I forget if our Abnormal Mental Character changes how we interact with mental jutsu or not. I know we don't have any special resistance to genjutsu, but I'm not sure if that's perfectly general?

(Those attempting Sleight of Hand without the stunt roll 0.75 * Deception.) Circumstance bonuses will often apply, positively or negatively.

We should definitely buy this to justify Hazō time hustling the Yakuza in his backstory. Also feel like that Iron Nerve should apply to using this stunt

Of course, she usually has to actually with some sort of physical attack that can be dodged.

That's priced pretty well... and it starts to build a nice repertoire of abilities for infiltration jobs.

She rolled 51, which presumably will go against Athletics. Our Athletics is...40, ignoring Aspects. I don't favor us here.

She had two aspects to tag. So we are essentially in a coin flip to make the save. Where as Ino is a huge underdog to survive Hazō beating her into unconsciousness. Overall that hypethetical matchup favors us

Proctor interaction protocol (GENERAL PRECAUTION)
  • If challenged by a proctor to demonstrate Hazou still has possession of his word half, use the following protocol in the linked post (changed to faflec link) to make sure they are genuine.
Discussion Before Bedtime
  • After finishing his meal, Hazou will talk privately with Noburi and Keiko in their room before going to sleep.
Yamamoto Haru
  • Does anyone else think Yamamoto has shown a lot of barely buried anger and appears to have a serious chip on his shoulder?
    • We all give each other a lot of shit as Leaf genin, but the point is that we show we trust each other by being open in our burns. Yamamoto is covering up genuine anger.
    • Hazou is worried that he'll attempt to pull some kind of screw-job later in the Exam, taking advantage of the enormous trust all the Leaf genin are placing each other.
    • But true to being an Idealist, rather than simply watching for treachery Hazou wants to try an intervention and see if we can get to the root of whatever has the guy so pissed off.
      • GMs, your call, but voluntarily trying to take on this difficult task in line with his High Concept might be worth a Fate Point?
    • Hazou noticed that Yamamoto tensed up as soon as Nara brought up buying the seals. Buying our way of a problem ticks him off?
  • Noburi will presumably be working with Yamamoto on more word-hunting tomorrow
    • Could Noburi take the chance to try and suss out Yamamoto's issues?
    • Noburi can coordinate with Akane; she is Yamamoto's teammate and might already know what his deal is, or at least working with Noburi she might get him to open up.
    • GMs: Mechanically Noburi has a good Empathy skill, which is what is rolled to determine Aspects. Akane is decent at Empathy and can support.
  • Suggest Noburi and Akane learn what they can, we discuss it, and then Hazou and maybe someone else tries taking Yamamoto aside for a talk before going into the next Event.

Discuss Paying a Call on the Yakuza
  • So back in the old days, Hazou played around in the gambling dens and got a 'talking to' from a Yakuza member
  • Maybe we could leverage that? Here's what Hazou is thinking:
    • The Yakuza probably pay a lot of attention to what the ninja running their village are up to.
    • Seems very possible they have information on what the other Events of the Exam are, from rumors or eavesdropping or monitoring flows of supplies around the village.
    • If not, at the very least they're probably running a betting pool on the Exam and we can find out odds they are giving for specific stand-out genin.
    • Hazou would like the team to pay a visit to some of his old haunts and see if we can make contact with someone in the Yakuza willing to sell information
    • Ordinarily selling info to a foreign ninja would be a death sentence, but in this case it's all part of the game!
      • The proctors might have deliberately leaked the information to see if anyone would have the brains to interrogate the criminal underworld
    • We have money and seals to sell... let's see if we can buy information.
  • Hazou knows our last experience with the Yakuza was... not good... but he figures the chances that some local boss would have any connection to that is probably pretty low
    • GMs: "our last experience" "not good" "connection to that" is literally the level of vagueness that Hazou uses in case anyone is listening.
  • Would like Keiko and Noburi to come with... it's not safe to move around the village alone. Other teams might try what we were trying today.
    • Suggest we head out tomorrow morning.

  • Hazou presume we'll be following Nara's suggestion to send someone in with a word half and then leave a trail of dropped seals that the Hyuuga can follow
    • Hazou volunteers himself to leave the trail... he actually has some expertise with sleight of hand and palming things
    • Note: Hazou is not particularly insistent on this if they have another candidate in mind
  • Back-up Plan Suggestions:
    • Person going in could carry a strong-smelling scent and look for opportunities to dab it on solid objects along the way
      • Scent rubbed along the way on solid objects would be harder to blow away with air jutsu or by breaking trail over water
      • Maybe wear fingerless gloves and soak the back of one glove in something very sticky and very pungent so you just have to rub the back of your hand against a tree or wall or something? Could make a good supplement to the seals, especially going into or out of a tunnel, or if they tie Hazou's hands.
      • Anyone already have such a scent or do we need to get one?
    • Not sure how tightly we'll be controlled on the spot where we're interned for the Event, but if Hazou thinks everything else has failed or they pulled some last minute trick to break trail at the end he'll try to get some party trick seals displaying specific colors of lights tossed into a high place... it should be the middle of the night, so they'll be more visible.
  • Who is going to procure the seal supply and waterproof them?
    • Hazou's team needs to hit up some in-village contacts this morning, but Noburi can tell someone else where to go to buy seals.
    • Hazou doesn't really care who buys them... whomever has some time.
  • When do we want to do this?
    • The 36 hour deadline is midnight tonight, right?
    • Suggest we give ourselves 5 or 6 hours leeway in case something goes wrong and we have to scramble another solution.
Discuss Further Word-Half Hunting
  • Can Sakura give us a couple of hours to take care of some things, and then we meet back mid-morning for further tries to steal word-halves using our infiltration method?
    • Same request would apply to Noburi's team
    • We can meet up back here at our sleeping quarters residence.
  • Hazou hopes to hit up some "non-ninja local contacts" who might know some things.

  • Hazou leads the team to one of the old dice halls he used to frequent that he knows is Yakuza-owned

  • Open with "So we're interested in what odds are being offered for bets on the Chuunin Exams".
    • Hopefully that gets us to the right person.
  • Be fairly straight-forward... we are in town for the chuunin exams, and we'd like to buy some information on Exam events and anything related (such as genin considered strong enough to have been given odds and have wagers placed on them)
    • Combination of social skills for bargaining
      • Hazou Maneuver with Presence to make a good impression and then Deceit as appropriate to lay down aspects for the others to tag.
      • Noburi uses Rapport and Empathy to make deals.
      • Keiko to reroll with her bargaining stunt as needed.
    • We are prepared to offer large quantities of explosive seals, small quantities of storage seals, and just plain old money.
    • As a last resort could do "favors" for the Yakuza, but the Team would need substantial value (like a complete rundown of the rest of the Exam) to consider that kind of thing.
    • If they have an poisons they want to sell, we could buy those as well. Especially non-lethal disabling stuff that could be slipped into food or maybe loaded into a macerator.
