The mechanics are for interclan interactions. If any other clans even have research teams, they don't really interact with you at all -- though the general idea of having a clan "Innovation" stat (perhaps just for Clan Gouketsu) that's rolled against research TNs is acknowledged.
Reo has not and has never been studying sealing with Kagome. All references to Reo studying sealing were meant to refer to Fuyuki Kazushi, a genin on your estate, and have since been corrected.

They would all like to join the clan, yes. Any ninja that lives on your estate generally would be doing so in the hope of joining the clan.
Hidenobu may or may not be dead.
Hiraoka Hidenobu, who joined the KEI, worked on your estate's clinic for a while but stopped showing up eventually. Further investigation reveals that he died in the war.
QMs: Yes.
Reo and Mai apparently did not meet her standards, while Atomu can't form handseals and Haruki is not competent enough to be trained. There are a few medics at Leaf General, along with amateur med-nin in KEI that rotate staffing the estate clinic, though it is still very much a skeleton crew.
