Mari sought Hazō out in private in order to point out that at some point, someone:
  • ...is going to ask Hazō something related to the EM nuke, and...
  • ...the person doing the asking might be from Leaf or might be from Akatsuki or etc, and...
  • ...the question might be related to 'hey, what was that hell storm in Leaf?' or it might be 'any idea how Isan got wiped off the map?' or 'any idea who wiped Isan off the map?' or something entirely else.
  • HAZŌ NEEDS TO HAVE AN ANSWER PREPPED FOR SUCH QUESTIONS

That phrasing "related to the EM nuke" is interesting, not "related to the storm/seal failure from a few months ago" unless that's just QM shorthand for "all things related to that topic."

I assume this doesn't go into a particular plan since it can occur at any time in any new chapter unrelated to any preparations or plan otherwise intended for that chapter.

[X] [EM Nuke] Response: Simple Preparation

Look embarrassed, comment on how crazy that was, immediately start comparing it to the other recent sealing failures in Leaf in a somewhat hyperfixated/excited stereotypical nerd-like manner of someone being asked a technical question about their favorite topic (in this case, sealing), without letting them get a word in edge-wise, until their eyes glaze-over with boredom.

No difference in the response based on who the interlocutor is.

Regarding Isan, indicate precisely no knowledge of anything having happened. Hazou was banished (or close enough), what do you mean it was wiped off the map? Does the Hokage know? Let's go tell him right now, this is very important intel about an ally! Tell me everything you know about it as we run at full speed to the Tower. (Take off full speed to the Tower without giving them the chance to argue to the contrary.) Brush off any further questions with apparent fear that if you don't tell the Hokage immediately he might literally kill you for keeping such important intel from him for even a minute longer than necessary, blather about publicly known past misdeeds which angered the Tower/Hokage/Jiraiya.

Review these answers with Mari in advance for if she agrees with these approaches and her advice on improving them.

Hazō ItsDampInHere is working on the Dampener seal, which helps reduce hand tremors and thereby improves Calligraphy and surgery.
Hazō ZappyZap is working on the Electrocution seal, which sends a surge of raiton energy (which works exactly like electricity except in cases where that would make the QMs lives difficult, at which point it works differently) into whatever it is attached to.
Hazō NotASub is working on the Substitution seal, which swaps the positions of two objects.
Hazō RiftyRift is working on the Rift Zero seal, the first in the chain that will hopefully end up prying the rift open in aid of necromancy.
XP AWARD: 30 This update covered 8 days.
A couple comments, for Hazou to fully prep for 4FSoP he needs to spend 6+1 days working on it, and for him to fully prep for RRB and Rift Zero he needs 8+1 days. So the smart thing (for him) to do is to infuse 4FSoP on day 7 of the cycle with Prime, before RRBs and Rift Zero is ready to go, since that way 4FSoP benefits from the IN bonus. Even if he didn't do that (and infused 4FSoP on the same day as RRBs and Rift Zero), the update should have covered 9 days.

Also, Hazou can't work on this many seals at once, at most there should have been Prime + 3 Clones, since each seal takes 4 training blocks. Here Prime + 5 clones are working. Hazou only has 19 training blocks, and per @Paperclipped 's ruling a couple updates ago it takes 4 training blocks per day of seal research. Since Hazou is spending 5 of his training blocks either reading sealing notes and working with Asuma. That gives him 3 additional seals to work on. Which is knocked down to 2 if he's using SSA that day since that claims an additional 5 blocks.

Here's a lovely visual aid that shows the most efficient workflow for Hazou.

Regarding the storm: "I don't know what caused the storm. As a sealmaster I know more than most the catastrophic scale sealing failures can have, especially when the failure causes other seals to themselves fail."
Oooooh! I know precisely how to handle it!

We just tell them upfront that we know what happened, then honestly share that knowledge.

But with a twist.

Hazou just got promoted to Sealing spec-jounin, right? At sixteen. He then threw a party about that, etc., his head is very big and he thinks he's devastatingly brilliant. Upon being asked about what caused the storm, or what might've happened to Isan, he's going to adopt a self-important know-it-all attitude, then talk your ear off about speculative arcane energies and physics that might've caused this behavior, how these energies may be harnessed for the good of mankind, about what he'd seen of Isan's seal tradition and how its various peculiarities may have resulted in a failure of grand scale; if informed that the storm and Isan are linked, he for sure will find a dozen potential connections between their sealcrafting tradition and the aforementioned speculative mechanics, etc. etc. etc.

He's going to be 100% truthful and honest on all of this, too; as in, those would be his genuine speculations on the mechanics involved.

It's just that no-one would understand a word he's saying. (Think the Skyslider Team's technobabble.)

Or believe that he actually has any idea what happened, instead of just being so full of himself he's managed to convince himself he totally understands everything.

It's going to be fucking hilarious.

We probably want to ensure that Isan's fate is common knowledge now, though, so that Hazou isn't expected to freak out if someone tells him about it. As in, the above tactic would let us divert suspicions about Hazou knowing what happened to Isan, but not about the fact that Hazou knows that something happened to Isan. Example: a foreign social-spec walks up to Hazou and asks him about his feelings on Isan, and there's a microexpression of guilt and horror on his face, even though he isn't supposed to know something's wrong with Isan.

[X] Action Plan: Reaching Out Again
Shouldn't we prioritize the hole in the ground with the crawly things? For all we know it might grow into a Zerg colony. Or be the place where the Gnomes from Warhammer disappeared to. Neither something we want in Leaf's backyard.

I propose reporting to Kagome and Asuma and then coming up with a search and destroy plan based on Kagome's threat assessment and Asuma's resource prioritization.

As for people to take on the mission, Yuno, Kagome, Hazō, potential backup proposed by Asuma, maybe Jin (he was a chakra beast hunting expert iirc).

Shadow clone xp: I'm pretty sure we're dialed down to one shadow clone training full time, the rest doing seal research. I can't remember if brevity/qm had fun xp get counted, so I'll do all sets of calcs to keep it easy
Hazō: .3 * 30 = 9xp // .3 * 38 = 11.4 xp // .3 * 32 = 9.6 xp // .3 * 40 = 12 xp
Kei: not buying earth Infusion, I'll leave it to someone else so the math doesn't need to be corrected

Remember how we said that we were increasing NPC agency and that periodically the NPCs might suggest issues that could logically come up that Hazō / the players might not have thought about? Behold, we are testing that idea using big red letters. Hopefully it was made attention-getting enough that no one says 'why didn't the NPCs warn us about this?!?!...What's that? Oh, I don't read the author's notes.'
Also pinging @Velorien @Paperclipped for clarification: Should this be in a plan or in a separate plan?

Make Kei and Noburi do it, with Kagome as SSO. Breaks their combat stagnancy.
Noburi's elbow deep in some Hospital stuff right now (a sickness with some Inuzuka, iirc) and ask for a month of time to help settle things before taking a break from the Hospital.

The break was to study the Orochimaru Lootboxes, but I suspect the reasoning would carry over here, too.

I agree that going with a general answer of "I don't actually know much beyond what anyone could see and the rest is classified" until we discuss it with Asuma (which we should) is a good option for now.

To clarify you are saying that my holistic conclusion of Oro's character was wrong, but that the specific points I made as evidence are not necessarily wrong?
With no snark intended: Your optimism impresses me.

To clarify you are saying that my holistic conclusion of Oro's character was wrong, but that the specific points I made as evidence are not necessarily wrong?
You literally just quoted someone saying that at every step you are wrong. How do you read every step and get just my conclusions are wrong.

Man, orochimaru is the epitome of the unrepentant monster. He does what he wants to get what he wants when he wants. If his whims are pro-social he'll be pro-social to you. If his whims aren't, he'll slaughter you and your family at the slightest excuse.

I fucking love the character and want to magical rehab him, but no man, he's one of the worst people in the setting.

Because the rest of his post focused on the holistic conclusion of oro being evil. And my priors for being wrong on some of those points (especially about kei being pessimistic and it being a dick move that oro made Mari bleed) are lower than my prior that ej either didn't use careful phrasing or missed some of the points I said

Okay, actually, can that be a viable stunt? A Sealing bonus to Deceit, Presence or Intimidation whenever a topic we can plausibly reduce to a Sealing rant comes up? That's a real thing, after all! And should be balanced, inasmuch as such reducible topics should be rare.

To clarify you are saying that my holistic conclusion of Oro's character was wrong, but that the specific points I made as evidence are not necessarily wrong?
You are really determined to clutch this view tight to your breast, aren't you?

A quick skim of your posts says that yes, you were wrong on every statement directly related to Orochimaru. I've very tired and I didn't read in detail so perhaps there was some minor thing you got correct, but everything I noticed was wrong. You were, however, correct about at least one thing: Tsunade, Asuma, and Hiruzen really should have done something about the Basement once Orochimaru was no longer there. Why they didn't is left as an exercise for the reader.

So to reiterate, a QM said you're wrong in every level, and that the people arguing with you are correct. Your reaction is disbelief and trying to get EJ to walk back what he said. The reason provided for your disbelief is that you think its more likely for EJ to misrepresent himself, or misunderstand your arguments, than for your arguments to be wrong.

CCnJ, it feels like you're dodging the point in technicalities. If it really does confuse you that particular aspects of your reasoning should be sound separate from the portion that was called out, you need to actually say that. My reading of your response to EJ was just "hey so you said I was wrong on my conclusions but most of ny arguments were sound, right"

As is, the only way for EJ to interact with that is to quote and reply to every single argument you made, which is an absurd thing to ask. It feels like debating in bad faith. Especially in response to the message where he told you the people you were already arguing against were right.

If you'd said something to the tune of "Huh, could you confirm that you meant that in regards to [Kei's pessimism, observations of cruelty, whatever] as well? It's unrelated to my main point but caught up in the mess", then your stated intent and outcome on (at least this) observers would match.

I'd phrase it more as have high priors. Since determination implies motivation.

Walk back as in retract his words, but not his opinion. Accidentally misrepresent himself. Besides that yes.

I don't know what you mean by dodging technicalities. But I'm not dodging technicalities in a bad way.
The portion that was called out was being wrong about Orochimaru. That is such a general statement that it could encompass everything I said.
I don't know why you interpreted it as asking if most of my arguments were sound. I said not necessarily wrong which does not imply that most are right.
I did not ask EJ to respond to every single argument. I just asked him to clarify whether he actually meant that every single argument was wrong.
I didn't ask him about specific examples like Kei's pessimism because I didn't want to burden him with the effort of answering specific examples.

I'm a little confused about how this sealing failure happened—are we going to get to see the research rolls? Why the hell was Hazou researching every single genin seal at once? What was even going on with SSA?
He researed all those seals at once because the plan said to, I think.
The genin seals were apparently fine, it was researching 4SoP without SSA that got us.
I believe we spent SSA on RRB and Rift Seal 0
