"I could say that Manjiro gave you incredibly high marks, but that doesn't begin to cover it. Manjiro is quite reserved and confident in his abilities. It says something that you left him convinced that he was the inferior sealmaster."

"Is that so, sir?" Hazō asked. He'd known he'd aced the test, but Manjiro had remained stiff-lipped throughout in regard to Hazō's prospects.

"He doesn't mince his words. Manjiro plainly indicated that upon concluding the examination, you had convinced him that you understood sealing as a whole better than he did. I get the vague impression that some of his final questions were actually him probing you for advice on a new project, rather than intended parts of the exam, as he included them in the transcript but didn't comment on their implications. Regardless, I'm very pleased to see this."

"Manjiro, what the hell do you mean "Special S-rank"?"

Next update, Asuma is going to convene the EM Council and invite feedback on his decision to destroy Isan using Elemental Mastery. If Hazō has any arguments against doing so (or, indeed, arguments for), this will be his only chance to present them. Please vote in a plan for Hazō to follow during the meeting (instructions for what to do before it will not be accepted since he has no advance warning).
Is this a serious thing? Or did EJ hack your account to play genie?

Well, what a week to be busy with moving and traveling for meatspace reasons. I likely won't have the time/spoons to help out in any meaningful way, so good luck.

"Also, the seal bank should help me build public support," Hazō ventured, choosing to omit the fact that the rift was far from the first thing on his mind when he was busy honouring Akane's memory with an Uplift endeavour.

Honouring her memory. Dammit.

"You don't need public support for the rift," Ami said. "All you need from Leaf is the Hokage's ear and the ability to choose a loyal team to go through. Besides, the seal bank mostly wins you points with the KEI. Kei and I are both on Team Rift and can get what we need from the KEI anyway."

"Ami, people only last in the Pure Lands for as long as they are remembered. You'd be hard pressed to find someone in Leaf who couldn't tell you Jiraiya's story, but Akane was just another barely-remarkable chūnin to the masses. She was, until I founded an organization will become a permanent fixture in the lives of the majority of Leaf's ninja forces, and dedicated it to her and the story of her sacrifice.

I don't know how much time I bought Akane, but the effort required damn well wasn't a waste of my time. Perhaps it slightly delayed the resurrection of those who will enshrine your desired world order — though I doubt it — but I would take that trade in a heartbeat if I means giving my loved ones a better chance to survive."

What about you and your A-Day preparations? I'm assuming that since you had free run of the place without the Hokage to constrain you, you're about to wow me with massive progress?"
Uhh crap what exactly did Ami want us to do? Other than the sealing research. Gotta check on that.

Asuma chuckled. "Ordinarily, there would be a practical component too, having you research a seal that Manjiro grades as safe for your skills but a suitable challenge for jōnin level. Given the circumstances, I hardly think that is required. Manjiro impressed on me that it's not really possible to cheat your way through a sealing exam even if it's only book learning, and he seemed almost offended at the thought that you might be denied the rank. Yes, Hazō, I'm officially authorizing your promotion to special jōnin."
If Hazō actually had to research a seal his calligraphy might make him fail lmao.

"'You have super potential so the Hokage's going to undermine his neutrality to push you into the top tier' tutoring or 'You're a disaster waiting to happen so the Hokage's going to undermine his neutrality to save Leaf' tutoring?"

"Um."

"Whatever," Ami said.
We don't often get a more perfect summary than this.

Surely there was something. He couldn't just tell Ami that while she was risking her life trying to get intel out of Akatsuki, he was just… getting on with things, advancing his own plans and managing his own crises, and maybe some of those were coincidentally helpful for dealing with the issues surrounding the rift.
Ah jeez, all of us forgot about this. How did we all forget about this? Then again, has Kei been making any preparations either?

Shit shit shit I take it back, Asuma and/or Shikamaru probably killed Akane.

I don't really have any ideas for how to handle this meeting, nor do I know what position I want to take.

HAZŌ: Asuma, I firmly believe that Isan hold lore that may be essential to DRAGONWAR. If you absolutely must destroy them, I strongly urge you to allow Mari and I time to extract as much lore from them as possible beforehand.

Immediately after, we send Mari on an infiltration mission, and probably also go ourselves and apply the full pressure of Konoha on their Loremaster clans.

Is it a good idea to bring Ami in on the EM council? She may have useful advice, and probably could use the forewarning to help her manage everything else she's doing, but she's also the head of AMITY and maybe shouldn't be privy to plans to attack another village.

Well, I was tragically serious about this. I'm spending an unfortunate amount of hours either driving or resting from driving.

Tell Asuma we call dibs on any cool seals they loot from the flash-frozen remains of Isan.

Couldn't we just get Isan to join Leaf? Like sure, it might be difficult to get that to happen but if its doable then it beats killing them all. That and hack some "improvement" to EM that is flat out better and make it public library so they don't use EM in the future. Chances are if they haven't discovered the Nuke for generations they won't suddenly have their very few if any jounin level EM near the peak of their pyramid to unlock the possibility.

I think Hazou going on an infiltration mission so far from Leaf is a critical security risk and represents an untenable delay to project necromancy

I can't imagine Asuma authorizing Ami to be officially made aware of EM's nuke potential.

I also think taking steps to have Ami there would violate the "no actions taken in advance" stipulation in Velorien's post

Mari would be infiltrating.

Hazō would be coming with a party in full force and apply pressure overtly. Also, Isan's lore on the Paths and Death and the Sannin (which they knew about and had stories of before we ever met them) would be really helpful for Project Necromancy.
