You kidding? At this point this is the kind of thing Hazou experiences for breakfast :V

(Seriously though essentially the same thing but worse happened when he first saw the Great Seal)
PONGWOG it is unlikely that passing a Resolve roll against some cave bats will top failing a Resolve roll (if one was even possible) against an eldritch artefact of doom.

In fairness, I think they were actually talking about the nearly-failed reverse summoning, but nonetheless I gotta say interdimensional seizure still sounds worse

Organisational roles
PSA: Organisational roles

New rules are now in effect behind the QM screen to model organisations and inter-organisation combat on a mechanical level. They are not directly available to the players (or NPCs). There are seven stats that we are using to represent the core features of an organisation, though additional Aspects or stunts are possible on a case-by-case basis. Organisation stats work on a similar (0-80) scale to character stats. These seven stats are:
  • Bureaucracy. How efficiently your organisation is run; allows you to more effectively take advantage of opportunities or respond to problems as they arise.
  • Influence. Measures your organisation's political sway through concrete personal connections, understanding of key external players, and ability to create consequences for those that disagree with your plans.
  • Intelligence. How effectively your organisation can acquire pertinent information and uncover secrets, as well as how effectively your organisation can monitor and prevent other groups from gathering intelligence on you.
  • Loyalty. How loyal the people of your organisation are to the organisation's leadership and its overarching cause; allows the organisation to work harder on tasks of particular importance.
  • Might. Your organisation's capacity for physical violence; can be used as a threat, or directly exercised.
  • Reputation. How your organisation is perceived in the public eye; affects passive attitudes of characters and other groups towards members of your organisation.
  • Wealth. Represents money, businesses, lands, and other material or financial assets owned by your organisation, especially those that produce ongoing value.
These rules will be used behind the scenes whenever we need to adjudicate questions such as "Are the Gōketsu successful at making the Hagoromo look stupid to the public?" or "Do the Gōketsu beat out the Hyūga to gain ownership of that highly lucrative new onsen that opened up?"

What this means for the Gōketsu is that you can now optimise the clan's effectiveness by assigning characters to specific roles. A role is a full-time job that allows the holder to add their AB for a specific stat to the organisation's corresponding stat. For example, Hazō occupies the Gōketsu Clan's leader role. This allows him to increase the Gōketsu Clan's Loyalty stat by his Presence AB (+2).

Each role can only be occupied by a single character, and each character can only have one role. Not all roles need to be filled, and not all characters can occupy all roles, based on their narrative circumstances (e.g. Yuno cannot be the Gōketsu spymaster).

The full list of roles is as follows:
  • Ambassador:
    • Responsible for interacting with the common people.
    • The ambassador adds their Rapport AB to the organisation's Reputation score.
    • The Gōketsu Clan does not currently have an ambassador.
  • Administrator:
    • Responsible for managing the clan's internal affairs.
    • The administrator adds their Management AB to the organisation's Bureaucracy score.
    • Gaku is currently the Gōketsu Clan's administrator.
  • Diplomat:
    • Responsible for building relationships with other clans and groups of interest.
    • The diplomat adds their Empathy AB to the organisation's Influence score.
    • The Gōketsu Clan does not currently have a diplomat.
  • General:
    • Responsible for the clan's military readiness.
    • The general adds their Intimidation AB to the organisation's Might score.
    • The Gōketsu Clan does not currently have a general.
  • Leader:
    • Responsible for inspiring and directing the clan.
    • The leader adds their Presence AB to the organisation's Loyalty score.
    • Hazō is currently the Gōketsu Clan's leader.
  • Spymaster:
    • Responsible for intelligence gathering and counterespionage.
    • The spymaster adds their Deceit AB to the organisation's Intelligence score.
    • Mari is currently the Gōketsu Clan's spymaster.
  • Treasurer:
    • Responsible for handling the clan's lands and material assets.
    • The treasurer adds their Examination AB to the organisation's Wealth score.
    • The Gōketsu Clan does not currently have a treasurer.
As this is a full-time responsibility, a character assigned to one of these roles will not have narrative time for other assignments other than a modest number of typical ninja missions per month.

Do the roles need to be filled by someone in the Goketsu Clan?

I thought Kei was in charge of the Goketsu finances?
From the way this looks, we have people balancing the budget but we don't have a dedicated Treasurer. Gaku's primary focus is on the Administrator job, and Kei's full-time-job is gonna be either related to the Nara or KEI.

Since the two of them are such a Jashinsend we aren't facing the narrative-level problem of 'nobody knows where our money is or how much we have', but we aren't going to get mechanical bonuses from their Examination scores since they're each tied up elsewhere.

Going off of pure vibes rather than mechanical optimization:
Akane
Noburi
Yuno
Kei may be too busy with the Nara to do this full time. Snowflake maybe? If not, Kagome likes numbers, he could do it, and probably has a better examination score anyways.

And I think Mari is training Haru to be a second spymaster

We also are not sure about any of our other chuunin/genin as we have not interacted with them enough. At the least everyone probably knows advanced math at this point from Kagome/GED

Make our Shadow Clones do it. Noburi has the chakra.
Each role can only be occupied by a single character, and each character can only have one role.
I don't think that will fly... I only suggested snow because she is actually somewhat distinct from Kei and already has requested a full day for herself to be a normal person and not just train constantly, giving her a genuine role in the clan would probably make her happy. Also do we really want to a take a FOOM hit for this? I don't.

Gaku: My lord, Treasurer Snowflake has delivered the weekly budget for you to double check.

Hazou: Hmm, 3rd straight week in a row she's made the same error.

Gaku: Which is?

Hazou: Well, across the margins in accounting there's Kanji accidentally mixed into the numbers which say "I love you" over and over.

Gaku:

Hazou: Oh, I get it, she loves accounting! But you'd best tell her to stop that so we don't accidentally blow up our budget.

Gaku: ....very well, my lord. *Writing note to self in margins* "Double check with Kagome for any Sealing related antimeme cognitohazard protocol"

Zinnia et al: :(

@eaglejarl and @Velorien, have any of these positions ever been temporarily filled? (e.g., Noburi did a stint as Diplomat while we were harassing the Hagomoro.)

My assumption is that they haven't and the results we've got previously are broadly indicative of the results we'd get in the future.

Can we assign people these roles temporarily if the clan is pursuing special projects? I'd assume there's a minimum time they'd need to spend in the role to be able to provide their AB: Kagome needs to be involved in the clan's finances for a month before he's embedded enough to contribute to those rolls.

Can we see the clan's character sheet?
e.g. Yuno cannot be the Gōketsu spymaster
What about Satsuko?

This is primarily the terrifying impact of @Paperclipped joining the QM team.

There's no mechanical obligation, but Kei people will yell at Hazō if he so much as suggests giving control of the core levers of the clan's power to an outsider.

Each role is a full-time job that requires access to certain clan resources. The Gōketsu have not had any roles without Hazō's explicit knowledge.

A month seems like a reasonable amount of time, yes.
