[X] Hazou Research: Not Set Our Face On Fire Stupid

Oh, mobile, you make everything so convenient and inconvenient at the same time.

I can't wait to see Hazō's mom's reaction to Jiraiya adopting her son, along with everyone else. Either she would be repulsed by the fact, or ecstatic at the fact, which motivates her to defect from Mist to rescue/join her son.

Whoever is writing the plans, could you ask Jiraiya and Kagome for something like "The seal that's hardest to fuck up that you know, basically the easiest seal you know where we can tell whether it worked or not. It doesn't have to do anything useful, we just want something to minimize risk for the invisible ink test."

I mean, most likely, when Mist hears about Jiraiya adapting Hazou is when Hana is considered too much of a threat and eliminated.

So I was unable to access a decent keyboard for most of Monday, but I did spend a few hours figuring out how to process the current situation, come up with a big list of somewhat urgent questions, and be very sad that we didn't do this before coming to Leaf.

I have not sorted this by tactical or strategic relevance, but by who we should ask what, and in what order. The questions for Kabuto should be addressed shortly, but are somewhat less urgent.
For Kagome:
Where is Kagome from?
Can he identify discrete sources for the things he's just told us? (Not asking 'specific documents', just 'which department of which organization(s) were things collected from.)
Who and what else does he think are major players at the moment?
Where was the Doom Fortress?
What was up with that secret Mist installation that Irie lady in Rice also knew about?
Who was she probably, based on that shared knowledge?
What is the difference between lifeforce and Chakra?
How did the Sage and his brother get so powerful?
How did the Sage give people chakra?
Can the old form of Henge turn you into many creatures, or into a pregnant creature, given the existence of chakra ants?
Did the Lupchanz tame the Sky Squid, or did they make them wholesale?
Who is Akatsuki?
What happened with Tsunade?
What happened with Orochimaru?
Who has bases in Snow, and what for?
How do the Summons tie into this?
If neither of the Sage brothers know Sealing, how did the Summoning Scrolls come to be?
How intelligent are Lupchanz?
Kagome mentioned that some villages are trying to breed Lupchanz. Now he's said that they're in charge of several factions. It seems slightly inconsistent, so we'd like to know who's doing what, and how.
Kagome mentioned that Leaf tried breeding Tailed Beasts. Does he actually mean breeding, or does he mean duplicating with Sage powers?

For Inoue:
What was the price for Truth Lost in Fog?
Where did she get said kinjutsu?
How inherent does she think the price of Truth Lost in Fog was to the technique?
What other memory editing techniques has she heard about?
What defenses against memory editing can she safely share?

For Jiraiya:
When was the battle where Jiraiya remembers deliberately failing an infusion?
Was that battle probably visible from orbit, if you were watching for such things, or is the thing that detected him more probably chakra-anomaly-based?
(I'm assuming, at least in the second case, that the Watchers have something like Truth Lost in Fog which they use to interrogate suspects.)
How difficult does Jiraiya think it would be to make an invisibility seal for a fastmoving inanimate object that also records everything it sees?
If the Watchers have invisible skytowers and some means of communicating with them, they might only investigate incidents that can be seen from very high up.
If the Watchers have things in orbit, or just superhigh skytowers, they might disguise some existential threats as simple explosions, by means of dropping rocks on them.
Where does he think Bloodlines come from?

For Ourselves:
How did Hazō come to be?
Does he have two Bloodlines, since apparently that's possible?
Who was his father, really?

For Kabuto:
Where does he think Bloodlines come from?
What does he think Chakra is?
Does he think life is possible without Chakra?
What does he think Chakra Monsters are?
Where does he think Chakra Monsters come from?
How does he think Summons work?
Has he had the chance to examine non-sapient pseudo-summons, like the Driver Ants?
Has he had the chance to examine a Summon that was summoned while injured?
What about the body of a Summon?
(I assume dead bodies can be pulled across from the Summon Realm physically.)
3) Has Kagome ever seen or communicated with a lupchanz? What do they actually look like? When he says the latter faction is interested in destroying all who harmed their creators, does he mean they're interested in destroying all the Hidden Villages? If they're able to contend with the Watchers who effortlessly rekt Jiraiya, why haven't they already succeeded?
Things we currently lack a satisfactory explaination for:
  • Why are chakra beasts still growing in numbers across the world?
  • What's up with summons?
  • What are the different paths and do they all exist?
  • Why has Mari's eye-color changed?
See, this is why I'm actually grateful I spent so long thinking about this on my own; it's given rise to hypotheses like 'Orochimaru left because he didn't want to be mind controlled', 'the Watchers have killsats', and 'the Sage isn't Sarutobi, he's actually Kabuto', alongside that list of questions. I'm glad I read some of the thread, too, because you came up with very relevant questions that I missed.
Overall great chapter! Can't believe we didn't see the lupchanzen being Zetsu, bit stupid in hindsight... But I especially liked this detail @eaglejarl , it is little details like this that make this story great!
Actually, in retrospect, I think I figured it out shortly after that Kagome x Deidara Omake, but forgot to write it down or tell anyone. It felt really insightful, too.
PSA: Thank you guys so much for voting this plan in. This was the most fun I've had in weeks. I'm still squeeing inside about getting to write it.
Up for another one? I want a whole slew of questions answered, and it'll probably last past @Velorien's update.

Technically already done, but I'll make it clearer.

We really should have kagome working on something. I mean we can't actually use him to socialize with anyone in leaf.

Yup if we don't save her momma is going to get killed.

-but momma has to die- how else is Hazou going to unlock the Mangekyō Iron Nerve?

Well, I suppose that he should probably kill her himself. He's going to have to rip out her peripheral nervous system while it's still fresh if he wants a form which won't deteriorate. We might need Noburi's help for that.

Hey, she lost her entire clan, then her husband, then thought her only child had been executed for betraying his village, and hasn't been on any missions since then... is there any chance that she has manifested a more advanced form and just hasn't realized it yet? The drinking might even have been a form of unintentional self-medication.

As I said, he seems surprisingly okay when distracted by an intellectual project. Taking him out to a big open park full of nature with clear sight lines where he can challenge random people to Go might be a good way for him to acclimate and make friends.

>yfw Kagome inspects every single game piece for traps.

But anyways, a nice, open park is also filled with other people taking strolls and doing stuff, all of whom he'd have to keep tabs on while also concentrating on the game. Seems to me like he'd get nervous. Now, if he could trap the area around him and the spot he's playing on so that nobody can casually approach from behind him, it might work. Or at the very least he'd need one of the team keeping an eye out for him.

A better way for him to make friends would probably be to work on some projects with other sealmasters, or perhaps for him to join a wood carving club.

By and large though, the thing Kagome will need to acclimate to Leaf is time.

We should just have him hang out with scary librarian lady

Well, of course he will. I mostly want to do this just to see how the GMs are going to work, "Ninja?", into the results.

Kagome seems as if he'd be intensely distrustful of other sealmasters.

I suspect that he'd prefer an open area with lots of substitution targets over an enclosed area not under his personal control, and letting him turn an entire block of the city governmental district into a deathtrap whose entrances are mazed with explosives, poisons, and invisible knives keyed against thirty-word passphrases rotating every hour probably isn't feasible.

Simple solution - have the sealmasters do research inside his facility. He'll have all sorts of ways to make them go boom squish if they try anything.
