This is assuming that we don't spend virtually all our hours on sealing research.

Again, I would want to avoid the monomanical focus on socializing only with Shikamaru. Any of the three genins would be fine.

I'm pretty sure the Nara have plenty of ideas for WMDs too. At least, I'd be very damned surprised if they didn't. They're just smart enough to know better than to develop them. And we haven't (yet), so...
 
A little social modeling exercise to make sure we haven't missed anything.

Learning the Nara sign language:

Positive reaction: Pleased that someone bothered to go the extra mile in learning to communicate with a Nara.
Negative reaction: Using the sign language somehow offend them....because?

Seconding that we literally have no idea how difficult heating and cooling seals are. At the very minimum, we should check if Leaf already has them, and ask Kagome or Jiraiya if they are within our ability to research before trying. This goes for every single sealing idea, except ones that we know for sure are within our ability ("beginner seals" out of a textbook, or minor modifications to seals we've already mastered).

This is just basic common sense. Let's not set our face on fire.

Oh! Something kind of important @faflec Minami could possibly be Shikamaru's ex so it's probably best to avoid mentioning that she was the one that taught Hazou the basics of Nara sign.

Not saying we shouldn't do these. But @Lailoken also raises a very good point as well. Suppose we try some new unknown seal and it turns out to have a ridiculous TN, and then we fuck everything up just days before we're made Leaf citizens. How fucking stupid would that be? How much would we hate ourselves for it afterwards?

Most of these sealing ideas are pretty interesting and we should definitely do them, but there isn't a rush. We can do strictly better by getting Jiraiya's or Kagome's input if they're within our skill range, and also check if Leaf already has them or something similar (to lower TNs).

That isn't even accounting for the fact that we need to flesh out the ideas we have and what we want them to do before telling the QMs what we want to research. This alone is just begging for trouble.
 
Could we add an hour of talking with Mari at the start of the day about how to win friends and influence people? So that our automatic responses without hivemind direction will be better than normal.
 
@faflec I removed the wind clone + vacuum steps because Hazō doesn't know those things. Otherwise, I added research projects for him to pursue.
  • Sealing with Jiraiya:
    • Confirm with Jiraiya that we'll do seal research tomorrow afternoon (as he suggested). Ask:
      • Where we'd go for testing, and if we can set up proper sealing defenses beforehand (if applicable).
        • Use the Kagome Gold Standard™ if we set them up.
      • If our shopping list is OK, and (if he knows) where we'd get them:
        • If Jiraiya wants us to do shopping, we do so before heading to the hospital.
          • Invisible ink.
          • Extra (normal) ink and paper.
          • Supplies for Macerator testing.
            • Smoke Bombs: Ash, talc,...
            • Scent Bombs: Scented oils.
            • Pepper-Balls: Pepper, chilies,...
            • Flashbangs: Soft, white-hot metal.
    • When Jiraiya arrives, start testing.
      • Note: When infusing, have clones ready to Kawarimi us out of sealing failures.
      • Invisible ink seals (use the most basic seal we can make).
      • Macerator variants.
        • Smoke Bomb: Fill with ash or talc, mostly annoying.
        • Scent Bomb: Fill with scented oils or other similar materials.
          • Border patrols and other similar groups given these could tag a more powerful enemy and run, allowing more powerful teams with good noses to find them more easily.
        • Crowd Control: Fill with peppers, chilies or other skin or eye irritants.
          • Useful for disbanding/disabling groups of ninja.
          • Could provide a good way for temporary area denial with minimal property damage, or for crowd dispersal.
        • Flashbang: Fill with small amount of soft, white-hot metal.
          • Probably a bit difficult to get right, but it should fill the air with a large pile of glowing dust that is very bright for a tiny moment before it cools off.
          • Non-lethal, though it might cause minor blisters.
        • Fireball Bomb: Fill with a burning log.
          • Give Jiraiya the specs beforehand (like somewhere safe) + let him decide; show him only if he agrees.
          • Note that we already tested it and don't think it can be a world-ending application; Agent Black probably got the info from Mari-sensei earlier anyway.
          • Also note that the explosions we used are ~B-rank (confirm with Mari-sensei)
      • Research.
        • Research the beginner seals and learn what they do. We can do this while we're waiting for Jiraiya to show up in the afternoon.
        • This is an opportunity for Kagome-sensei to pursue improving the skywalker. Should only be done in a secure location though.
        • Work out research projects to pursue with Jiraiya and Kagome-sensei beforehand.
          • We need to know the difficulty level beforehand before pursuing it.
          • They might already be in Konoha sealing library, so ask Jiraiya how to look em up to avoid duplication of effort and reinventing the wheels
          • Ideas:
            • Heating/Cooling Seals. (moderate?)
            • Propulsion seal from directional explosive seals. (moderate to hard)
            • Variant of the purifer seal that suck in water and leave salts and impurity behind? (hard?)

Why does it matter that Hazou doesn't know Wind Clone or Vacuum Step? He knows ABOUT them (e: Well, Shadow Clone and Vacuum Step, if not wind clone), he's witnessed his teammate practice with them. He knows the basics of how it works.

Is Keiko going to be there? Who will be performing the experiment? It also unrelated to our sealing stuff.

It's not a "hey you should do this now" thing, it's a "Hey this is a thing that could probably work" thing.

I suspect Jiraiya either knows or knows of the technique, given that he directed Kei to the teacher in question, so.
 
I'd still like clarification on how fast Usamatsu's Purifier takes in air, and how quickly it switches. I've offered ideas in the past on how it might rapidly take in all the gas in a cone, and I can link to it later (out and about, on phone)

I think we'd have observed enough to get a guess, or just ask Kagome (who should know pretty well)

Slight alteration to the plan for streamlining purposes. Essentially told Jiraiya about the Wind Wall/Vacuum Step combo, which was the intention of the plan; instead of "testing it", which was what ended up written.
