I think realistically we'll have to wait to find out what the gameboard looks like after the end of this arc (assuming Hazou survives). What training decisions make sense will depend on what the situation is and what we urgently need. Possibly we have a lot of problems that can be solved with minatosealing and TH so we rush for that, possibly we have a lot of problems that can be solved with runecrafting, so we postpone MS and TH and spend our research time on runes.

Right, which is why my suggestion was "level Ath so we don't die, then Minatosealing(essie bullshit), then other combat stats"
Ath is pretty useless if you don't have an attack stat too. The enemy just runs you out of FP and kills you.

At full FOOM this is about 150 days of XP generation spent on combat stats. 2000 of the XP listed for this build is from notes. The other 1500 XP is to buy MS.

This is a reasonable compromise between combat stats and MS and I am not inclined to get MS any faster than this.

thank you all for working on this.

That said, oof.
I... really really don't want to wait that long for Minatosealing.
we're what, ~1200 xp from unlocking and softcaping Minatosealing? But this plan wants to spend a solar year grinding other stats first?

I'd much rather raise Ath, then rush MS, then spend a year grinding other stats while doing TH and Minatosealing projects.

Does that make sense? what the reasoning for not doing that order instead?
I'm of two minds about it still. Like Acidshill said, we need to see how this arc resolves before we know what objectives and pressures we'll be facing in the future.

Thinking optimistically, let's say we square away all this Akatsuki stuff, secure the rift, and prepare to delve it. We'll be optimizing, then, for what helps us survive and efficiently search in the pure lands. It's possible that Minatosealing could be key here, letting us circumvent the path drain or something. It's possible that surviving in there will require higher base stats than Hazou currently has. We'd need to wait and see what the afterlife brings.

But there are other scenarios. If, say, we deal with the rift but remain missing-nin, then we may want to prioritize combat stats so that we can move more boldly as missing-nin. If we fail to deny Akatsuki the rift and expect Pain's return at some point in the future, maybe we aim for MS as a hail mary in an increasingly-desperate resistance effort.
Ath is pretty useless if you don't have an attack stat too. The enemy just runs you out of FP and kills you.
In a 1v1, yes, but the most common type of fight scenario we end up in is "Hazou's fighting as part of a group and needs to provide buffs and not die". Whether it's with the Dogs or Team Uplift, we don't tend to fight alone, and don't tend to be the dps party member. In these kinds of scenarios, imo the value of Athletics vastly outstrips the value of Taijutsu.

(And if we want to become the kind of build that can fight solo battles, then we definitely need both. But in terms of comparing the two against each other, getting just the one, I don't think we're going to stop getting into team fights where having good Ath means a lot more than having good Tai)

Also, we have lots of tricks to raise our effective-taijutsu (RB, Roki, Force Claws, etc.), so it's not even like Hazou's *that* bad off right now.

Dumping your only attack stat while playing rocket tag an incredibly bad idea. It essentially leaves Hazou defenseless in any one-on-one combat, and I will not be voting for it.

He might be in team combat more often but one-on-one fights happen we can't expect to avoid them entirely. Planning to just die in them is, as I said, a mind-bogglingly bad idea.

Again, you definitely need both Taijutsu and Athletics to survive solo fights. If you have Tai but not Ath then they just clobber you turn 1 (with their superior Alt) and the Consequences mean you can't fight back after that. In fact, the only realistic 1v1 fight scenario I can think of where Hazou survives despite lacking one of those two stats is the Sandworm case, where he just needs to survive turn 1 and then flee on skywalkers. Ath, not Tai.

Hazou has been forced to fight for his life solo twiceonce in the entirety of MfD, once against Daizen in the non-simulationist chapter, and once waaaaay back in chapter 28(nvmd, akane was there.)

I think we can do a pretty good job of trying to avoid them entirely, actually.

Plus, Hazou has the CR to summon a Jounin-dog now, so Hazou can have instant backup wherever he goes.

Also, I dispute the assumption that learning Minato's GOATed S-rank Bullshit won't increase Hazou's combat power.

My concern with MS is that we don't know whether it's possible to remove Minatoseals after creating them. Relevant quote below:
"And there are thirty-six strokes in just the first seal that the stinking Hokage made!" Kagome said. "You can't do this Hazou. You'll just die. And then you need to keep it all stable while you're infusing it? Bioseals are deadly because the patterns change over time after you infuse it, but even biosealers are smart compared to the kind of dummy it would take to try to infuse a seal whose patterns can change while you're infusing it. How would you even infuse a seal if it's made of your own chakra? You can't touch it like a normal seal, and you can't push your chakra through it if it's already made of your chakra. And what happens after you infuse it? You just need to keep focusing on it forever until you eventually need to sleep and then the seal fails and your chakra all gets sucked into a rift and one of the whispering schemers starts piloting around your body since you're gone and then it starts secretly killing us all one by one until-"

"It's not that bad, Kagome-sensei," Hazou said quickly. "That's what I meant when I said there's a manual. Those weird exercises that Asuma talked about? They're exercises for improving your ability to maintain those chakra channels. And the seals are apparently kinda stable once they're infused. You can't just ignore them, but if you can apply a little bit of… 'pressure', they'll just keep their shape and stay anchored to your chakra system. There's exercises for that too, to teach you how to maintain the 'pressure' to keep the seal stable even when you sleep. As to how you infuse it… I don't know. I tried to read that part, but I don't think I really got it. There's more complicated stuff in here, but I don't think it's completely unachievable."
Note that Kagome says that you would need to keep the seal intact indefinitely or it would fail. Hazō points out that doing that is easier than Kagome thinks, but he does not dispute the underlying premise that the seal has to be kept intact.

It seems entirely possible to me that once you make a Minatoseal, if it doesn't have a finite number of uses - or maybe even if it does - you're just stuck with it forever. I am nearly certain that Minato used Shadow Clones to learn the discipline, and we can do the same - the assumption being that SC dissolution rapidly unmakes the entire seal simultaneously, preventing the occurrence of damaged states that would lead to seal failure - but if Minatoseals can't be removed, by putting them on ourselves too early we'd be permanently limiting our future potential, which would incentivise us to wait until we softcap MS before using it at all and to think very carefully about the choice before using it even then. Also, we'd be making ourselves open to seal failure if our ability to maintain the stabilizing pressure was ever disrupted (say, by damage to our chakra system from Noburi overcharge).

All in all, I'm worried that MS will turn out not actually to be that useful, and would prefer to get decent base combat stats before sinking too much XP into it.

I desperately want MS, but I recognize that it's probably really inconvenient to learn and research. Flying Thunder God is probably the end of a whole research chain, not something we'll quickly be able to grab once we get the stat.

Let's do some combat while researching runes. We still have so many Runes to invent ! We even still have paper seals to make ! It's not like research will completely stop while we level combat.

With Shadow Clone, it might be possible to have the Clones infuse and use a Minato Seal. Since their Chakra System is independent of the owner, one might be able to trial Minatoseals safely, and additionally not worry about sudden seal failure from falling asleep or whatever.

Also more flexible.

That actually makes me wonder if one can use Bioseals on a Shadow Clone, now that I think about it. Might be something worth looking at via TH, perhaps creating a Shadow Clone variant that has '1' physical stress box.

Shinies might be able to bootstrap Hazou's genin-tier combat build into something almost respectable. Imagine what those shinies could do to an already respectable statline?

Not to mention, we have to live to be able to make those shinies. :V

Naruto's shadow clones don't have functioning Minatoseals makes me feel this is unlikely. Overall, I think that clones just aren't well suited for this. They're meant to be fascimiles of people, and their organs, meaning a shadow clone probably couldn't support a minatoseal. (though Noburi's recent Shadow Clone acquisition raises questions)

Despite the above, I think flexibility is something inherent to Minatoseals. None of our organs are ever static, and Noburi very recently called the chakra system the most complex organ system in our body. We could (maybe) design a Minatoseal that is adaptable enough that a shadow clone could still use it on whatever instance it has, or impart some extra ability to the clone.

FWIW, I would expect something like ACE (a training jutsu that exercises your chakra coils to naturally grow somewhat larger, over the course of a year) to be reflected in Shadow Clone (which copies the Prime's chakra capacity), but not bioseals/Minatoseals (which are artificial grafts/infusions placed within the human body).

After all, Shadow Clones don't even receive bloodline abilities, and those are genetic and so fundamental to your existence that they have an influence on your Aura (see: Kei, Ami, and Hazou-pilot's own musing about the potential effects of the Iron Nerve on his bloodline).

They have enough of a chakra system to do Technique Hacking. Why shouldn't they be able to infuse Minatoseals? (Note: this is a separate question from "do Prime's Minatoseals get copied to SCs", which I agree is unlikely.)

FWIW, I doubt that MS blanks would get copied over. Bloodline abilities are far more ingrained into someone's anatomy (they're inherited genetically, and are also affected by genetic drift), but shadow clones don't receive bloodline abilities.

I suspect that MS blanks that get copied over would be akin to paper seals that get copied over when you cast SC: not proper seals that cannot be used. We see Team Uplift carrying copies of their loadouts to hand to their Shadow Clones after Summoning.

This is also backed by the narrative: Naruto's Shadow Clones do not have a proper bijuu seal.

Hazō (Primordial Sealing): 32 + 22 (crossover bonus from DoB-boosted Sealing) + 12 (Disciple of the Beyond) + 8 (prep) - 9 = 65
Hazō spends a FP to reroll! 3 FP remain.
Hazō (Primordial Sealing): 32 + 22 (crossover bonus from DoB-boosted Sealing) + 12 (Disciple of the Beyond) + 8 (prep) + 0 = 74

Hazō thinks he's around halfway done with this rune.

Infuse Rift-unanchoring Rune:

Hazō (Earthshaping): 50 - 6 (timeladder down) + 10 (prep) + 0 = 54
Hazō (Primordial Sealing): 32 + 22 (crossover bonus from DoB-boosted Sealing) + 12 (Disciple of the Beyond) + 10 (prep) - 3 = 73

This rune is definitely a good bit harder than the previous rift rune. Nonetheless, it's totally workable. Hazō estimates he's maybe a tenth of the way finished. He'll keep at full prep for another cycle, same as the previous rift rune, while he's feeling out the difficulty before he starts dropping prep.

Hazō (Primordial Sealing): 32 + 22 (crossover bonus from DoB-boosted Sealing) + 12 (Disciple of the Beyond) + 4 (prep) - 3 = 67

Hazō completes the Ninja-Radar Rune! Mechanics: Creates a sphere of light 1 meter in diameter hovering over the rune. All chakra sources within 1 km that have over 100CP currently in their system will be displayed as a dot of light on the surface of the sphere. The brightness of the dot indicates both direction and quantity of chakra together, so a very bright source might be closer or stronger. If a source is represented on the display and then burns their chakra below 100 CP, it will be removed from the display. Sources in the same zone as the rune are not displayed in order to prevent visual clutter.

The rune is the notional center of the sphere, so location of the dot indicates direction.
Lasts 1 month, then burns out.

That probably won't fail…

Progress is slowing down, some of these low rolls are getting scary, so Hazō won't drop any more prep days from here. He thinks he's comfortably more than halfway done with this rune anyway.

Oh yeah, this rune is definitely going to unstagnate Hazō (and in fact, adding a Landmine trigger could be a good next project… if it's doable at all). He thinks he's a fifth of the way done, and that's including the veterancy he's getting from Explosiver and the last Remote Explosive.

Day 61
Infuse Remote Explosive 2.0:
Hazō (Earthshaping): 50 - 6 (timeladder down) + 10 (prep) - 6 = 48
Hazō (Primordial Sealing): 32 + 22 (crossover bonus from DoB-boosted Sealing) + 12 (Disciple of the Beyond) + 10 (prep) + 6 = 82

Infuse Rift-kicking Rune:
Hazō (Earthshaping): 50 - 6 (timeladder down) + 10 (prep) + 9 = 63
Hazō (Primordial Sealing): 32 + 22 (crossover bonus from DoB-boosted Sealing) + 12 (Disciple of the Beyond) + 10 (prep) - 6 = 70

Hazō spends a FP to reroll! 2 FP remain.
Hazō (Primordial Sealing): 32 + 22 (crossover bonus from DoB-boosted Sealing) + 12 (Disciple of the Beyond) + 10 (prep) + 3 = 79

Infuse Rift-kicking Rune:
Hazō (Earthshaping): 50 - 6 (timeladder down) + 10 (prep) + 0 = 54

Hazō (Primordial Sealing): 32 + 22 (crossover bonus from DoB-boosted Sealing) + 12 (Disciple of the Beyond) + 10 (prep) - 3 = 73

Infuse Rift-kicking Rune:
Hazō (Earthshaping): 50 - 6 (timeladder down) + 10 (prep) - 6 = 48
Hazō (Primordial Sealing): 32 + 22 (crossover bonus from DoB-boosted Sealing) + 12 (Disciple of the Beyond) + 10 (prep) - 3 = 73

Infuse Banshee Lover:
Hazō (Calligraphy): 47 + 3 (Dampener) + 10 (prep) + 3 = 63
Hazō (Sealing): 54 + 10 (prep) + 0 = 64

Hazō completes the Banshee Lover seal! This seal slightly amplifies sound near the wearer's ears, but doesn't amplify any sound to a debilitating level. Tentative mechanics:
  • +2*AB to Examination to understand or decode very quiet sounds (e.g. whispered conversations).
  • +AB to Alertness to passively notice enemies hiding (e.g. hearing the rustle of their clothes or their breathing).
  • +AB to initiative at GM's discretion (e.g. bonus applies if an enemy is leaping out at you and hearing them lets you react earlier. Would not apply if enemy is standing across from you, such as in the fight against the ninja in the Land of Neck). Stackability with chakdar TBD.

Day 77
Prep Remote Explosive 2.0.
Prep Rift-kicking Rune.
Prep High-Capacity Storage Seal. -1 FP, +2 prep days. Difficulty Result: Jiraiya. Hazō thinks that storage seals' island of stability will just be really hard to escape in any direction. Compromising on some features will not necessarily be a way to make other features stronger. 2 FP remain.

Day 82
Infuse Remote Explosive 2.0:
Hazō (Earthshaping): 50 - 6 (timeladder down) + 10 (prep) - 3 = 51
Hazō (Primordial Sealing): 32 + 22 (crossover bonus from DoB-boosted Sealing) + 12 (Disciple of the Beyond) + 10 (prep) + 3 = 79

Hazō completes the Remote Explosive 2.0! Tentative mechanics: Identical to the Remove Explosive, except it takes 625 substrate, has a central TN of 120, and has a range of 2 km. This clears his Sealing stagnancy, and as a significant project, grants him +1 FP. He now has 4 FP.

Infuse Rift-kicking Rune:
Hazō (Earthshaping): 50 - 6 (timeladder down) + 10 (prep) + 0 = 54
Hazō (Primordial Sealing): 32 + 22 (crossover bonus from DoB-boosted Sealing) + 12 (Disciple of the Beyond) + 10 (prep) + 6 = 82

Hazō thinks he's a little under ⅓ of the way done with the Rift-kicking rune.

Infuse KISS [A/N: SOP says to prep for 5 days but Hazō has 3 FP, so he's fine with overriding the SOP and attempting with only 4 prep days if he rerolls -6 and below – this is edge-casey enough that I'm fine changing the 'pilot behavior in this situation in the future, so let me know if you think I made the wrong call].
Hazō (Calligraphy): 47 + 3 (Dampener) + 8 (prep) + 6 = 64
Hazō (Sealing): 54 + 8 (prep) + 12 = 74

Hazō is not quite sure how easy this seal is, given how unusually well the research went, so he can't judge his progress very well. The chakra detection part is old hat for him at this point, with his veterancy from chakdar, the chakrascope, Minato's jinchuuriki seals, and most recently Jiraiya's Tracking Earth Bullet seal. He expects that there will be some engineering/deployment challenges to go along with this seal, even if he gets it done.

Day 83
DoB rest.

Net FP: 0. Hazō spent 50 XP purchasing Fate Points in this chapter.
Seal research for Chapter 689 has been edited into the chapter.

Alright problem with the Rift Assualt plan, each RER will take at least 125 units of substrate which is more than will fit into a storage seal.

@eaglejarl @Paperclipped @Velorien

Can Hazou preshape runic blanks and divide them into chunks that can be stored and recombined later with a drastically shortened ES time? Say 10 minutes or so.

Also did Hazou ever get access to storage seals with larger capacities? Either from the Tower Seals or Jiriaya's hoard? I'm not asking for the full dump just if there's this one specifc thing in there we need.

EDIT: This is a strange question but how much can a chakra-enhanced Hazou deadlift? If he can pick the blanks up he can shape them on the Seventh Path and Unsummon holding them.

125 pt blank - 312.5 kg (689 lbs) natty powerlifters can do this so he should be good IMO
625 pt blank - 1562.5 kg (3445 lbs) this is about 3.5x more than the strongest non-chakra enhanced (they do steroids) humans can do. It is plausible that Hazou can do this but not certain by any means.
@eaglejarl @Velorien @Paperclipped

I wanted to follow up on this since it matters a lot for our Rift Assualt plan.

@Paperclipped, question: this rune says it has a range of 2km. The original RE rune had a range of 1 mile. Is the change in units intentional (i.e. RE 2.0 has only about 400 metres more range than RE 1.0) or accidental (i.e. RE 2.0 should have twice the range of RE 1.0)?
