likely to want us to follow him somewhere to talk - advice never to go to a second location notwithstanding I'd rather not have to admit we can't actually follow him because we're clones.

Am I being needlessly anxious? (That's a serious question.)

I mirror concerns about getting biosealed beyond necessity but I'd rather ask Orochimaru if he thinks it'll be decisive than leave it off the bargaining table entirely.

Secondary concern: the edge of our SC range is a one-dimensional area to search, if Orochimaru is inclined to try and hunt down our real bodies. Although he doesn't know our exact SC level, he has a lot of familiarity with the technique and may be able to make an educated guess at how far we've trained it. If we instead choose a random spot within 50% and 90% of our SC range, the amount of search space he'd need to cover is dramatically larger.

(50% lower bound so we aren't too close, which would introduce its own risks, and 90% upper bound to ensure some flexibility for the concern you mentioned.)

Can we cut RER2 blanks into storable pieces and just ES them back together like we did for our first Runic Mount replica?
