So what do y'all think about this idea? I thought of it a week or two ago, and I haven't really had the chance to examine it in detail, but it seems like a reasonable idea to me.
Ami is bullshit, and the hivemind is far too intimidated of her imo. I should probably start voting more when she gets involved.

[X] Interlude: Team Downfall

I suspect adherence to the will of fire was a way to suck up to the first hokage (and his memory thereafter) and it became a matter of natural selection, if a ninja show the will of fire they are more likely to be trusted with power by the higher ups than not and from there it tricked down until everyone was genuinely believing in it.
I mean, Hashirama was the closest thing to 'enlightened' in the world at that point, having figured out Sage Mode on his own, something no one else in canon ever did. Basically when the Tree-Buddha tells you that he has an Awesome New Philosophy, it makes sense for people to listen.

According to Shikamaru, the Will of Fire philosophy actually comes from some random noble who's writings were made famous after his otherwise unremarkable life.

These two things are in no way contradictory.

Also, nooo, not the blatant Hashirama Buddhism references! The trauma is still too fresh.

So proposal once our severe heals. We know that the kraken scroll is in cloud and we are at war with them. Why don't we send in a heavy assault team and take it? No reason to play it soft and it isn't a hard target. So would be minimal risk and get us a power up

Assault team isn't really what's needed here. All we know is that the Summoner was last seen living in a certain town decades ago. We need Intel gathering, blowing up the town would probably make it harder to find. We could send an assault team nearby to hide the Ops team, but realistically Mari or Kurenai would need to infiltrate the village and figure out its location.

This wouldn't be a go in and blow up the town assault. We would go in and subdue any local forces and the capture any locals who would expect to have relevant information. Seize any documents that might be valuable. Before we wanted to be quiet because we didn't want to provoke a war witch cloud but now that's not a worry

The problem with this approach is that Cloud will send a reaction force. infiltration is needed if we want to have time to gather information and find the scroll.

I'll see if I can find the time for it later, but I'd love a training montage plan. Us doing a bit of sealing training with the One Good Hogoromo; us teaching Kagome sealing (the reversal of positions and Kagome's thoughts on Hazou growing up alone are worth it); Noburi all of a sudden focusing physique for Sage mode; etc.

Yes and then hitting the cloud force is a good thing. We want to inflict losses on them. We just go in and ask questions with extreme force. This is a special forces raid

To be fair we don't know much about the clan sure Ritsuo is a homophobic caricature of an asshole, but he isnt the hole clan, the problem is that he is the clan head and is more tiranical than haiashi in that regard.
The older Hagoromo are hardcore conservatives who consider all change to be bad since it takes humanity further away from the golden age of the Sage's time. As far as they're concerned, all humanity is sinful, themselves included, but they are amongst the least sinful because they're at least trying to follow the rules, whereas society at large hardly seems to even care what they are. Younger Hagoromo are divided between the orthodox faithful, those enjoying the moral superiority while only paying lip service to the actual ideals, and those earnestly (and quietly) struggling to reconcile teachings from centuries ago with a reality that no longer quite fits, though it's hard for an outsider to tell which is which.

On the whole, Mari considers them to be somewhere between the Hyūga and the Akimichi. They are judgemental and bigoted, but they are not blood purists, and the average clansman considers a sincere effort to follow the Will of Fire in all things to be a tolerable second best to living according to the letter of the scripture.

However, multiple comments from those with long-term ties to the Hagoromo suggest that the events of the past year have been pushing the Hagoromo towards greater fanaticism.

Assuma: ok i believe you.
If we had legally committed treason, Hazou would have been executed. It's impossible to commit legal treason and live. Ninja villages be like that.
Yea that's the point. We are able to get cleared of treason because we are incredibly important politically. We can face down the tower and suffer no consequences
Most regular ninja would be dead, yes, most Clan Heads? Probably not IMO. We have a lot of allies, but we burned a lot of political capital on the Itachi thing. I'm not confident we'd be able to do it again. Repeatedly committing borderline treason will get Hazou killed eventually, it's not something that has no consequence.

Do you have a link to the intel on this scroll? I completely forgot about it

Here you go

The Kraken do not currently have a Summoner, nor have they had one for four years. Their most recent Summoner was a boy named Shunki who lived in that big city way the fuck up in the north of Lightning. He inherited the scroll from his father after the father apparently died of one of those illnesses that you humans are so subject to.

The Kraken Scroll was also a good option. Jiraiya's notes included contact information for several mid-level Yakuza throughout the Land of Lightning, as well as an assortment of farmers, charcoalers, tanners, and other ruralites who would give shelter, a meal, and a bit of gossip to the occasional passing traveler. Not agents per se, but they provided an easy way to get from point A to point B discreetly and gather some minimal intel on the way. There was also a map and the Gōketsu were satisfied that they'd identified the village wherein the previous Kraken Summoner had lived.
