[X] Sealing Thursday

  • Is Kagome's dimensional detection thingie ready?
    • If so, request Goketsu sealmasters use it in their work when infusing seals and report result.
    • Distribute said thingie to Leaf's sealmasters.
  • New 3D Great Seal copy if it hadn't been done already.
  • Discuss progress being made:
    • 3D Seal attempt?
    • HOWS revision?
    • Understanding the Great Seal
  • Find rock samples most closely matching the Great Seal.
  • Need to gather more sealing lore, but how, and where?
    • Contact the SSSSS? Treasure hunters?

Delegation:
  • Mari: Sells Hazo's sculptures without pissing off the MC.
  • Gaku: Distribute sample spidersilks to appropriate Goketsu crafters for experimentation.
    • Enough money for flak jacket? Armor? How strong or weak it is? Light enough for skyslider?
  • Gaku: Figure out a more permanent Doggos bison, spidersilk, and tower trade.
    • No chocolate for Doggos or other known poison for dogs. Consult Inuzuka.

I'm a bit confused because I thought that the Will of Fire as a religion was pretty much founded by Hashirama (and then fiddled with by Tobirama), though layered upon and making use of older beliefs regarding the spirits and the Sage of Six Paths. Hashirama himself based a lot of his philosophy on those of some some hill daimyo, but at that point it wasn't a revered religion yet.

In that light I have follow-up questions:

  1. That sounds like the doylist answer, or at least the answer that Hashirama and other ninja in the know would give in confidence. Is it also the actual answer taught to lay civilians? I.e. kami are divisive spirits and even casual reverence to them risks tearing apart the sacred unity of Leaf because jealous kami delight in taking more than offered and are jealous of the humans bond shared in Leaf?
2. I was curious whether the initial founders of the religion (the first two Hokage I assume) are quoted or "quoted" to have said or done something against homosexuality. Something that the Hagoromo can point to the way religious nutjobs point to Leviticus 18:22/20:13 in the old testament and 1 Corinthians 6:9–10, 1 Timothy 1:10 or Romans 1:26–27 in the new one. Or in other words, were Hashirama or Tobirama openly enough homophobic for it to be genuinely hard to shift the Will of Fire's dogma on it even with a more sympathetic Hokage than Asuma at the head?

5. How long a history? Hiruzen was personally taught by both the second and the first Hokage, the guys who started the whole Will of Fire business. So Leaf itself isn't even two centuries old. So the Hagoromo might have claim to knowledge regarding the writings of the Sage of Six Paths, but any knowledge they claim to the stuff added by the religious reformation upon which the foundation of Leaf lies must have some different background. Either they somehow became fanatical followers of Hashirama from earlier than anyone else, or they already had massive religious influence before him (as a roaming ninja clan?) and Hashirama made some kind of deal with them, or they actually developed a lot of the Will of Fire alongside Hashirama. I assume Hazou doesn't know which of these is correct, but it can't just be time or closeness to the old Hokages. Because if anything, the Sarutobi clan would have claim to that in this day and age. So the actual question: Thinking about it a little more and based on the snippets learned while living in Leaf, what does Hazou believe to be the actual source of the Hagoromo's near monopoly on Will of Fire interpretation?
First, a reminder that, fundamentally, HDK. He has lived in Leaf for less than two years, during which he has done no research on religion, except briefly during the Hagoromo arc, because it simply hasn't been his concern. Nor is it a trivial task to get access to the various holy texts (some of which only the Hagoromo have because nobody else needs them enough to make copies), learn to read archaic scripts, find people who know the meaning behind traditional religious practices, etc. etc. Most people in a religious society just do what everyone around them does.

1) What makes you think anybody bothers giving lay civilians a justification for how the Will of Fire works? The Will of Fire is a religion originally created by ninja for ninja, which civilians also follow because their parents did, and everyone else does, and it is the one true faith and acting otherwise would get them killed for heresy.

2) You have heard no quotes that say, in plain text, "It is sinful for a man to have sex with a man or for a woman to have sex with a woman". There are plenty of quotes that a skilled theologian could argue to mean it.

3) They have a monopoly for the same reason the Inuzuka have a monopoly on beast taming. They're experts in the field who will always have the advantage over newcomers, competing with them would require diverting huge resources into catching up, and there is no reward for having an extra Leaf clan doing the same specialised thing.

This is the extent of what Hazō has learned by simple osmosis. If you want him to spend time on research you'll need to put it in a plan, along with details of how you want him to research -- what resources will he pursue, etc.

Even aside from the long-term health concerns of consistently eating chakra bison meat, I'd be worried about the environmental concerns: we nearly extirpated the bison from its natural habitat in OTL from overhunting, after all.

We need to:
* Ask Tsunade about whether we should have any concerns about long-term consumption of chakra meat, taking into account her experience both as a medic and as a summoner. (If she calls us an idiot for feeding konoha's citizens chakra meat, we can reasonably point out that it was a better alternative than starvation, but naturally immediately desist from the trade.)
* consult with cannai about bison population dynamics and overhunting risks.

And then, finally, make decisions about how much bison we want to buy, and in what proportion we should be selling to the tower or the spiders.

In unrelated news, being able to sculpt rock like this should give us the ability to create microchips (silicates being, naturally, a kind of mineral). MfD GAI project when?

I assume that the Bison meat sale only has a minor impact on clan finance, for a scale of from "tiny", "minor", to "major"?

It may has multiplicative effect on the economy at large, however.

I'm under the impression the bison meat is more of a supplement to diets rather than the only thing people are eating. Also, Cannai implied it was nearly impossible for them to hunt the bison to extinction bc of how many there are. If it becomes a problem he can just tell us. imo we don't need to have all these meetings about it

Gaku said that the civilians of Leaf are eating better than ever before, which suggests to me that Bison meat are more than supplemental, but a substantial part of the civilian diet.

Well I'm sure it is substantial going from 1000 calories per day to 2000 for example, but that doesn't mean they're on an all-meat diet

That's... a really good idea.

We can provide them to Tsunade for medical use free of charge. Merchant council can't say a damn thing about us doing that, or she would have some things to say to them.
I think that we should first explore whether chakra scalpels are a thing. I believe that the rate limiting factor in medical jutsu is control and not reserves, so if they have a good working solution then this might not be useful.

Rejoice, for Haru's sheetening is at hand!

The QMs are happy to approve the Paperclipped version of Haru's character sheet, subject to the following amendments:
  • Due to the nature of his punishment, Haru has not been receiving XP as a ninja, and his total should be adjusted downward to reflect this.
  • Haru's Cracking skill is higher than it needs to be given his heavy combat specialisation, and should not exceed 3.
  • Haru's Chakra Reserves are lower than they should be for a ninja at this stage in his career, and should be raised to 20.

@Paperclipped Heads up, but could you add "+Y3" to Haru's "Unspent XP" equation (in C3)? This should allow it to account for spent Yamanaka XP.

Also @eaglejarl @Velorien Did you still want us to work on Haru's Aspects/how to use them, xor did you already have that planned out?

@faflec , O Mighty Loremaster, or anyone else who wants to chip in, the QMs require your aid!

The rules for the MEW jutsu state:
Multiple Earth Wall creates [Effect] granite prisms of total volume 1 m^3, with minimum dimension 0.25m along any one side, which must emerge from a surface the caster's chakra can reach.

If this surface is the ground, the prisms produced by the technique are actual granite. Otherwise, the resulting constructs dissolve after about 30 seconds or when shattered.

I believe this is out of date and the rules are actually:
  1. Can come from a surface the caster's chakra can reach
  2. Can come out at any positive upwards angle
  3. Is permanent if it emerges from the ground or from a MEW that is permanent
Could someone please confirm this for us?

Multiple Earth Wall
  • Earth Maneuver
  • Effect 1:AB (10, 30, 60, 100, 150...)
  • Duration +2 (Half-minute, 30)
  • Durability 4 (82)
  • Range 0 (Caster zone, 0)
  • Speed 1 (Standard, 0)
  • AOE 1 (Melee, 20)
  • Adv: Conditional Permanent (10)
  • Adv: Restricted Reflexive Casting (20)
  • Adv: Adjustable Casting Time (+10 + [Instant +10, 0, Half-min -10, -30, -60, 10 mins -100, Half Hour -150 (max)])
  • Dis: Cooldown = Cast Time, min 1 round (-10)
  • Dis: Max Effect = ACT steps, min 1 (-10)
Totals
Strain: 152 + Effect(10, 30, 60, 100, 150…) + Speed(+10, 0, -10, -30, -60, -100, -150)
CP: (33, 37, 43, 51, 61...); Elemental Source (-2); ACT (+2,0,-2,-6,-12,-20,-30)

If a user has at least one unused Supplemental Action during an initiative phase, the user can reflexively cast a substantially scaled down technique to e.g. defend from incoming ranged attacks. Casting the technique reflexively:
  • Adds 10 Strain (+2CP) from Adjustable Casting Time
  • Reduces the range to melee of the caster (-1 Range, -20 Strain, -4CP)
  • Always produces a chakra construct (lose Adv: Conditional Permanence, -10 Strain, -2CP)
  • Reduces the duration of the chakra construct to mere seconds (-1 Duration, -20 strain, -4CP).
Overall, this cuts 40 Strain (8 CP), bringing the price to 25(23) CP. In addition to narrative effects at QM discretion, the user gains a Tag on a newly created environment Aspect for defense.

Learning the first level of this technique requires Stunt: Apprentice Earthshaper (44 XP)
Prerequisite: Earth Chakra Affinity, training from someone with Stunt: Master Earthshaper
Yes, MEW can come out of MEW, but it must always be at a strictly positive angle. (0 degrees = horizontal, +90 = vertical, -X angles down)

Should be done!

@Paperclipped Haru's punishment started Chapter 449 (not listed in the timeline, but my understanding is that it is a 1-day update), and I don't think he should be receiving XP from that.
