They can't unless it's Water Element IIRC? Or maybe they can but Noburi's VD level wasn't high enough at the time?

Which does imply that they can only drain yin, yang, and water chakra. So we might be barking up the wrong tree?

At least it makes me update a bit against nature chakra being the issue. The update would be stronger if we had an actual quote.

I don't think it's the nature chakra thing. It makes no sense for Big J to run off with his hair on fire to interfere with the exam, causing a moderate political shitstorm at best, over someone else's genin possibly dying because of their own jutsu misfiring, when he can completely offload all responsibility just by bringing it up to the other Kages.

Unless Jiraiya, being a decent human being, doesn't want an innocent genin to die. He's feeling some shame here over having not thought of something, after all.

He'd still presumably tell the other Kages; unless the nature chakra / chakra drain interaction is something he must keep secret for some reason.

Unless he's concerned that every second wasted explaining increases the possibility of someone dying, and that him heading there without delay is the best course to stop a possible disaster.

And the rational way to prevent that is to spend three seconds telling the other Kages and head off with their cooperation, instead of what he's doing right now, which is treating them like mushrooms and setting things up for a sitcom-esque level of miscommunication in the future, except with deadly kung fu wizards instead of four socially incompetent nerds and a blonde waitress.

The explanation would likely take more than three seconds.

Sure, but he made up an excuse when he could have said in the same measure, "Follow me now, and don't ask questions"

"Chakra draining summons can kill the drainer. Walksprint and talk."

Provided that's the problem. But it could be just the option that could kill Keiko. Or it might be something he's hoping he can prevent, and thus not turn into a political shitstorm. Or maybe he just didn't think of that because he's had a sudden realization and hasn't had time to optimize.

And you expect that the various personalities in that room would just do what he says without asking questions?

Are we trying to optimize an action made in split seconds?

The only example we have of J acting THIS hastily is when the Third died and Naruto got kidnapped. Given that he's survived to become Hokage, I think it's reasonable to expect a significantly better-than-average ability to perform under pressure from him. Unless whatever's about to happen is on the same magnitude of disaster as that example - which one genin dying to their own misused jutsu is clearly not.

To the first, that's entirely possible, but would be a different scenario than "random Wakahisa dies because of chakra draining Pangolins". To the second, again, speaking up is the best way to prevent said shitstorm. To the third, see my point above.

How about "Follow me, I'll explain on the way."

Besides, this clearly isn't the case that he felt he couldn't spare five seconds, since he already spent far more for coming up with and delivering an excuse, and waited with chakra enhancing his speed until after the doors closed.

His eyes went wide and he surged to his feet. "Excuse me," he said quickly, already hurrying for the door. "Bad stomach, gotta go." The door had barely closed behind him before he chakra boosted;

You all might be overlooking the fact that Sage Mode is J's absolute ace in the hole and that he may not want to disclose knowledge about nature chakra mechanics unless *absolutely* necessary.

Also that ordering around that particular group may be problematic.

JIRAIYA: STOP RIGHT THERE DONT MOVE DONT BLINK DONT EVEN FUCKING THINK!

Oh fuck, MfD has memetic infohazards.

Edit:
I am reminded of this chapter of a neat story.
"Stop," said Amaryllis. Her voice was sharp. "No one speak."

"Wha --" began Fenn.

"No, stop. No one say another fucking word," said Amaryllis. Her eyes were wide. "Infohazard. Don't speak without thinking about every single word coming out of your mouth, no nouns, keep yourself to the most common hundred words in Anglish."

I don't actually thinks it offliads responsibility. Imagine it from Ren's perspective.

REN: That piece of shit waited until my nin would be dying before smugly telling us that they were in deadly danger. The man is a backstabbing snake who is happy to kill children for no reason.

Him rushing out in a panic to stop a disaster from happening is much more believable. The other Kage would probably have a response like this:

  1. Okay, so Jiraiya is probably in the top 10 for most powerful ninja in the world, both for fighting power and political power
  2. He just, in the middle of a meeting that could determine the economic futures of all of our nations, jumped through the window and ran as if someone's life was on the line.
  3. What the bloody hell would scare him that much!?
  4. If it's got Jiraiya in a tizzy, I need to know too.
And the above goes double for Ren, since it came immidiately after a discussion on Mist bloodlines.

Edit: NVM didn't recall the excuse J gave. I retract the above analysis.

1. He could have said anything else there, that's just an example.
2. Literally any warning would be better than making up an excuse.
3. And yeah, actually -- especially if whatever it was actually merited an emergency response.
3. The clone thing is a good point also; he's not so incompetent as to completely forget that he has myriad ways of both not losing time speeding to the target area and also informing the other Kage.

Well whatever it is, Big J apparently thought it was worth concealing from the other Kage with that flimsy excuse so...
Could be something opsec related, could be needing to take a really big dump outside the city walls.

Hopefully not nature chakra for the reasons people before me have stated.

I kind of feel that it's related to the kids perhaps draining a target they aren't supposed to and getting corrupted chakra, like those cultists, or accidentally revealing Akatsuki infiltrators (that J man is aware of but not in position to counter yet) by forcing them to avoid being drained.

Re: J not telling anyone before leaving. We are going to induce a memetic infohazard leak.

Edit:

There is only one proper response:

[✓] Armageddon Initiative
