So what were the seemingly irresolvable problems that led to the getting rid of henges entirely idea?

You sure about that? It certainly wasn't my understanding, but I'm prepared to have @OliWhail and @Velorien tell me that I misunderstood something. My understanding is that everyone votes and loses points, it's just that the DQ'd people cannot also gain points.

My understanding of the rules was that people who were DQed before voting, would be taken to the barracks and not given a chance to vote. The people who were DQed right at the end (before they could be escorted off the premises) or after voting, would be given a chance to vote.

@OliWhail, @eaglejarl, @Velorien: Clarification would be nice, even if it's not actually a thing we can do anything about anymore.

So the third event was aggravating, eating away at me. I don't care that we lose, but I do care about our screw up with that tunnel thing. I believe that screwup is about something systematic to our planning process.

So still in the process of reading through the update but it basically feels like:

Some players: "Akane is useless, lets break up with her!"
@eaglejarl: "Foolish children, let me remind you about how useful and smart Akane is!"

I wholeheartedly approve.

E:
I mean... we could have pushed more heavily to exchange the money, or outright stolen it and done it ourselves in the plan.

And the proctor could have pushed back even harder and exchanged the Mist ryu into Leaf ryu just to spite us. Let alone that stealing from the proctor is just an incredibly bad idea. We did as well as we could have with the all the odds that were stacked against us.

But... but, you are supposed to be on our side. Don't you want us to punch people? Or do you want us to become politicking pacifists? Because getting DQed now is how you get pacifists and really, who wants that? Definitely not you, kind sir. You, who will passionately make the case that we deserve to reach the next stage so there will be a truly enormous amount of punching in every update from there-on.

Thread votes to talk to Akane? Definitely punching potential.

Thread votes to confess to Ino? Oh my, I didn't know you were that suicidal, Hazou.

Thread votes to find information about the next exam? Why, will you look at that, we run into bandits in the heart of Mist's capital for very understandable, simulationist reasons. Bandits who only understand the Language of the Fist and who have come to exchange cultural information with us.

E2:
And yet Shikamaru, with all his intelligence, didn't bother to go complain to his Hokage. If there were a case to be made wouldn't he have done it as it would have been far less troublesome?

Not saying you are wrong but do keep in mind that there is an established pattern for screwing with our team:
Last one to go in the Swamp, drug dealer proctor who palmed half our earnings, getting a target painted on our backs this event and arguably getting the role of a pretty obvious Jiraiya expy and getting the secret role of a traitor*.

Team Asuma got hit by only one of those things so their case is weaker.

*Does anyone remember if every participant got a full list of secret roles? Because I wouldn't put it beyond the smart Mist teams to vote in all of our team as the traitor secret role.

As to people guessing our secret role, there's dozens of roles a discriminating Mist proctor could have saddled us with, so chances are next to no-one got it right.
Add to that our enemies' assumption that we played our role out and there are no indicators towards our secret identity. Plus if we had found our partner, it'd probably have turned out to be a bottom-rated Mist genin who'd immediately sold us out. As that didn't happen, we obviously aren't recruiting a Mist traitor, ergo our guise is inpenetrable.
Instead, people might guess things like 'adult novel author searching fan' (due to Jiraiya look-alike) or general traitorous/embarassing options.

Yeah that is basically why I don't care about this arc very much. I honestly feel that everyone in the event is miles behind us. Caring about scoring well on exam doesn't have the same rush as drugging officials to change political policy. Or forging relationships with the mob. It's all just so petty. On top of that half the people think the exams are this huge important thing and I just feel like they are a waste of time
Part of the problem is that most of the things the other candidates are doing happen off-screen. Some events that may have seemed coincidental to you were in fact a result of their agency.

Our disguise in this event was palette swapped Jiraiya, on the other hand.
Not even palette-swapped. You had blond rather than white hair, and no haori, but in everything else you were entirely Jiraiya-coloured.

@eaglejarl @Velorien @OliWhail

I hope you're not planning to put us in the chunin exam "next year".
If you can survive another year, I imagine we'll be able to cover it in a single update reading, "And then Team Goketsu won all the things".

So what were the seemingly irresolvable problems that led to the getting rid of henges entirely idea?
All of the physics stuff, but beyond that, just take a minute to sit down and imagine a society where everyone can disguise themselves as anyone else at any time.

Part of me wants to have our team give all our points to Keiko and make do the tournament herself.

TBH I get the feeling Mist would make Team Goketsu coincidentally fight each other out in the opening rounds, so not much changes anyway.

This would be *ideal*. We just run some glorious prescriptive battle and then Noburi patches the victor up.

Where the victor is determined by compatability facing the other brackets but 99% guarantee it would be us.

That's basically like giving us a by round but one that somehow shows off our skills.

That was pretty dumb. I don't think we could've realistically done much better, given the circumstances.

If we're not eliminated, I guess we just punch really hard in the next event. It'll be cathartic, if nothing else.

"In the left corner, Gōketsu Hazō, late to the tournament due to presenting incorrect paperwork at the Mist gates, but generously allowed to participate without preparation time.

"In the right corner, Momochi Zaburō, who took top place in the Chūnin Exam four years ago, but was recently demoted due to disciplinary offences. In addition to his clan's signature mastery of Silent Killing, Zaburō is known for a Hiding in Mist Technique so strong that the humidity ruins all paper within the area of engagement."

Oh, another reason you wouldn't want DQed contestants to vote is that getting DQed is probably bad enough that they figure they would be eliminated and not get into the tournament anyways, so why bother with trying to earn less points? They'd no longer have an incentive to vote accurately - they'd just vote everyone who wasn't part of their village a ninja to cost them points, so as to advantage their own village's teams.

*SHRIEKING IN KAGOME* OH GOD HE IS HERE HE IS HERE WE'RE ALL GONNA DIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEFAILLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL

So, we should probably take some time to consider some things that Akane wouldn't want us to tell other people about without her permission. We need to get in the mindset of being proactive about maintaining a list of secrets to keep for other people.

Technique wise, I can think of two things:
1. Pangolin Conditioning Technique - This is a Goketsu Clan Secret anyways, as are all the Pangolin techniques.
2. Directional Explosive Seals / Blast Rings - This is also kind of a Goketsu Clan Secret as well, since it's Kagome's invention. IIRC Hazou noted that it was the kind of secret technique that a ninja would keep as a trump card, so it's definitely not something we want to expose. Heck, I'm wondering if we should consider not using even our gravel shot cone seals with the pangolin gauntlets during the tournament, just because it's similar.

Obviously we shouldn't spread Elemental Mastery around any further than needed, but we should consider that cat out of the bag. I don't know how far the other Leaf ninja who know it will spread the info, but we should assume their clan heads will learn of it. And we shouldn't let anyone else here know any techniques that Akane hasn't used publicly yet, simply because any technique other people don't know she has is an advantage for her.

Aside from that, is there anything personal we shouldn't talk about? Nothing comes to mind, but a lot of couples have secrets they don't want their significant others telling other people about.

Akane knows Flame Aura as well. Yes, she learned it in her time at Leaf, but it could still be considered a personal secret if nothing else.

She has knowledge of Skytowers and Skywalkers even though they are technically a Goketsu invention. They are, however, super-duper secrets that we shouldn't talk about ever.

Dunno if there's anything else...Hotaru no Jutsu? I mean, it is technically another secret.
