I would suggest "bringing it up" be sufficiently vague to not indicate civilization-ending deadman's switches.
HAZOU: "Snuncle Warcrimes, you stop that right now or I'll release the smutty literature Jiraiya wrote about the two of you."

Orochimaru: "...You wouldn't."

HAZOU (internally): "Oh shit, it actually exists?!"

I think we probably just get rid of the EM Deadman switch. It's not something we should ever pull, considering the risk of civilization ending.

IMO, going in for surgery without letting Oro know that we have a dead-man's switch (that we can't turn off, that lasts for the long term, etc.) is dangerous because it leaves him with no incentive to not set up a remote-kill function.

Oro says the procedure's complete.
Hazo: "oh, BTW, forgot to mention earlier, there's some stuff I left with Cannai to be released in the event of my death or brainwashing."
Oro: "...don't run off just yet, I need to disarm something."

I straight up would rather get kill-switched by Oro than let the world die by EM nukes.
I think the idea is that Oro would rather not kill-switch Hazo and so the world doesn't need to die from EM nukes.

But also have you considered that Mari could be lying?

As I keep stressing, all that matters is that Hazo believes that his death will have consequences. Mari, the master of deception, would probably rather lie to Hazo than actually doom the world, so... Probably safe on that one.

Jury's still out on what Cannai would do, so uhh there's a new angle to argue about I guess. Have fun?

Imagine thinking Oro can't put in a Bioseal that makes us think Oro is good person whom we should support as much as possible, affecting all plans forward.

Hey, could we introduce the deadman's switch as "we set things up so that if we die today, long-term s-ranker survival gets dramatically harder worldwide. Akatsuki definitely aren't winning in the medium term, even if they kill us today".
If he asks we can reveal we set up weapon proliferation for an easy to make WMD. He can figure out the deadman's switch himself, without us needing to explicitly threaten him.

Authorize Mari's EM-Nuke dead man's switch
Bah I should have voted this cycle.

Dead man's switches that can end the world and false trigger easily and that leak existential risks as a side effect are a good way to burn everything on the altar of absolutism. I don't vibe with that at all. It's also a good way to get the Hokage to order your death when you come back.

Anyone should feel free to ping me for my vote if something like this is in the balance again. My stance of 'don't kill everyone or even large contingents of everyone' being the rule of thumb.

We're literally missing-nin. One of the first things we did was teach Kagome shadow clone, against the Hokage's explicit orders.

Fuck the Hokage. If he wants a prolific superweapon inventor, he can handle the consequences of having superweapons all over the place.

Well, we have a EM nuke deadman switch that triggers if we die. The hokage ordering our death seems like, uh, very not the thing that would lead to good things for him if he weren't.
No, it triggers if Orochimaru does lethal stuff to you. If you want to trigger it on if you die generally, then I am even more opposed. If you want to trigger it specifically against Orochimaru and the Hokage, then I suggest taking some time to model whether that plan actually makes sense.
