If the Goketsu Clan is getting its own character sheet, I wonder if we can get a sizable loyalty Aspect... for our civilians, at least?

The Food Bank means they don't go hungry (or, at least, not nearly as often), Hazou saved them all from that one winter, GED means they're retaking their autonomy via education, and Uplift as a central clan philosophy likely means they're treated better than how other clans may be inclined to treat their civilians

Maybe that sort of stuff could be represented by tags? Organizations could have their own aspects?

Intelligence. How effectively your organisation can acquire pertinent information and uncover secrets, as well as how effectively your organisation can monitor and prevent other groups from gathering intelligence on you.

With Spynaster Mari, will this be represented by us having access to other Clan character sheets? With some categories only as "?" and others as ranges based on what intelligence Mari has gathered and her degree of confidence in the answer?

It would essentially just be the Goketsu file on the other clans.

[Min/maxers have entered the chat]
There was a period with no min-maxers in the chat?! Given the geographical/timezone span of the hivemind, I can't think of any disaster big enough to make that happen yet small enough to keep the chat itself online.

We were always all going to die. Nothing has changed.
The thing is, we were never likely to kill you narratively unless you made some epically bad decisions (or certain timers ran out). On the other hand, @Paperclipped is a master of killing things with dice.

Can we see the clan's character sheet

No, sorry. We're notifying everyone of the organization rules so that you can choose to appoint people to these roles for the benefits, but we are not exposing the mechanics proper. They are intended as a QM convenience only.

More rolls with more extreme results the deeper in they go and the longer they explore.

Encounter rolls:
  • #1: Day 1, Moderate quantity, moderate strength
  • #2: Day 2, High quantity, moderate strength
  • #3: Day 3, Moderate quantity, high strength
  • #4: Day 3, Low quantity, ultralethal strength

That checks out, Mr. Ultralethal Strength.

*steps out of time machine*

It worked! Hahahaha!

People of 2018! (2017? when was this...? *checks thread dates* 2018, right the first time, got it) I come with a warning from the distant future!

In my time, the lethality was increased repeatedly, and on one fateful chapter the hivemind accidentally allowed Hazou to stray within a ten kilometre radius of another ninja! Obviously, both parties immediately exploded, spewing radioactive fallout all over the Elemental Nations. The death toll was in the tens of thousands, but more importantly, radvic got bored because there was nothing left on the continent to destroy.

Do you KNOW what a bored radvic looks like?!?! It looks like escalation! With all our efforts to hold his weapons in check, we barely managed to keep the multiverse structural for long enough to build this time machine!

Don't increase the lethality!

*calms down*

...or do. Whatever.

@Velorien

Is it possible to have Kei fill a role?

The terms of her marriage, as I understand it are:
  • Is a member of both clans.
  • Uses the Nara name.
    • This is inferred from her doing so. She might also be able to go double-barrelled if she likes.
  • Cannot betray the secrets of either clan.
  • If one clan is about to do something that would step on the others' toes she needs to warn them.
  • Where Nara and Gouketsu interests conflict, Nara has priority.
  • Must obey Shikamaru but not Hazou
    • Ordered by Shikamaru, and not signed off on by Hazou, so probably not actually a part of the agreement. If this was pressed, I don't see Shikamaru winning the argument unless he was willing to divorce her over it — which he likely isn't.
    • Also, frankly, this seems to go against the central premise of "member of both clans" that was a major conflict of that part of the story. If you aren't compelled to obey a clan head, then in what sense are you in the clan?
    • Also also, Vel, you forgot this was even a thing once, confidently asserted that she had to obey Hazou, because otherwise the "dual clan" thing makes no sense, and I had to remind you that you'd written otherwise.
    • IMO this part could just be easily retconned that she has to obey Hazou by removing that line from the chapter where she read the terms of her marriage.
*clears throat*

Okay, that got away from me a little, because I was distracted by a tangent, but my point is that it doesn't really seem that Kei couldn't fill an organisational role based on those terms?

Obviously, she's busy as all hell already, but I don't see any reason in the above as to why she (or her shadow clone sisters) couldn't be doing core Gouketsu work if required.

Yes, but I have an ulterior motive in that if Kei is written as a bit less Nara and a bit more Gouketsu then we get to see her more often.
I thought one of people's main complaints (one I admittedly don't really agree with) is that we already see her very frequently, and she gets more scenes than most other characters? I really like her as a character but I don't think her not getting screentime without this job is going to be a concern, personally

Here's a different question: Will Kei want to take this job? Ignoring the normal stress of having the position, which is already adding to her burdens, it also puts her in a position where she has to interact with other members of the Goketsu leadership. More specifically, Mari.

I think that complaint comes from the hivemind's tendency to, often on Vel updates, drop whatever we're doing and check in with the thinkers (whether that's helpful or has any IC reason), based mostly on the justification that Vel likes writing them. This slows down the story, which some people find frustrating.

If Kei were around the core group more, then her presence would be both more continuous and more natural. She would just be taking part in whatever we were doing, rather than distracting from it.

I don't think it's just that, she was explicitly a focus of fluff updates too...

Maybe the real issue is we do too many 1 on 1 scenes 🤔

We could offscreen more "actionable things" during fluffier action plans.

Such as... Action Plan: A Date with Ino
  • [onscreen fluff]
  • Offscreen
    • Help Kagome with reactive armor seals
    • Now that we have more ninja in the clan, designate a regular/reoccuring Saltern mission
    • Check in on Mari's budding spy network

We've been doing that for a while now though

Given Clan organization sheet: A reminder to revamp clan organization and training chunin ninja for specialties.

Also, I want to start building training schools for various military occupational specialties for ninja in general.

In particular, one of the first school could be Combat Medic school in which trainee receive basic med-nin training and receive a combat medicine badge for completion. This mean that given any ninja squad would have basic med-nin training and wouldn't be totally screwed if their med-nin guy is down.

Med-nin in turn would receive more advanced training as part of their MOS.

The school would also offer refresher courses for veterans and folks who already passed the course, to get up to date training on medical technique and to keep their skills useful.

This would serve as the model for a new military education system that extends beyond the Academy and integrated into every ninja's career.

@eaglejarl @Velorien @OliWhail @Paperclipped The Goketsu has adopted a number of ninja beyond the core Uplift group. Haru, Atomu, Reo, and Mai are the most notable, but we have quite a few Genin as well. What is Mari's opinion of their skillsets in the context of filling a leadership role?

Related: Atomu and Reo are apparently charismatic or have a strong personality, but I am unsure how this translates to their ability to fulfill a leadership role based on the mechanics.

I believed all the genin died, and those who did survive are basically veteran chunins.
