I think I've been spending too much time on this quest.

I woke up midnight-ish at the tail end of a dream in which I was pondering Team Inoue's next move. The suggestions I could remember were "we could take another mission like last time, maybe assassinate a daimyo" (to which the response was "aren't we trying to promote political stability?") and "we could go to Fang/Claw and serve as mediators" (to which the response was "and how well do you expect that to work out, exactly?").

Then at around 4 am I woke up from a nightmare, in which my team was following a fairly well-designed MfD-style plan for infiltrating a base, successfully defeated the guards, dispelled at appropriate intervals, and then got killed in our sleep because the plan was insufficiently paranoid.

My partner says I brought the second one on myself.

I say I'm going to use it for inspiration.

I believe this brings the 'dreams about the thread' count to three, two of which are nightmares.

I've definitely had at least one dream about the thread before, back when we were in Hidden Mountain.
You said you had two? I had one several months ago about the thread posting ~100 pages of comments in a single night and me desperately trying to catch up.
Aaaand that's about what it felt like every time I'd go to sleep and wake up to 15 pages of discussion during Hidden Mountain. :p

For me, this happens with Discord, which is a zillion times longer and one zillionth as easy to scroll (or, at times, find your place in).

Honestly I halfway wish we would shut the discord just for the sake of keeping discussion in a place that has freaking search functionality. There's talk about not wanting to use the thread as a chat but people doing so has never really bugged me.

I like the fact that Discord invites input from players who don't otherwise post in the thread, but still have an interest (or haven't yet caught up but still want to contribute).

I dislike the fact that the majority of players are shut out of those conversations unless they join Discord and are available to chat in realtime at the right moment and regularly take time to catch up on reams and reams of text with low information density (and aforementioned interface woes).

Discord will very soon have search functionality; it's available in private conversations right now, but they're working out the bugs for its use in public chat rooms as they gradually roll it out to more and more chats.

Also, it's less that I don't want to use the forum as a chat and more that half the time I'm like, "ehhh, effort" when it comes to posting here. :p It's never bothered me to use it as one, that bit of motivational trouble aside.

Are... are the effort levels different..?

Outsider perspective: I've definitely put far more effort, on average, into my few posts on this thread than I do on the discord chat. There's two main reasons.
  1. On a forum, if my post contains less than my entire thought process regarding whatever I'm responding to, it feels like I have failed to communicate myself in full. In a chatroom, I'll just raise my comments as they occur to me, without worrying about compiling them or arranging them in any sensible order.
  2. I don't proofread chat posts nearly as much as thread posts.
As @Cariyaga says, there's a psychological component. Sure, I could type the exact same way here that I do there, but it would feel weird.

Disregard social norms! Post your chat-tier thoughts in thread! :p

And inflate the replies count, sir?

I doubt this is an effective way to increase readership and players. I think we're pretty much tapped out at that front.

If you want to promote the quest, I suggest posting the story archive at other sites, such as *cough* spacebattles and get a flame retardant suit for the trolls and canon lovers.

Idea: banshee flashbang kunai. You throw a kunai. All silent like. Then after it hit, BAM! The stinkers cannot hear nor see, and their balance out of whack!

Also tomorrow is the deadline. I am a bit excited, and a bit terrified about my plan possibly winning!

It'd certainly be one way we could deliver "I'm sorry for screwing up in Konoha, here have some fresh bloodlines" apology ninja :p

Why can't they see?

I'm disturbed. For the first time in so long, you guys have free reign to go anywhere and do anything. How are there fewer plans than usual?

Sure, they could see it coming, but hearing is pretty important to the situational awareness of human beings, and by extension ninjas.

With a flashbang, BAM! They can't see nor hear nor balance themselves.

Plans are virtually identical and planers don't hesitate to steal copy others' work. So, it's really only one plan.

Decision paralysis? My plan left the decision-making to team uplift.

It's good to know we don't care about Noburi's opinion. [jk]

This was actually said in one of the early chapters. The quote was something along the lines of:

"Hey, why are you making all the decisions, Hazou?" asked Noburi.

"Don't worry, Keiko is approving them all."

"Oh, okay," said Noburi, failing to notice that this made him the only one whose opinion didn't matter.

I was referring to when we did the water-run. How big a body of water did we cross then?
The narrowest part of the Hanguri Gulf, up near the peninsula.

I've actually been having dreams about the thread for months. I wake up in the morning and check it on my phone, in part to remind myself that the thing I was thinking had happened had not actually happened because I haven't checked the thread yet.

Though I can't speak for anyone else, the reason I'm not making some outlandish plan to go hunting chakra-bigfoot or something is because

A) The team hates us and is on the verge of stress-induced mental breakdown, so we need to solve the emotional issues before we can really do anything else.

And B) The Great Rebalancing has happened, but we don't know to what extent. This means that for all we know Hazou might get one-shot by genin now, so I'm nervous about doing anything at all likely to involve combat.
