The voice of fear screamed 'Too late, too late!' in the back of his mind, alternating with the voice of shame that bellowed 'Fool! Why did you not think?!'

You know what would make him think of himself as a fool, what he might think is "too late"? Realizing that the pangolins are able to track Naruto somehow. Exactly how I don't know, but there's my thought.

Are we draining the pangolins in our plan?
Doesnt matter.

Its something sufficiently bad( that we may or may not even be doing or that could plausibly happen) that hes willing to risk bricking the whole exam for it, so that must mean its extremely bad even on the one off chance its happening.

I DONT think that its related to any Wakahisa low hanging fruit (the water poisoning thing should be obvious? This is historically something the clan should have noticed at least, and thus informed Noburi about.)

However its entirely possible that its some weird Pangolins thing thats very problematic. Like them using Nature chakra. Or another Summoner being present.

Is it the fact that Keiko is paying for the Pangolins with chakra that isn't "hers"? Would that interact weirdly with the summoning? I vaguely remember that concept appearing in a fanfic somewhere.

So that Nature chakra + Wakahisa interaction theory, where was it mentioned that summons consist of Nature chakra anyway? I thought they are using generic chakra constructs as their shell and some of them can use Nature chakra techniques in addition to their bog standard techniques.
(And none of our summons were explicitly mentioned to do so.)

That's how I remember it working in canon anyway.

@eaglejarl Will there be an update tomorrow as well, or...?
Greedy! What, you aren't satisfied with getting the update a day early? Yeesh.

1. Did we get QM confirmation that Noburi knows how to cure water poisoning?
You did not.

2. Has there ever been a QM ruling about how processing too much chakra in a day is bad?
If by 'processing too much in a day', you mean 'without ever hitting exhaustion or going over your capacity' then no, there has not. Then again, it's never been relevant before....

3. Are there any instances of that happening in canon Naruto? The closest I can think of are the Eight Gates, but those operate under a different mechanism than chakra water.
If there are, I've never read/watched the relevant parts of the manga/anime.

4. Are summons internal chakra systems based on nature chakra or processed chakra? I'm pretty sure that its processed chakra like humans, IIRC nature chakra comes from rocks and trees etc.
Nature chakra. Pantsā told Keiko back when they first met.

5. If summons DO use nature chakra, is that true in the Human Path or only the Summon's Path?
HDK

6. How fast does the petrification via nature chakra happen?
HDK

7. How permanent is it? IIRC the grand-toad-parents were able to whack Naruto in the head to stop it in canon, but they were close by. Can they only do this on the Summon's Path for some reason?
HDK

well @eaglejarl this update has stakes and is interesting so well done.

Also we need to figure out a way to keep Team Kurenia from making it to the tournament to insure our slot.
Two thoughts on this. 1 we goad Kiba into demanding that his team takes part in the assault on us. 2. we use the infiltration specced members of our team to pull a lizard breath and poison them in between rounds

Yeah, given that he's literally substituting to get there faster (and jumped out a window instead of running to the door), I don't think this is Naruto. This is something that's going to kill someone in the next five seconds if it hasn't already.

(Hi, I'm new!)

Probably not the thing Jiraiya realized (dashing off wouldn't help), but...

This should result in Team Asuma as the top squad in the Exams, followed by the nine current members of Red Team One, with a handful of the other top scorers mixed in if they are red team tonight and manage to evade your hunt. The six non-Team-Asuma members of my current group will rank below the twelve of us but still above most other contestants.

"After the event is over, those of you without the chakra or relevant skills to fight in the tournament"—he looked pointedly at Ikemoto—"will announce that you are dropping out. There are three members of my group who will definitely drop out, and I would assume two or three of you would do the same. This means that the rest of us are clinched for the tournament and can settle our final rankings in the arena."

Shikamaru sighed. "Kurenai's score is secure due to their performance in the second and fourth events, so long as they eliminate their Blue team swiftly and avoid further conflict next round. Hyuuga in particular cannot risk being injured and knocked out of the tournament."

"Wait, does that leave space for us to get into the tournament?" Noburi asked, concerned.

"...barely," Keiko answered distantly after a moment. "Between Chinin, Kongou, Mugiwara, and the number of solidly performing teams from Mist, I am confident the only way we send nine Leaf nin to the tournament involves making Nara's plan work.

Jiraiya raised a hand. "Uh-uh," he said. "The bet is whether or not they're in the top sixteen when this event ends. I'm not losing out just because they get sick or injured during the training period."

Was Keiko saying we "barely" get into the tournament assuming people drop out (which is to say, we wouldn't be in the top 16)?

People who are supposed to be going to the tournament, or getting the opportunity and then dropping out:
  • (3) Team Asuma
  • (6) Rest of Red Team 1
  • (3) Team Uplift
  • (3) Team Kurenai
  • (6) Rest of Blue Team.... 2? (the one Team Asuma belongs to)
  • (?) Anybody else scoring very well?
I tried to order them, but I'm not sure it's right...

In canon when you summon (e.g., a Toad) the Toad is actually there.

Keiko's been using Noburi's chakra for summoning pretty much ever since she had a summon that isn't Pandaa, so you must be thinking of a different fic.

There we have it folks

But even THAT isn't that bad because it's not as if were draining the summons and I doubt any other Wakahisa in the event are going to have the ability to drain our summons fast enough that it matters. Realistically Jiraiya is probably just going to shadow us to see if anybody got fucked up and since he's an infiltration specialist (and a Kage level ninja) no one will detect him.

I'm a bit more concerned about how we don't know for sure if Noburi can cure water poisoning

*next ten minutes*

NOBURI: Hazou!?! Why did you just look like you had a seizure?!

HAZOU: Uhhhh its no problem. HeyKeikoIhaveaquestion- what happens if your summons get chakra drained by a Wakahisa? Does the chakra come from you directly or them or what? There may be more so...

KEIKO: I do not know. We could test it?

HAZOU: Uhhhhh waitImnotsurethatsagood-

NOBURI: Ok sure lets do it-

PANKURASHUN: Actually our internal chakra systems are made of-

*giant toad lands in the clearing, crushing 20 trees and a hidden proctors wooden leg*

JIRAIYA: STOP RIGHT THERE DONT MOVE DONT BLINK DONT EVEN FUCKING THINK!

So...would it actually be our fault if, say, Kiri killed herself using her jutsu on the Pangolins?
Not... "our fault", but also not good for diplomatic relations.

That said...

Noburi is able to drain chakra into the aether, correct, @eaglejarl? Can he drain chakra away from someone without it going through his chakra system? Or perhaps into someone (ie Jiraiya)?

It's also possible that the Wakahisa, due to their own unique chakra systems, are unaffected by it so long as it is not in use, but anyone who drank the chakra would be
