The Collapse was not an attempt at extermination, it was a targeted attack against specific elements of Leaf's military and government. Whomever pulled it off (coughRockcough) didn't try to drop the entire city, only specific groups and facilities. Likewise, when Asuma had his momentary breakdown and called for Rock's extermination, his people talked him down in about two minutes.

"I wanted to revisit our prior conversation, sir," said Hazō. "At the time, I was so taken aback by what you said that I didn't know quite what to say. The more I thought about it, the angrier that made me."
Wait wait wait, what the hell is the vessel doing? It was not instructed to have emotions on the topic! What does it think
Hazō controlled his face as hard as he possibly could. Mari had insisted that this was the approach.
Oh. Oh, Mari told him to do it. Nevermind then. This is a brilliant tactic that I merely lack the context, the vision, to properly appreciate the implications of. In fact, it's probably the only reason the plan is going to work at all. I feel foolish for ever doubting it, and would like to retract my statements above.
[x] Do whatever Mari says in all situations.

Something I've been thinking about lately: how much do culture and religion differ between civilians and ninja, and between the ninja villages and rural hinterlands? e.g. do the Hagoromo lead and define religion for the civilians of Leaf as they do for the ninja? Surely their influence over Fire outside Leaf is much weaker.

Lol not good enough. We need her, personally, here. Immediately. If Pantsaa is personally convinced the Dragons are a threat, then there's frankly no excuse.
There's a fantastic excuse from Pantsaa's perspective: letting the dragon's kill off a bunch of other clans. The pangolins are pretty far away from where the dragons are now. So long as the dragons are eventually defeated, every dead clan is a net positive for the pangolins.

"I have been working very hard to get this Conclave to recognize its own best interests and make an alliance in order to stop the Dragons. Thus far I've been sneered at by a Taxioarchus, attacked by a junior guard, and now an ambassador who recently accused me of untrustworthiness is taking a tone that suggests the Dragons don't exist. I have friends in Dog, and my brother has friends in Toad, who would be in danger if we simply left you all to twist, which might be the only reason I'm still putting in the effort to make you people work together to save your own lives."

Honestly, if it weren't for the GS being located in Arachnid, I'd say leave the Rats be. Eventually they'll see hundreds of their brothers and sisters sprint into the open maw of the Beautiful Dragon, and then they'll come begging for help.

If it weren't for the innocent casualties in Arachnid, I'd say that we let the Rats suffer the consequences of their own actions.

Considering how much he hated rock after that, I'm more suprised that it took merely 2 minutes. :V

Enma, Asuma and Hazou are all at the Conclave. At least Enma should be trust worthy enough.

Orochimaru could be brought again.

And didn't Enma bring a Arachnid with him back?

Either the clans want to listen or they don't.

She might be dead. Not ideal, but it does tend to happen to Condors these days.

Sure, but I doubt Pantsaa would send a Condor with low trust away.

But yeah, he might have killed them if he wanted to delay.

See, since the Dragons power up with every Clan they eat, this is incredibly stupid. I'm not saying that Pantsaa isn't thinking this, but it is incredibly stupid.

What if the Dragons become so powerful that they can't be stopped by any force on the 7th Path? They're pretty close to that now.

Easy way to check actually, have Ruri Summon her on the Human Path and have a chat with her. Should probably put that in the next plan.

Really giving into the crab bucket that is MfD, eh?

Hm.

We can try to talk to the crustaceans too.

Crustacean
My info is sketchy. Powerful combatants -- massive armor, powerful attacks. Mostly in the water and, like all the ocean clans, their territory is...fluid. (See what I did there?) They mostly take the depths, while the Krakens take the midlevel and the Sharks take the top.

An adventure for Neji I guess.

Also time to send Mari to take a look at Shinki's place, now that she has SC.

Had a summoning scroll:

"—after Babby, who should know better than to make fun of me in front of newcomers, told me what you were looking for. The Kraken do not currently have a Summoner, nor have they had one for four years. Their most recent Summoner was a boy named Shunki who lived in that big city way the fuck up in the north of Lightning. He inherited the scroll from his father after the father apparently died of one of those illnesses that you humans are so subject to." He paused to scarf down the last of his left-hand cookie. "These really are good, Babby. You must give me the recipe."

edit: whoops, it's Shunki.

Quick PSA: Yesterday's chapter was supposed to be / has been renamed to be 'Conclave Bonus Chapter 4', since we're trying to keep that timeline distinct and collected. Apologies for the mixup, title has been fixed.

On the matter of potential errors...
"In Leaf, the Nara clan are regarded as some of the wisest and most intelligent among us. I have here several monographs written by various Nara on what they call 'the theory of games'. The name sounds frivolous, but it's quite serious. It's about how people can best work together, how to align incentives so that cooperation makes sense, and related ideas that I found quite useful. I don't want to push something on you that you don't want, but if you find the idea interesting then I'd be happy to give you this." He tapped the box. "If nothing else, it will provide illumination on the nature of humans."

"Thank you, Summoner," Nezesari said. "That is very kind of you and I would be fascinated." He held out his hands and accepted the box with appropriate gravity when Hazō passed it over.
Uh, how are they gonna read them? IIRC, Seventh Path translation magics don't work on written text, we've run into this before when asking Kei to look through Pangolin archives or something.

(I really should've caught this myself when copying that section.)

Make it a power move. "Oh. I thought you had a summoner to help you transcribe them into your peoples language, my apologies."

Alternatively, spend a fate point to make it a purely mathematical model and expect them to understand it lmao

Hey guys, I've been bashing my head against what I insist is a puzzle at the bottom of chapter 424:mad:@, and I think I found the solution. It's concerning. The text in parenthesis are characters that weren't actually in the final result for whatever reason, but make a lot of sense to be included. Seals and the First Hazou are due to the words being excluded during the chapter, while the 'e' is because I think EJ is human and miscounted, rather than an eldritch horror who actually named a seal on the dragons equivalent to the bijuu 'Tim'. It wasn't a Velorien chapter after all.

The puzzle, if you aren't aware, looks like this.
...@@#$J:LJuw00EW872JHMNQ2 =@#%Y323NDRqlkjgfljl ..2)&wljhlr . J!LāNMΨlJML... LJ@L)&)61#$H JHLWJ#TLHJ 2o342io)()ijh5hl53 ¯w9w h5hl TNōMlJMΨL... @#%Yw00EW8 ...

My solution is as follows. The puzzle is actually beautiful in it's simplicity - the only thing that matters is the number of characters and spaces between elipses. The rest is visual noise to throw you off, with some hints sprinkled throughout.

"At this point The door w..e bijū (seals) are. (Hazo ),one is Tim(e) .Hazo ,on Come" .muttered he "...bemH" "?me hear you can ,ōz..." ...I'm not ready...

"This point" may be incorrectly included, in which case the message is slightly different but still coherent. Shrug.
So, what the hell does this mean?

Well, one of the theories we still throw around for the cause of the Great Seal degrading was the catastrophe at Nagi Island, where jiinchuriki (and possibly their Bijuu... confirmation here?) were sacrificed in an attempt to develop ninshu and create world peace. So we download the Seal. It talks to us, saying that the Bijuu are a seal on the Door, or sealed *at* the door, which I'm betting the great seal is the primary lock to. Another seal is Time, or Tim. Please not Tim. Then, unfortunately, we reverse summon, breaking ourselves. Hazous first thought is to "remember", which is the most likely word I've come to that Hmeb could be. Hazou makes a chilling comment, that he's not ready, and trails off into unconsciousness. Then we see Tsunade repeatedly rousing Hazou from his black out state.
So because we didn't stick around in the 7th path to digest the seal, the only lore we get from this is that the Biju and Time seal the door, and the rest of the jumbled text is just the first round of Hazou waking up.

Now, some quotes to help make sense of where I came up with this from!
Edit: I've realized that "the door w" akane section is actually unsupported. Figuring that out changes things a lil.

"At this point
I think the next steps are pretty clear. I—" Stop. "Wait. I want to be careful about my words here. I have ideas for what we should do next. I acknowledge that you are the Empress of the Arachnid Clan. You are physically more powerffful than me and you are in chage here, not me. I don't want to do anything without your approval. I would like to lay these ideas out and ask your approval before doing anyanything because I don't want you to feel as though I'm denigrating your authority. I'd like to run these ideas past you and accept your input. Is that all right?"

"The rightness is throughout all."

"!"

The door was not more than half closed before she launched herself at him, wrapping her arms around him and squeezing tight. In a fine example of personal growth, she oderated her strnegth so as not to evert his organs.

"It's good to see you again, Shining Heart," he murmured, stroking her hair and reveling in the scent of it.

Firesoul flicked the ash off his cigarette. "I'm conflicted on this one, . The bijū are...complicated. They were created by the Fourth, with Poetsoul serving as his assistant." His lips reshaped themselves into sadness. "Sparkdancer was an amazing man. Brilliant. Not just at either. He wrote poetry, did you know that?"

"I didn't."

"Please tell me that does not actually mean what it sounds like," Shining Heart said, her eyes sick.

"That's what I said. No, it doesn't. I need to spend the night in the embrace of a female but it doesn't have to be a spider and it doesn't need to involve sex or nakedness or anything like it." He swallowed nervously. "I don't...I hope...I'm not ready for...um."

Homemade pie scented through the air. "It's all right. I'm not either, but the idea of holding you through the night, with both of us fully clothed, sounds nice."

"...zō?"

Ugh.

"...zō, can you hear me?"

"Hmeb..." he muttered.

"Come on, Hazō. Tim
e to wake up." There was something wrong with the voice. It shouldn't sound like that.

He struggled to open his eyes and managed to pry one open a sliver.

"Hey there," said the older woman with the severe face and something wrong with her voice. Her hands were cupped alongside his head and glowing green. Green with medical chakra. She was a ninja. A medic-nin. The medic-nin. At least...she seemed like it. She looked an awful lot like Lady Tsunade, but it couldn't be her. This woman wasn't scowling or shouting.
