[X] Action Plan: It's Kinda Sorta The Other Plan But With Shopping and Socializing

Morning:

  • Show new letter to J:
    • Conclusions (?):
      • Letter #1 was deliberately leaked through courier. Implication: Courier #2 secure.
      • Options: hide Letter #2 and court Ami, or use Letter #2 and drop it.
      • Ami might prefer the former since Letter #1 was so aggressive.
  • Talk with Keiko and Noburi:
    • The second letter. Pre-empt concerns, this one's 'good' news.
      • Get their input.
      • Carefully ask Keiko's thoughts on meeting again.
    • Would Keiko like planning help for the finals?
      • Yes: Do your best.
      • No: That's totally fine.

Afternoon:

  • Once Jiraiya returns, discuss situation (include Noburi and Keiko; high-OPSEC):
    • How long before we leave Mist?
    • Second meeting with Ami. Should it happen? If so:
      • Seek an honest answer on if she's in danger/wants a political marriage.
      • Need better OPSEC. A walk across the bay and a picnic?
      • We're a bit shaken from recent events. Any advice?
    • If Jiraiya approves, send a letter. Contents:
      • Decline the favour.
      • Set up the second meeting.
        • Place: "near" a random restaurant.
        • Time: tomorrow? (Jiraiya's call.)
  • If Jiraiya allows us outside:
    • Watch finals.
    • Verify Ami's story (if time permits).
      • Persuade Chouji to do the following restaurant sleuthing for us. Meals on us.
        • Check this with Jiraiya beforehand.
      • Visit restaurants. Inquire about their history, then ask about:
        • Connection between Byakuren's Cookbook and Yukizome's.
        • Byakuren's Cookbook serving large groups of ninja.
      • Byakuren's Cookbook: name-drop 'Ami' for regulars-only menu.
  • If anyone talks about Hazou and Ami: no comment.
  • Invite Ino on a shopping trip!
    • It's the Exams! Try multinational markets.
    • Spend a third of remaining December allowance on clothes.
      • We trust her to pick nice outfits.
      • She can grab some things on us, as thanks for the help.
    • Spend another third expanding wardrobe for potential disguises.
      • Buy commoner's outfits from various countries.
      • Bargaining:
        • Joke: Our friend here is driving us bankrupt!
        • Can you throw in some practical clothes from your country at a discount? Ninja go through many clothes, you see.
    • Structure route back so you pass by the blacksmith near the Mizukage's tower.
      • Thank Ino, the help was much appreciated.
      • Money was tight growing up, so you're bad with fashion.
      • Reminisce:Tell her how you used to take bets to jump onto the Mizukage tower as a kid to help pay the bills. Guess that's far in the past.
        • Keep any bloodline details out.
        • Expression: Thoughtful, Musing.

@MMKII So just wanna be clear, as the plan stands it implies that we go on a shopping trip with Ino even if Jiraiya doesn't let us go outside?

No, that was just SV fucking with me when I tried to save my last round of edits last night.

I'll reformat the entire thing without the ghost bullet points later, when I'm at a keyboard.

We gonna have a contingency of what to do when Ino derails our shopping trip as she won't do? Or are we just fine with his default response to unexpected social situations? :V

INO: So Shika told me you broke Keiko. What did you do?

HAZOU: I LIKE CIVILIANS, SOME OF MY BEST FRIENDS ARE CIVILIANS. ALSO YES, YOU ARE RIGHT PLEASE TELL ME EXACTLY HOW I WAS WRONG SO I CAN AGREE.

INO: ...you could have just said you didn't want to talk about it, you know?

Voices in Hazou's Head: this works?!

She had just been betrayed by one of the eight people she trusted
I am confused when it comes to this chapter. You told us that helping Keiko plan would have to happen before the letter crisis timewise, indicating that this could result in more harm being done to our relationship with Keiko. Yet the chapter reads as if all of it happened after.
Is this our responsibility to solve?
That seems like an irrelevant question to me. We should ask if it is a) in our power and b) in our interest to solve. Interest here being in the loosest form of "is Hazou interested in seeing a solution happen".

Otherwise we can just as well discard all of Uplift, because the welfare of civilians from foreign nations is not the responsibility of Leaf genin.

But seriously though, @MMKII.

Please do add some safeguards here to not discuss Keiko or other sensitive topics like Ami or politics in general. We are currently juggling some pretty big secrets and we are actively seeking out a social spec character to hang out with. If she starts to push, tell her in no uncertain terms that we do not want to discuss this and just want to have some fun shopping with a friend. If she won't accept that, excuse yourself and leave.

Wait, what? I'm supposed to be shouting impotent righteousness into an uncaring void. I'm not trained for this. You're stepping on my shtick, man.
Hey! I was constantly listening to you! I implemented your Ren Iron Nerve seizure idea, I had us go commission the ^_^ stamp from a professional, I was supporting gambling, and I implemented both of your tournament fight ideas (the firestorm and the diplomacy ones (but only one person voted for them so I suppose I can empathize))! I resent the implication.
I'll reformat the entire thing without the ghost bullet points later, when I'm at a keyboard.

No ghosts (except, I presume, the Sunset Racer ones, who assuredly haunt Team Uplift to this very day), wordcount-optimised, and also:
  • Has us check the Ino trip with Jiraiya.
  • Specifies that we're checking the Byakuren's Cookbook Ami name-dropping personally, instead of presumably informing Chouji of something he really shouldn't be informed of.

Begin screaming.

I suspect you are heavily underestimating how sincere the people who disagree with you are being. I'm not making a specific point here other than to be careful about your theory of mind.

You seem to be misunderstanding me. I don't believe anyone is being insincere about what they're writing, I'm saying people are thinking about this situation all wrong.

I am confused when it comes to this chapter. You told us that helping Keiko plan would have to happen before the letter crisis timewise, indicating that this could result in more harm being done to our relationship with Keiko. Yet the chapter reads as if all of it happened after.
Timeline:

1) Hazō gets back from the date; helps Keiko.
2) Letter arrives; Keiko freaks out.
3) Debriefing.
4) Keiko has her afternoon match.

You could have done something to Keiko at 1 that would have affected her reaction to you at 2. For example, "Hey, Keiko, here are some ideas which we spent all of this morning working on" would turn a lie by omission into a lie to her face.

Uh, you did catch that Keiko still hero-worships her sister, right? Trying to convince her that her sister is not a good person while we're still in the doghouse with her is not a good plan. As for "painstaking calligraphy" - the Iron Nerve makes physical gestures perfectly reproducible, and therefore makes it possible for us to dash off notes that look like they took hours in about five minutes. It's not a good gesture to make towards someone already suspicious of us.

Note that you still have to have written the note that took hours before you can reproduce it in five minutes.

I did have some interesting thoughts on using the IN to improved our general speed at certain tasks.

Ex1: If we have Hazou create a phonetic alphabet that doubles as shorthand and have him practice writing each individual character realllllly fast for a few days, we can just chain these together to write the whole message faster.

Ex2: If we have Hazou practice making the handsigns for his favorite jutsu reallly fast and saying the technique name reallly fast, that might work to help him cast things faster too once he has a really good one down. Though that might require some work practicing to mold the chakra at a high speed or something.

Not that I am trying to armwrestle anyone into implementing or even agreeing with the above at the moment, but its an interesting thing to think about, and we could perhaps make these little applications of the IN into Stunts down the road or something that require a decent amount of training/practicing to pick up, so that its less of a balance issue.

Re: Not talking about sensitive stuff to Ino.

@Tua

Can you add some more definitive language? Because if I am reading it correctly Hazou will deflect twice and when she asks a third time then what happens?

Precommitting and letting her know in advance that we are willing to walk away will protect from both social manipulation that sounds good in the moment ("Hey, if you tell me I could help and talk to Keiko for you.") and repeated badgering.

It's already past deadline, I believe.

Likely just becomes more insistent in his deflections.

Remember: these plans are not psuedocode. We just treat them like they are most of the time.
