My lazy ass wants to nap. @Noumero I'll check over your proposal, it should be fine but I wanna make sure of it. @Inferno Vulpix Do you think we should alter the clanless statement so that it's less <defiance/manipulation>, if so how should we change it, and if not how should we prepare for it?
It's probably best to prepare for it rather than modify or remove it; I would suggest a line like "If this provokes Tsunade, stand your ground." as a sub-bullet. It'll be enough to convey to Hazou that he shouldn't back down if Tsunade gets upset, which is the main goal here.

(I feel like it's fine if Tsunade overpowers our willpower with her aura as long as we don't give in early, because then she knows that we stood up as much as we could and only capitulated because she browbeat us into submission)

Let me save everyone some time and wordcount: Mari is an elite infiltration-spec jōnin who was not interested in being caught up to. She's gone, and you're not going to be able to talk to her until she decides to come home or seek you out.

The use of "until" rather than "unless" implies that it is inevitable for her to decide to come home or seek us out, and also inevitable that we will be able to speak with her when she does do so.

So she either isn't going to kamikaze Hiashi, or she's going to kamikaze him and make it out alive!

Or you're playing semantics and assuming a guarantee that was not made. :p

So, now where do things stand? In terms of real-world history, the MfD historical period is similar to that of feudalism. What killed feudalism? The Black Death. The Black Death wiped out something like 50% of the people in Europe. Suddenly there was a labor shortage and therefore serfs had both economic value and bargaining power. There was also a need for technology to help make up for the reduced number of people -- traditional inefficient methods of weaving, farming, etc weren't sustainable anymore, so you saw rapid improvement in looms, tooling, etc. You're seeing something very similar here. The large majority of the world's best ninja just got wiped out. Remember that precedent you set about how missing-nin can be repatriated? With so many ninja wiped out in the BotG, at least some Villages are going to be actively looking for missing-nin to recruit.

As an aside, this isn't really how feudalism ended. The end of feudalism was caused mostly by the rise of professional armies leading to the centralization of military power around the state. There were also many areas of Europe that remained feudal long after the black death ended. The impact of the black death is honestly overstated a lot of the time. It was an element of the end of feudalism but was not the essential element by any means.

So... a thought. The only living "Kage" is Ren ("Kage" in quotes because AMI and all that).

So uh. Why do we need Kages again?

Can we convince the clans of Leaf to try a different method of governance that doesn't involve submission to a single all-powerful authority?
You need Kages so that there is a very clear chain of command and quick decision making regarding village threats and security.

Heh. I've heard the Black Death did it. I've heard that it was the rise of mercantilism. This is the first I've heard of professional armies, but it seems perfectly legit. Thanks for the pointer.

Well you know how it is, history is always a lot more complicated than we give it credit for. I'm sure all three points were all factors to the end of feudalism, probably a few other reasons too.

This a minor thing I've been thinking about lately, but the shunshin is a very simple jutsu that allows you to move at high speeds. In canon it's supposed to vitalise the body in a quick burst of power. Now odds are it works differently in the quest, so I was wondering if it would be possible to use the jutsu through your hands, either to, depending on how it works, push force through them or to speed up your arms

If I understand things correctly, shunshin was turned into chakra boosting in the world of mfd. After all, if you can just accelerate your movement to ludicrous speeds without losing precision, wouldn't you do that all the time? And wouldn't you be able to use the increased speed to punch faster instead of just quickly step?

@Inferno Vulpix called it. Shunshin got modeled as chakra boost.

It should be noted that "shunshin" isn't really a jutsu in canon. No one ever performs handseals or shouts "Shunshin no Jutsu!"

HIASHI: And now we go to war! *peels of skin-mask*

DANZO: All for the glory of the Leaf! *peels of skin-mask*

MADARA: And that's how you should do it, kids. *peels of skin-mask*

YUKINO: Snow remembers! *peels of skin-mask to reveal Arya Stark. Wanders off in unknown direction*

A note: I noticed the sun is already drooping into the horizon, so Mari-sensei will probably be back for dinner or something....

At 0:22+

or Naruto chapter 447 page 12.

Will the Bird ever win against canon? Stay tuned!

(I just knew you were going to be wrong about this, call it instinct)
DYK. I should mention that this is my fault, not @eaglejarl's. However, I believe my point of view is still mostly valid. This is the only time I remember this technique being used in combat, even though it's very nearly teleportation, and indeed in the link Hanzō uses it to dodge a really powerful technique. By contrast, we see a dozen ninja use it without seals or words in Episode 1 alone. Kishimoto clearly just thought it was cool.

Compare the Substitution Technique. The first time we see it, Kakashi substitutes with one of Naruto's shadow clones, causing him to believe that said clone was now Kakashi in disguise and attacking him. I invite you to ponder the implications of being able to substitute with unwilling targets.

To expand briefly and non-polemically on @eaglejarl's post on politics, I should mention that we've consciously written the majority of characters as far too liberal for the setting, especially Hazō himself in terms of his inner thinking process. Hazō doesn't have a racist, xenophobic, authoritarian bone in his body, despite having been born and brought up in a state where Yagura's equivalent of Mein Kampf is required school reading, the histories are deliberately written so as to demonise the other villages, and anyone considered a foreign sympathiser is an enemy of the people and deserving of the death penalty. Oh, and 90something percent of the world's population are subhuman and have no rights, including the right to life. Yagura's Mist is both partially inspired by, and a lot worse than, Stalinist USSR.

For perspective, it took Russian state propaganda a matter of years to convince a significant chunk of its people, probably even the majority, that the West hates Russia and wants to destroy it; that said West used mind-controlling drugs to influence the Ukrainian elections; that the instances of poisoning of prominent Russian expats in the UK are lies concocted by the enemy; that Muslims will soon take over the world due to a higher birth rate and disrespect for native laws and institutions, and so on and so forth. Even some of the most intelligent, open-minded people I know have subscribed to elements of this ideology (notably Krym Nash, "Crimea is ours").

OK, maybe that wasn't that brief or unpolemical. But the general takeaway point is that if we were truly simulationist about the characters' beliefs in this setting, it would be a vile place to live (reminder: at the corresponding point in RL history, women were still largely treated as property), and few if any of the people in this community would want to play in it.

I propose a new rule.
Every time @eaglejarl get ...faf'ed?fafleced?fafl'ed? we get +1 XP, because good GM(Or less Evil GM), But Hazou suffer for that XP, because Hazou life is suffering
Every time @Velorien get, let's use fafl'ed, we get -1XP, because Evil GM(or more evil GM) And Hazou suffer for that XP, because Hazou life is suffering.
Every time @OliWhail get fafl'ed, we get to know how a technique works mechanically, but we also get a nightmare in which Hazou is hit by said technique, because Hazou life is suffering.

Every time all of them the get fafl'ed in the span of an update, an uber boss arrive to our door to say hive(The word, because he knows about the Hazou!Hivemind) and almost kill us, because, as i said, Hazou life is suffering and it's good thing to do worldbuilding.
It could or could not be a dream.

if ALL the GMs get fafl'ed on the same exact thing...the get +1XP, -1XP, but Hazou doesn't suffer, because we did the impossible.
Of course the suffering will be dealt double the next update, because you already how Hazou life is.
It's a joke by the way, just to clarify

In short Hazou will suffer.

Also, on the shunshin.
Hanzo used it to evade a giant very very very fast thing capable that, IIRC, killed a bunch of other ninja.
So it can be that Hanzo "Shunshin no Jutsu" it's a techniche ha developed from the normal shunshin, instead of being something everyone can do.
This explain how he evaded Nagato "Go to pure land, do not collect 100" ridiculous Jutsu with a simple technique, and also why he needed to say it.

This is an excellent idea. I'm glad we already discussed this exact idea whenever it is we originally commented on Body Flicker. (pinging @faflec).

This is also an excellent idea that makes a lot of sense. I'm glad we thought of it the first time we discussed this technique way back when. (pinging @faflec some more; can we invoke the -1XP thing more than once per post?

This is fascinating to watch.

Players: Look at us munchkining every little thing we can to make QMs' lives miserable.

Also Players: Here are some rule proposals for QMs to play with. No hard feelings about how we abused your rules before, right?

QMs: No worries. Unrelatedly, Hazou has now regressed to the power level of a pre-academy student.

It's @Velorien 's subtle attempt to force us to do the whole "youthsuit propose to Ami thing to get infinite XP".

Also:

Next time we meet with Shin we use:

Shun Shin no jutsu ! (I regret nothing)

The sun was drooping to the horizon, throwing gaping shadows across the wind-sculpted snow outside the house. Inside the house, the fireplace was roaring, the tea was hot, and the stories were flowing as the kids caught Kagome-sensei up on the less earth-shattering things that had happened at the Chūnin Exams. Keiko was taking entirely too much glee in relating the story of setting Hazō on fire, when she suddenly stopped in midword, looking over Hazō's head with wide eyes.

Just to confirm, it's sunset and Mari-sensei will be back for dinner, right?

We can actually discuss things when Mari gets back.
