VELORIEN: I told you those XP lootboxes were a bad idea.
EAGLEJARL: I wasn't the one who said Out resistance should be a Resolve roll.
PAPERCLIPPED: [whistles innocently as players carry on with FOOM optimisation]
However little clans respect a crippled ninja, they will respect a ninja commanded by a civilian far, far less.if the in-character official diplomat was a healthy ninja. who was always accompanied by the unofficial but de-facto civilian diplomat. who tells them what to say. could we use the unofficial civilian's diplomat AB bonus? while still having the clans respect the ninja diplomat?
Ngl I am more and more liking the prospect of doing it anyways just to stick it to em
Just rearranging the organisation infopost so it's easier to read...
Administrator: Gaku
(Management AB to Bureaucracy)
- Bureaucracy is how efficiently your organisation is run; allows you to more effectively take advantage of opportunities or respond to problems as they arise.
- Administrator is responsible for managing the clan's internal affairs.
Diplomat: EMPTY
(Empathy AB to Influence)
- Influence measures your organisation's political sway through concrete personal connections, understanding of key external players, and ability to create consequences for those that disagree with your plans.
- Diplomat is responsible for building relationships with other clans and groups of interest.
Spymaster: Mari
(Deceit AB to Intelligence)
- Intelligence is how effectively your organisation can acquire pertinent information and uncover secrets, as well as how effectively your organisation can monitor and prevent other groups from gathering intelligence on you.
- Spymaster is responsible for intelligence gathering and counterespionage.
Leader: Hazou
(Presence AB to Loyalty)
- Loyalty is how loyal the people of your organisation are to the organisation's leadership and its overarching cause; allows the organisation to work harder on tasks of particular importance.
- Leader is responsible for inspiring and directing the clan.
General: EMPTY
(Intimidation AB to Might)
- Might is your organisation's capacity for physical violence; can be used as a threat, or directly exercised.
- General is responsible for the clan's military readiness.
Ambassador: EMPTY
(Rapport AB to Reputation)
- Reputation is how your organisation is perceived in the public eye; affects passive attitudes of characters and other groups towards members of your organisation.
- Ambassador is responsible for interacting with the common people.
Treasurer: EMPTY
(Examination AB to Wealth)
- Wealth represents money, businesses, lands, and other material or financial assets owned by your organisation, especially those that produce ongoing value.
- Treasurer is responsible for handling the clan's lands and material assets.
Or find a few disgraced tax collectors, like a less selfish Eiichi.
- Kagome, maybe...? It would drag him away from research, though...
- IMO we should just train a civilian or five to be a Hecking Good Accountant.
To some degree sealmasters are reinventing the wheel, each and every one of them. But more importantly, the slow advancement of the field over time, the gradual accumulation of institutional knowledge that makes it easier and easier to learn and grow, can be easily represented by lower TNs.Honestly even if the XP lootboxes thing does sorta break things mechanically, it would have been much weirder if literally noone could "Stand on the shoulders of giants" as it were on knowledge based skills like Sealing and medical knowledge, and instead everyone had to reinvent the proverbial wheel by themselves.
I have been wondering how the "Yes" value works with opposed rolls. Is it really so bad to want to give Hidan's statsheet an on-screen test?

Recommendation to QMs (@eaglejarl @Velorien @OliWhail @Paperclipped):
Provost
(Highest Research-stat AB to Innovation)
This should streamline civilian engineering projects if you're currently just eyeballing how progress is going.
- Innovation is used for research projects that involve general work from the organisation, rather than the attention of specific individuals (like with the sanitation and hang-glider projects).
- A provost is responsible for overseeing and consulting on the research projects conducted by the organisation.
Chief Technical Director is a less exotic term. Moreover, we don't have anyone explicitly suited for this position, as everybody basically worked on a sum total of one engineering project. We lack the technical maturity to appoint one.
I would prefer an engineer who worked across projects and learned multiple discipline to take the rein.
Technically Noburi has a decent research stat as well"Provost" isn't exotic. It's just a senior university post. Also, mechanics-as-written, any researcher-spec (most likely Hazou or Kagome) would be a good fit.
No, a few of them lived. I'll pull up exact quotes later but I think 3 genin survived and have since been adopted. Many genin were promoted and then died, and a couple who weren't promoted also died. We also adopted I want to say 2 academy students who will be genin at some point in the near future
Additionally, this discord message from EJ (of 75% confidence) declares that every ninja on the estate that is still alive has been adopted after offscreen processes (presumably Mari trading around for slots, etc).
- The two Academy students are still Academy students.
- The medically-retired ninja is still there.
- Atomu, Reo, and Mai were adopted, as you said
- The other two semi-crippled chūnin are dead. They were sent on what was expected to be a low-risk patrol mission along the eastern border with two other able-bodied chūnin but they got unlucky and died: that was when Cloud made their move.
- Of the 31 genin:
- 5 joined the KEI. You can check to see if they are still alive.
- 1 ran off because he thought he was going to be tortured by a fish sex cult leader
- 10 died on various missions
- 8 were promoted to chūnin and then died on various missions
- 4 were promoted to chūnin and are still alive and living on the estate
- 3 are still genin and living on the estate
EJ claims he was faflec'd by this post:No. They are all mostly clanless ninja who don't live on the estate.(I done been faflec'd)
Nakano bowed out because he didn't feel up to it, but the rest are still studying. Kagome-sensei's students in order of acquisition are:
- Hazō (sealing, general life advice that mostly relates to explosives)
- Honoka (math, other academics, cheating, general life advice that mostly relates to explosives)
- Genda, Sugiyama, and Jinno (sealing, general life advice that mostly relates to explosives)
- Reo (sealing, general life advice that mostly relates to explosives)
It's in the first Snowflake date interlude.I SWEAR there is a bit somewhere where Akane is sparring with another estate ninja and they put her in some kind of Looney Tunes trap or something and I can't find it. I assume she says what their name is at that part though.
All that searching only for there to not, in fact, be any additional names
To be helpful without, in fact, helping at all is one of those QM skills you have to patiently cultivate, like @eaglejarl's literal genie-ism.All that searching only for there to not, in fact, be any additional names
Nah, your best friend dying is a TN 45 resolve roll to not lose a round staring at their corpseWell... things like your best friend dying probably doesn't inflict a consequence
Hazou manages to do his projects/teaching and be clan head, though admittedly not every role may be as time intensive as the rest. I get the vibe Hazou is mostly just checking in on everything or maybe tweaking here and there rather than directly managing anything. Still, it's possible e.g. the treasurer role could go the same way.
Exactly! Unless you killed them in which case the combat is probably overNah, your best friend dying is a TN 45 resolve roll to not lose a round staring at their corpse
Interesting, I conceptualize it more as generations of sealmasters eventually researching better versions of the Sealing stunt. To some degree sealmasters are reinventing the wheel, each and every one of them. But more importantly, the slow advancement of the field over time, the gradual accumulation of institutional knowledge that makes it easier and easier to learn and grow, can be easily represented by lower TNs.
There is a meaningful difference between "More XP lootboxes lying around" vs "Lower TNs" in that the rest of your pyramid does not experience the inflation of accumulated knowledge. Your pyramid could still constrain your sealing ability despite available notes, whereas lowering TNs to reflect accumulated knowledge explicitly means you don't need Sealing to be as high in your pyramid to achieve the same results. Whether one or the other is better or worse simulation-wise is certainly debatable. But it's not like you can monofocus Sealing & Callig as it is either, so being constrained by pyramid is not newTo some degree sealmasters are reinventing the wheel, each and every one of them.
