A quick refresher of what CR 32 looks like for our chakra budget, prep days increment up to 0.7x FOOM, we are helping in Dog on rest days so they don't count for FOOM or reading notes.
Without Pool

Hazou has 500 (extra) + 336 = 836 to spend.

On infusion days:
Hazou must go into debt to afford 350 (Rune A) + 350 (Rune B) + 175 (SC + 5 Clones) = 975 CP, 15 additional blocks to use.

On rest days:
Hazou spends: 250 (SC + 4 Clones) + 560 (SC for 7 blocks) = 810 CP => 0.7x FOOM Mult and 7 additional blocks to use.

On prep days:
Hazou spends 275 (SC + 5 Clones) + 540 (SC for 7 blocks) = 815 CP => 0.7x FOOM Mult and 12 additional blocks to use (8 if double tracking, 4 if triple tracking).

On travel days: (note that he has only 3 hours per clone, so each clone can only get a single training block):
300 (SC + 6 Clones) + 480 (SC for 6 blocks) = 780 CP => 0.6 FOOM Mult and 0 additional blocks
On days when there's no additional chakra he can still read notes for however many blocks he has that day after research.
This doesn't end up mattering in the slightest.

Hazō (Earthshaping): 50 - 6 (timeladder down) + 8 (prep) - 3 = 49
Hazō (Primordial Sealing): 32 + 22 (crossover bonus from DoB-boosted Sealing) + 12 (Disciple of the Beyond) + 8 (prep) - 9 = 65
Hazō spends a FP to reroll! 3 FP remain.
Hazō (Primordial Sealing): 32 + 22 (crossover bonus from DoB-boosted Sealing) + 12 (Disciple of the Beyond) + 8 (prep) + 0 = 74

Hazō thinks he's around halfway done with this rune.

Infuse Rift-unanchoring Rune:

Hazō (Earthshaping): 50 - 6 (timeladder down) + 10 (prep) + 0 = 54
Hazō (Primordial Sealing): 32 + 22 (crossover bonus from DoB-boosted Sealing) + 12 (Disciple of the Beyond) + 10 (prep) - 3 = 73

This rune is definitely a good bit harder than the previous rift rune. Nonetheless, it's totally workable. Hazō estimates he's maybe a tenth of the way finished. He'll keep at full prep for another cycle, same as the previous rift rune, while he's feeling out the difficulty before he starts dropping prep.

Infuse Banshee Lover:
Hazō (Calligraphy): 47 + 3 (Dampener) + 8 (prep) - 6 = 52
Hazō (Sealing): 54 + 8 (prep) + 6 = 68

Hazō (Primordial Sealing): 32 + 22 (crossover bonus from DoB-boosted Sealing) + 12 (Disciple of the Beyond) + 10 (prep) - 6 = 70
Hazō doesn't think he needs to reroll this, so he'll let it slide…

Infuse Rift-unanchoring Rune:

Hazō (Earthshaping): 50 - 6 (timeladder down) + 10 (prep) + 12 = 66
Hazō (Primordial Sealing): 32 + 22 (crossover bonus from DoB-boosted Sealing) + 12 (Disciple of the Beyond) + 10 (prep) + 0 = 76

Hazō will cautiously drop a prep day next cycle.

Hazō (Primordial Sealing): 32 + 22 (crossover bonus from DoB-boosted Sealing) + 12 (Disciple of the Beyond) + 8 (prep) + 6 = 80

Should be finished in another cycle like that one. Two if he's not so lucky.

Infuse Rift-unanchoring Rune:

Hazō (Earthshaping): 50 - 6 (timeladder down) + 8 (prep) - 9 = 43
Hazō spends a FP to reroll! 2 FP remain.
Hazō (Earthshaping): 50 - 6 (timeladder down) + 8 (prep) + 6 = 58
Hazō (Primordial Sealing): 32 + 22 (crossover bonus from DoB-boosted Sealing) + 12 (Disciple of the Beyond) + 8 (prep) + 6 = 80

Still going well. Hazō will drop another prep day.

Infuse Banshee Lover:
Hazō (Calligraphy): 47 + 3 (Dampener) + 8 (prep) - 6 = 52

Hazō (Primordial Sealing): 32 + 22 (crossover bonus from DoB-boosted Sealing) + 12 (Disciple of the Beyond) + 6 (prep) + 3 = 75

Hazō just barely misses out on finishing this rune. Probably because of the dropped prep days and not managing even a little luck.

Infuse Rift-unanchoring Rune:

Hazō (Earthshaping): 50 - 6 (timeladder down) + 6 (prep) - 9 = 41
Hazō spends a FP to reroll!
Hazō (Earthshaping): 50 - 6 (timeladder down) + 6 (prep) - 9 = 41

Hazō (Primordial Sealing): 32 + 22 (crossover bonus from DoB-boosted Sealing) + 12 (Disciple of the Beyond) + 6 (prep) + 0 = 72

Well, despite the Earthshaping scare, this went fairly well. Assuming he doesn't roll terribly again on ES, Hazō will drop yet another prep day.

Infuse Banshee Lover:

Hazō (Primordial Sealing): 32 + 22 (crossover bonus from DoB-boosted Sealing) + 12 (Disciple of the Beyond) + 4 (prep) - 3 = 67

Hazō completes the Ninja-Radar Rune! Mechanics: Creates a sphere of light 1 meter in diameter hovering over the rune. All chakra sources within 1 km that have over 100CP currently in their system will be displayed as a dot of light on the surface of the sphere. The brightness of the dot indicates both direction and quantity of chakra together, so a very bright source might be closer or stronger. If a source is represented on the display and then burns their chakra below 100 CP, it will be removed from the display. Sources in the same zone as the rune are not displayed in order to prevent visual clutter.

The rune is the notional center of the sphere, so location of the dot indicates direction.
Lasts 1 month, then burns out.

Infuse Rift-unanchoring Rune:

Hazō (Earthshaping): 50 - 6 (timeladder down) + 4 (prep) - 3 = 45
Hazō (Primordial Sealing): 32 + 22 (crossover bonus from DoB-boosted Sealing) + 12 (Disciple of the Beyond) + 4 (prep) - 9 = 61

Hazō (Primordial Sealing): 32 + 22 (crossover bonus from DoB-boosted Sealing) + 12 (Disciple of the Beyond) + 4 (prep) - 6 = 64
That probably won't fail…

Progress is slowing down, some of these low rolls are getting scary, so Hazō won't drop any more prep days from here. He thinks he's comfortably more than halfway done with this rune anyway.

Infuse Banshee Lover:
Hazō (Calligraphy): 47 + 3 (Dampener) + 4 (prep) + 0 = 54

Hazō (Primordial Sealing): 32 + 22 (crossover bonus from DoB-boosted Sealing) + 12 (Disciple of the Beyond) + 8 (prep) + 0 = 74

Hazō completes the Explosiver Rune! Tentative mechanics: It acts like an Explosive Rune, except it takes 125 points of substrate to make, has a central zone TN of 120, and spreads outwards to 4 additional Zones (until the TN is 40, same as with the normal Explosive rune).

Infuse Rift-unanchoring Rune:
Hazō (Earthshaping): 50 - 6 (timeladder down) + 8 (prep) - 6 = 46

Hazō (Primordial Sealing): 32 + 22 (crossover bonus from DoB-boosted Sealing) + 12 (Disciple of the Beyond) + 10 (prep) + 6 = 82

Oh yeah, this rune is definitely going to unstagnate Hazō (and in fact, adding a Landmine trigger could be a good next project… if it's doable at all). He thinks he's a fifth of the way done, and that's including the veterancy he's getting from Explosiver and the last Remote Explosive.

Infuse Rift-unanchoring Rune:
Hazō (Earthshaping): 50 - 6 (timeladder down) + 8 (prep) + 3 = 52
Hazō (Primordial Sealing): 32 + 22 (crossover bonus from DoB-boosted Sealing) + 12 (Disciple of the Beyond) + 10 (prep) + 12 = 86

Hazō completes the Rift-unanchoring Rune! The rift that this rune is applied to is dimensionally unlocked. Rift-moving runes or seals are now just a matter of grabbing onto the rift somehow.

Hazō (Sealing): 54 + 10 (prep) + 0 = 64

Hazō completes the Banshee Lover seal! This seal slightly amplifies sound near the wearer's ears, but doesn't amplify any sound to a debilitating level. Tentative mechanics:
  • +2*AB to Examination to understand or decode very quiet sounds (e.g. whispered conversations).
  • +AB to Alertness to passively notice enemies hiding (e.g. hearing the rustle of their clothes or their breathing).
  • +AB to initiative at GM's discretion (e.g. bonus applies if an enemy is leaping out at you and hearing them lets you react earlier. Would not apply if enemy is standing across from you, such as in the fight against the ninja in the Land of Neck). Stackability with chakdar TBD.

Hazō (Primordial Sealing): 32 + 22 (crossover bonus from DoB-boosted Sealing) + 12 (Disciple of the Beyond) + 10 (prep) + 3 = 79

Hazō completes the Remote Explosive 2.0! Tentative mechanics: Identical to the Remove Explosive, except it takes 625 substrate, has a central TN of 120, and has a range of 2 km. This clears his Sealing stagnancy, and as a significant project, grants him +1 FP. He now has 4 FP.

Infuse Rift-kicking Rune:
Hazō (Earthshaping): 50 - 6 (timeladder down) + 10 (prep) + 0 = 54
Hazō (Primordial Sealing): 32 + 22 (crossover bonus from DoB-boosted Sealing) + 12 (Disciple of the Beyond) + 10 (prep) + 6 = 82

Hazō thinks he's a little under ⅓ of the way done with the Rift-kicking rune.

Infuse KISS [A/N: SOP says to prep for 5 days but Hazō has 3 FP, so he's fine with overriding the SOP and attempting with only 4 prep days if he rerolls -6 and below – this is edge-casey enough that I'm fine changing the 'pilot behavior in this situation in the future, so let me know if you think I made the wrong call].
Hazō (Calligraphy): 47 + 3 (Dampener) + 8 (prep) + 6 = 64
Hazō (Sealing): 54 + 8 (prep) + 12 = 74

Hazō is not quite sure how easy this seal is, given how unusually well the research went, so he can't judge his progress very well. The chakra detection part is old hat for him at this point, with his veterancy from chakdar, the chakrascope, Minato's jinchuuriki seals, and most recently Jiraiya's Tracking Earth Bullet seal. He expects that there will be some engineering/deployment challenges to go along with this seal, even if he gets it done.

Day 83
DoB rest.

Net FP: 0. Hazō spent 50 XP purchasing Fate Points in this chapter.
I count 55 prep days, 13 DoB rest, 13 infusion days, 1 travel day, and 1 day without excess chakra, but full training blocks, That's 83 days.

Applying the calculated FOOM multipliers from the chakra budget and a daily rate of 4XP/day I get: 4*0.7*55+4*0.6*1 = 156.4 SC XP

Now to do the notes, we get 220 blocks to be spent reading notes from prep days, and 195 blocks from infusion days, plus 19 blocks from that one day there was no chakra for a total of 434 blocks to distribute. I will assume Hazou spends his time intelligently and leaves enough free sets of notes that he isn't running into issues finding 5 sets of notes to work on during infusion days.

169 blocks remaining, so Hazou presumably spend the rest of the time stockpiling 6000+ seal elements for the team to use.

Note that Hazou has banked and spendable Pangolin XP and likewise for Kei with Yamanaka XP. Do try to spend those when possible.
IIRC we aren't spending the Pangolin XP yet because Hazō's Physique is 39 and he's pyramid-constrained. So far no one can agree what to spend Kei's Yamanaka XP on, but it would help to know (a) if Shadow Step requires a supplemental action on top of the supplemental required by Substitution and (b) which of her shadow jutsu Kei thinks would be most helpful to level right now.

I just want to point out that this information --whether Shadow Step takes a Supplemental action in addition to Substitution -- is publicly available in rolls. So Kei shouldn't have any compunctions about telling Hazou this

HAZŌ: Come on, Kei, you can tell me, it's publicly available in rolls!
KEI: Ami?
AMI: [materialises out of thin air and/or thick bacon] Yes dear?
KEI: He's doing the thing.
AMI: Of course he is, you're here!
KEI: No, the other thing!
AMI: Oh, sweet, when's the date? We'll need to sort out the paperwork since I'm officially Leaf Mori, but-
KEI: The other other thing...
AMI: Ah. Sorry, Hazō, no hard feelings but you must die.
HAZŌ: Oh, man, again?

So, if I understand this correctly, we now have 2000XP total of notes XP banked? 1000 in TH, 500 in MedNin, and 500 in MedKnow? Enough to push all three stats to 32?

...

We're not going to spend any of it, are we. I mean, I get that it would push us ridiculously far into stagnancy (and also we don't actually have the pyramid support ATM) but it feels very cheaty to keep that much XP in limbo. We're going to have to spend it at some point. I guess probably the best thing to do is unstagnate Combat, push up Ath/Alt/Tai, and spend the notes XP as and when we need pyramid support?

Edit: right, yes, this is in the plan. Cool.

I think that @Velorien has answered this, before, but I cannot seem to find it in the thread... @faflec, sorry to ask this of you, but would you mind taking a look?

It might be that I'm misremembering, but I could've sworn that Vel had said something about this...
Interrupt!
Nara Clan Ninjutsu

This is a summary of Kei's potential Nara ninjutsu, to be presented to Hazō next time the two meet (unless Hazō dies before then, in which case ignore this post).

Shadow Imitation – You know it, you love it. The user's shadow stretches out to ensnare an opponent's own shadow. If the connection is made, the user can control the opponent's body, making them imitate everything the user does.
Shadow Guardians – A defensive technique that is particularly effective against ranged weapons and in single combat.
Shadow Step – An enhancement to Substitution that hinders enemy movement.
Shadow Betrayal – A moderate debuff that hinders enemy movement.
Shadow Visage – A general-purpose defensive technique.

While she cannot share more details with you (even this much is pushing it), she, as always, defers leveling decisions to you. If you do not give specific instructions, she'll make decisions of her own volition. Please vote in a Kei training plan for this coming cycle spending at least 500 XP into these ninjutsu.

In Kei's opinion, she thinks Shadow Guardians suits her style, Shadow Imitation is generally strong, and Shadow Visage is appealing personally.
@eaglejarl @Velorien @Paperclipped
  • Have Kei's thoughts on this matter changed after the Orochimaru deal?
    • Cloak of the Wind God and Whirlwind Barrier both have incredibly potent defensive capabilities.
    • Does she still think Shadow Guardians and Shadow Visage are good priorities for her to develop afterward?
  • Does Kei consider it realistic to ensnare someone like Hidan using Shadow Imitation?
    • If so…
      • What level of skill would be required to pull it off?
      • Is it something she could train to do, especially with her bloodline aiding her?
Shadow Guardians and Shadow Visage both remain strong, though Shadow Guardians in particular may be hard to juggle with the host of other strong defensive techniques she has access to (read: require combination stunts/run into the buff-stacking cap).

If you're solely asking if it's possible – yes, but it would require jounin-level skill. As always, she would train it if Hazou suggested she do so.
Shadow Step and Substitution aren't exclusive. Rather, the techniques work together and buff each other. For the purpose of Athletics, they combine natively (like Blast Rings + the Explosion Master fighting style), and for other purposes, they both benefit from being at a high level.
There has been stuff said on this, but it may now be out of date.

And what I said about this previously:
I think it comes down to one of pushing Shadow Imitation further up (downside that we'd only get a few extra levels), leveling Shadow Visage (which Kei finds personally appealing and which apparently clashes less with other defensive techniques than Shadow Guardians), or leveling Shadow Step (which would be very appealing if we had the slightest idea of what it actually did).

@eaglejarl @Paperclipped @Velorien: Is Kei willing to answer (any or all of) the following questions?
  • Is Shadow Step a technique that you cast once which then lasts a while without further investment, or do you have to cast it every time you want to use it?
  • Is Shadow Visage an Armour technique?
  • Out of Shadow Imitation, Shadow Step, and Shadow Visage, which does Kei think she would most benefit from training?

All explicitly allowed per QM ruling. We plan to spend it relatively soon all things considered. So I'm just not worried about this.

ACE tracker is updated. Notice that Hazou has 3 days remaining.

EDIT: @Paperclipped is tracking this and his numbers are different from mine by 10+ days. Will need to reconcile later.

EDIT 2: I think Paper is using a different start date. I'm using April 16. To the best of my knowledge (other people in Discord told me to) that's the correct date.

EDIT 3: He's using April 28 and that appears to be the wrong date.

It is now dawn on April 6, 1070 AS. Noburi's practice with the Akimichi Chakra Enhancement technique is complete on April 16. Kagome's summoner training is complete at some point that I'll edit in here as soon as I figure it out and I've posted a bounty for anyone who wants to help.
Pinging also @Paperclipped @Velorien

I wanted to check in about the ACE timeline. Per this threadmark Hazou should have started ACE training on April 16 and be due for ACE 2 in 3 subjective days. I wanted to confirm that that is the correct start and that he has 3 days remaining.

What's the status on the TBD Runes of chapter 681? I'm asking because I notice that we got a lot of QM work on newer Runes.

Hazō completes the Icarus Rune! [Mechanics TBD].

Prep Kamikaze Rune. Difficulty Result: [TBD]
Prep Iron Earth Rune. Difficulty Result: [TBD]
Prep Kagome's Tears Rune. Difficulty Result: [TBD]
Prep Chakra Shredder Pulse Rune. Difficulty Result: [TBD]
Prep Let's Fuck With Sealmasters Rune. Difficulty Result: [TBD]

I think we should spend some of Kei's Yamanaka XP to bring Shadow Step up to 25. We don't have the statblock for Shadow Step, but we know that it "combines natively" with Substitution, for the purposes of boosting Athletics. Lacking any granular details with which to munchkin and optimize (insert: major side eye to Kei), I think that keeping it in lockstep of Substitution is a safe bet.

I think the post above yours quotes why leveling Shadow Step is unappealing. Whatever it does, it isn't as quick to use as Substitution. It might be a Standard to buff Substitution for the next X whatever, but Kei is a RW spec with a bunch of buffs and etc eating into her action economy, particularly the first turn. She can make do with normal Substitution and not being a frontliner until we get more details.
