I really don't even get what the point of these calculations is. The plan said the following:

Just roll his Medical Knowledge and be done with it. The plan did this exactly right - instead of specifying a concentration and running into problems with that being wrong, or not accounting for ninja metabolism, or whatever, it left the specifics to the character. So the effects now depend on what the character did, which has a clear mechanical interpretation under FtD. I really don't see why we need to create a problem where there is none.

And I say this as someone who would be relieved if the Tipserator didn't do anything. Let's just get past the quagmire of bullshit this event has become for both players and QMs.
As it happens, I have already rolled for Noburi's Medical Knowledge. Look forward to finding out the results tomorrow.

In that case, we can use a ~4 meter cone misterator which will function as requested by using 100 % sake and reducing the AoE of the misterator.

You know, even if the tipserator doesn't cause drunkenness, the crowd of agitated ninjas and civilians would still be sprayed with some mist that smells faintly of alcohol. That would somewhat raise the levels of agitation. I could honestly see one of the civilians go "fuck this, I am not getting hit with anymore ninja magic" and leaving, being followed by a large number of other civilians leaving as well. That would at least thin the herd - hell, if most of the civvies leave then it pretty much exposes all the ninjas.

So the problem in some respect (presumably) that was exactly what happened.

However when Oli was going through some calculations to guesstimate how drunk ninja would get, the numbers were actually implying this would be drastically ineffective.

Uh, that's, like, a solid 50% of the enjoyment I get out of this thread.
I disliked biochemistry enough to go on a bender after the course and switch my intended course of study to a mathematical one.

If you're talking Physics then I agree with you. Everything after that requires too much actual data and not enough clear cut calcs to get on the money.

As it happens, I have already rolled for Noburi's Medical Knowledge. Look forward to finding out the results tomorrow.
I guess we'll see what this burns out to be.

We're fine there, as per the first article Oli linked the explosive limit of ethyl alcohol is 33,000 ppm (if I'm reading this right)

"Revised IDLH: 3,300 ppm [LEL]Basis for revised IDLH: Based on health considerations and acute inhalation toxicity data in humans [Lester and Greenberg 1951], a value of about 10,000 ppm would have been appropriate. However, the revised IDLH for ethyl alcohol is 3,300 ppm based strictly on safety considerations (i.e., being 10% of the lower explosive limit of 3.3%)."

I'm more concerned about many of the intended plans for after releasing the tipserator have a very strong assumption that it was going to work as previously expected

Clearly we should have just hit the crowd with pepper spray. Nothing could have gone wrong.

Also, I will point out that if Noburi's MedKnow roll was good enough we could have used something stronger than sake.

Rum can have anywhere between 37.5%-80% alcohol by volume, whiskey 40%-68%. What kind of booze was that bottle of Kurohige's Revenge again?

Ah, I thought the "burns out to be" was concern over a possible explosion caused/exacerbated by the tipserator. My bad

It's premium whiskey but that's all we know IIRC.
A great deal highly professional pangolin scrabbling later, Kei found herself with a nearly-full bottle of Kurohige's Revenge in her hand. Of course Old Lizardbreath would drink expensive premium whisky. He was a man convinced that he deserved the best of everything. Much about his behaviour could be understood if one considered how far the Academy was from being the best of everything if you despised children.

Eh, I'm pretty sure the results are going to be better than what we originally got. Only way they could really be worse is if Noburi crit-fails really badly and the mixture is flammable. But I think that would have to be a really bad fail, as he'd presumably be extra careful about it.

If the Tipserator simply doesn't work, I, for one, will be relieved.

Clearly Noburi knew that one tipserator wouldn't do the job and prepared multiple. Enough to break line of sight, sure, but only for a few seconds, and what are the odds of something going wrong in those few seconds? :p

I will observe that, given the team's previous experiments with macerating things meant to be inhaled (dragonfly venom, pepper spray) I would imagine that we should already know how viable the plan is.

Also if we get a redux because we decided to deploy multiple tipserators I swear to Jashin...

Even if we did 100% ethyl alcohol the issue is the the Misterators are an absolutely fucked delivery method for this. It isn't great for anything that isn't a medical grade drug/poison or on the same tier of effectiveness by percent concentration.

Yeah it was a pun. Of the metaphorical kind.

I just want this event to be over already. We're absolute tits at this first act James Bond shit

Given our track record, is that so surprising?

[ :V] Action Plan: Ripple Proof Memory

  • Deploy a dozen of Misterators into the crowd to block LoS.
  • Throw an explosive overhead.
  • Hide like a Mole back to STL, punch Shikamaru in the mouth.
    • Punch Ino as well.
    • Hug Akane.
Contingencies: If an enemy agent tries to prevent us from executing any of the above, punch them, too.

Just saying, we could have saved a lot time in the planning stage.
