I think this date has already been chosen before that. Here is a message from EJ mid-December that states Nob's ACE would be done in April.

This was a lovely chapter. It really brings together the sense of progress and completion we've been building towards all this arc.

Huh, so that's how it works. I'll admit I didn't have a very clear model of what this rune was supposed to do, but I figured it was, like, some kind of ongoing effect instead of a proper alteration of the rift itself.

Hmmm, is this going to prove a problem for our assault? It'd be really bad if we alerted them to our presence before we could start getting attacks off.
Both Air Leadening and Icarus, as well as all of the TENTATIVE mechanics we've been seeing. There's no real way to plan an encounter with Akatsuki without knowing exactly what we can do.
There are also more than a couple pending QM questions we need answered.
Not any more than we already knew and were planning around. Ten yards is, in an unremarkable outdoors environment, not going to be more than one Zone away. So yes, but the solution is more RERs rather than fixing a fundamental limitation on an otherwise ridiculously-OP rune.
I suspect us providing a concrete list would help with spoons/memory.
I think we can probably do an action plan to meet Orochimaru and receive his report of the situation before we get those rune mechanics. Although probably the very next update would be planning our attack with him, for which we need those mechanics. I'm just assuming voting will open after Orochimaru tells us what's going on, because that's usually the way it works.

- Go to Fire to figure out what the current situation is
- Priority 1: Don't get caught
- Priority 2: Learn if it's safe to make contact with Naruto, and why Orochimaru went missing again.
- If you can quickly and discreetly contact(or abduct and interrogate) info dealers or ninja, consider doing so. We need intel fast.
- Would reactivating Suzuki Yuka help?
- Naruto might be incapacitated or under extreme Akatsuki surveillance. But if he isn't, we need a discrete way to make contact ASAP.
- Making contact with Shikamaru also counts
- If you can quickly and discreetly contact(or abduct and interrogate) info dealers or ninja, consider doing so. We need intel fast.
- If you can safely make contact with Naruto, brief him on our relevant runes (Force Dome, Iron Earth, RE2.0, ninjadar, Rift Runes), and our contact with Orochimaru, then ask for orders.
- If you can't safely make contact with Naruto, report what you've learned to Hazou via 7th path, and move to link up with Hazou+Orochimaru on the way to Todoroki Shrine.
- Rice team: (Hazou, Noburi, Yuno)
- Before heading to Rice: Return Gamahebigai with the message "Received. ETA [time it takes Intel team to get to Fire +2 days]. Prefabricate and store several thousand substrate units. Can we expect Leaf support during/after the assault? Please treat Gamahebigai as comfortably as possible."
- Entrust Cannai our old notes of completed PS research and ~100 points of substrate.
- This stuff is potentially reality-endingly dangerous(!), but might be needed for reality-saving as well.
- Hold onto it in case something happens to us, but use very careful judgment before sharing it.
- Go to Rice and set up a secure (SCSA+skytower) camp ~50 miles from the meeting site with Oro.
- Noburi sky-runs over Turtle to Slug. The stakes are high enough to warrant skywalkers.
- Have Akai try to contact Tsunade and ask WTF is going on, while Noburi skywalks ready to bug out if Tsunade gets violent.
- If she's there, confirm the Leaf situation and let her know that we have strategically-transformative runes.
- If either Tsunade or Naruto are able to help for a rift assault, tell her [all the stuff the Intel team wants to tell Naruto].
- If Noburi thinks it would go better, have Kei do this instead (swap Kei+Tenten with Noburi+Yuno)
- Have Akai try to contact Tsunade and ask WTF is going on, while Noburi skywalks ready to bug out if Tsunade gets violent.
- Wait for word from Intel team.
- End the update when the Intel team gets in contact with Naruto/Shikamaru (or deems it infeasible), misses a check-in, or spends more than 48hours in Fire trying to make contact.

This plan seems like it wastes a ton of time intel-gathering when we should be preparing for the Rift Assualt. If Oro is acting in good faith this is a total waste of time and potentially compromises the mission.
"Just assume Oro will be prosocial and collaborative" isn't a great plan.
It would be very convenient if he is, but it's definitely definitely a risky assumption.
If Oro isn't acting in good faith, that completely screws the mission. So we'll spend a hard max of 48 hours checking if that's the case before we help him win the setting.

I sadly very literally don't have time to write a full reaction post (something about kids writing "you is" and thinking a question that starts with "what" warrants an answer that starts with "because") but I had to swoon at this line. He will pay.
There's lots of things we can do about it.
Most likely option is forcing his hand to play ball with Leaf. This might be showing up to the meeting point like "great news! I got in contact with Naruto, he and Tsunade are setting out to meet us near the rift!". It might mean having Tsunade show up to the meeting point alongside us. There's a lot of possible versions.
Or maybe it means letting Oro attack the rift site first, then jumping out afterwards and attacking whoever survived.
It's a difficult position, but not "give up" amounts of difficult.

Okay I have a question. One of the QMs posted a timeline of our research that took well over 2 months before we figured out this rift rune. Where on that timeline (or before or after it) did we get the message from Orochimaru via Toad?
Or in other words, How much time has passed since we got that message? I'm a bit unclear about the order of events atm.
