[X] Action Plan: Lighten Up!

Jinno has been working on something like that:

Obviously a different project and sensor, but still interesting and we already have a seal that could be triggered.

Maybe pull him into the project? (With Kagome's permission)

edit:

You're not here, you're on a mission to kill Rock people.

Heil Jashin.

1) Jinno is my vote for next adoption. Need to keep the sealing clan hegemony going somehow, plus Kagome likes him and thinks he's talented
2) I'm all in favor of pro-Jashin comments, but maybe no "Heil Jashin" please? Not exactly a great association/look. Plus, so far Jashin has been way more merciful, and led to way less murder, so the comparison's unfair to Jashin as well.

  • Possibly asks Nobs to help with Kagome Summoner Training.
  • Attempts a Resolve uncap by getting an SC to give us a Sealing bonus.

Isn't Noburi already helping with Summoner training, and that's how (plus SC) we have any time in the day? I thought that was a thing we agreed on when we were trying to make our schedule functional before the severes healed

Oh, and I forgot to quote it, but I'm confident the answer to "does Hazou think it's safe to carve away part of the intricate, extra-dimension-he-barely-understands, still (mostly) functional seal made by the sage while it's still running?" Is "Chorus of Screaming in Kagome, faflec, Hazou, and Jiraiya's ghost".

I'm...not in favor of adoping Kagome's students.

Genda, Sugiyama, and Jinno are all Kagome's students at Sealing, it would be an act of stupidity for Asuma to send them out on missions when they could be churning out explosives, Skywalkers, and other high-impact seals valuable to the war effort. Reo is already adopted. Hazou is Clan Head. We've already talked about Honoka in the past.

Contrast this to many of the other ninja on our estate, who don't have an excuse to be on the back lines and are thus forced to take life-risking missions. Adopting them is far more valuable than adopting someone else.

I have a few questions about the Great Seal. To place them in context (for readers or the QMs) I'll be clear that my ultimate goal is to determine the feasibility of Hazo getting a chunk of Great Seal stone and bringing it back to the Human Path.

The Great Seal is made of stone and sits on a hill/butte/synonym for 'elevated region'. Hazo has tunneled under the Great Seal and in fact tunneled through it in at least some minimal capacity: I don't have a quote to hand but I remember Hazo making a little hole in the seal through which he could place HOWS.

Q1: is there a clear/distinct border between 'normal' ground and Great Seal stone, or is it a 'natural' transition? (The intention of this question is to divine whether the author of the seal used naturally-occurring stone (which may have then been modified) or created/deposited a bunch of specific stone.

Q2: if we have tunneled through the Great Seal, did we notice any strangeness in the tunneling, and was that strangeness more or less apparent closer to/further away from the seal? (The intention with this question is to determine if there is stone which has no or minimal chakra flowing through it, in the same way that I (imagine!) that you could clip the blank, uninked corner off of a storage seal without compromising the seal.)

Q3: how large were our tunnels with respect to the overall dimensions of the seal? (The intention is to establish upper bounds on the amount of stone we can remove from the Seal without causing immediate catastrophic failure.)

Q4: does Hazo have any intuition whatsoever as to whether or not it would be possible or safe to carve off some of the Great Seal stone? Does he have any intuition or feeling as to whether it has eroded or suffered environmental damage - are there chips or missing pieces, or are there just cracks? (If it's withstood erosion and bits falling off then I think that the odds are low that our removing an equivalent volume with hand tools would result in a cascading disaster.)

My guesses are that the Seal is composed of distinct rock and we've never interacted with it (maybe the holes were in the stone which surrounds the seal) and that it's cracked but not chipped, but if we have shaped the Great Seal and the world didn't end then I think that opens the door to taking a very, very small piece of it extracted from an area we anticipate contributes minimally to its function back home to experiment with.

(This would also be incredibly risky, allowing us to uncap a few different skills and bringing EJ great joy.)
Expected EJ reply: you're absolutely right, forgot to apply the modifier to the timer based on tunneling through the seal.
Puppy dog summons: "I don't feel so good Mr Hazou" *vanishes in a way unlike being unsummoned, as if his very being was destroyed from the summon realm by Dragons*
Every other ninja village: summons don't answer and summoners don't come back from the summon realm. This is obviously a new Konoha plot, let's all ally to destroy them.
EJ: Also those color seals were taking angular momentum from the moon to make pretty lights. Their efficiency is dismal and now the moon is falling straight down. Get to punching already dammit.

Plan updates following feedback from @Velorien that Hazou's leap of logic connecting light and heat might be too implausible. Abandon the color connection, instead focus on all the things that emit both (reddish, warm-color) light and heat.

  • Multi-thread clones.
    • If necessary, share training Kagome with Noburi.
  • Work on Air Tunneling with Harumitsu.
    • One research cycle. If it seems safe, shorten the cycle from 6 days to 5.
    • When infusing, have an SC assist (Resolve uncap) for +AB.
  • Clone 1 researches ARS.
    • Two elements – one element releases a chakra pulse received by the paired element (receiver like chakdar), which activates an adjacent seal (relay like LBF).
  • Clone 2 researches HOWS-variants.
    • Idea: Light Relay seal.
      • When light of a certain color shines on the receiver, the seal emits light (deactivates when not shined on).
      • Fold the seal over boards and line them up for instant, low-bandwidth communication. Like signal flares, but directional.
      • Consult Jinno and Kagome about stimulus-triggers.
      • Research ASAP, if safe.
    • After a couple days, check on the below-red HOWS.
      • (SC for caution) If it seems safe, investigate inside the MEW-box.
      • If things haven't changed – is it possible that the below-red HOWS just makes heat?
      • Sunlight and firelight carry heat. Maybe light and heat are related, like water and ice.
      • Lava glows reddish, and emits heat. So do embers. So does heated metal.
      • Could heat be the next "phase" of light? Going past red changes the "phase" to heat?
    • Make another below-red HOWS. If it's the same:
      • HOWS-SC does his day's work near it (no infusion nearby!) – see if it's safe.
      • Make an above-purple HOWS (off the other direction) too, and assign the ARS-SC to work near it.
        • (Continuous UV radiation should cause sunburn and eye damage within a few hours, which should pop an SC)
    • If below-red HOWS is safe and stable, make a Light Relay seal that activates on below-red. Test whether the Light Relay works with it.

plan accounts for this

it was nontrivial to change from visible color to color, gamma rays are several orders of magnitude higher wavelength
It was nontrivial to change from visible color to color in one direction, we don't know if it will be equally as difficult in the other direction.

tl;dr AIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Hey. Speaking of training Kagome for summoning, doesn't that take a lot of time? Will we be able to do that on top of all our normal responsibilities AND sealing research?

relative to jutsu like Firballs
One of the less mentioned applications of the Wood Release.

@eaglejarl did anything go wrong with the clones who where doing research as well?
You weren't doing infusion, only prep work.

Your guesses are 100% accurate. Hazō has tunneled through the rock of the butte itself but never through the Great Seal.
Hey. Speaking of training Kagome for summoning, doesn't that take a lot of time? Will we be able to do that on top of all our normal responsibilities AND sealing research?
You've been using Shadow Clones a lot.

You're right, it's "Praise Jashin" and "Heil Pantsa". Got that mixed up.

My guesses are that the Seal is composed of distinct rock and we've never interacted with it

The Great Seal structure is going to be a silicon lifeform or something like that. Basically a Dragon jinchuriki.

Q1: is there a clear/distinct border between 'normal' ground and Great Seal stone, or is it a 'natural' transition? (The intention of this question is to divine whether the author of the seal used naturally-occurring stone (which may have then been modified) or created/deposited a bunch of specific stone.
Yes. The greenish stone of the Seal proper is completely and sharply physically distinct from the reddish sandstone of the butte.

Q4: does Hazo have any intuition whatsoever as to whether or not it would be possible or safe to carve off some of the Great Seal stone? Does he have any intuition or feeling as to whether it has eroded or suffered environmental damage - are there chips or missing pieces, or are there just cracks? Hazō is very confident that taking a chunk of of the Seal would be a huuuuuuge mistake.

Wait wha-

YOU'RE POTENTIALLY INTRODUCING GAMMA RADIATION TO THE AREA ARE YOU CRAZY OF COURSE YOU'RE CRAZY WE'RE ALL GONNA DIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Updated to make it clear that we're testing the invisible-light seals at different, isolated testing sites.

wait, we're showing Harumitsu shadow clone?
Updated for SC OPSEC -- take no risks, right? Extra clone for uncap attempt now works on Light Relay (as we want that done within a few days to test the HOWS-IR.)

@faflec because quoting a post without words is silly:

So, being a clan ninja doesn't mean you don't go on dangerous missions (see: Akane and Yuno). It means we can give them some of our clan shinies, like the rocket boots (which did 100% save Haru a dozen chapters ago), though we always have the choice to make those free access if we want to, or negotiate with the KEI about it. If the goal is to find ninja without something to make them not fodder (which was previously desired in the thread), most of those are less likely to have someone in the highest risk bracket. Technique hackers, sealsmiths, and T&I specialists are all less likely to be thrown in the grinder. If the desire is to find someone with a distinct specialty AND who's at higher risk, that's fine, though examples would probably help (Yuno with beast slaying, I suppose).

With all that said, I still think we should adopt Kagome's sealing students, or at minimum Jinno. Here's why:

1) Kagome is already comfortable with them, even more than the average estate ninja he's already reluctantly caring about. Much easier to integrate into the clan when the most socially volitile (other than Mr Killbox sometimes) is already down with them and likes them.
2) We want people with specialties, and they have specialties. The fact that we'll help support ninja getting training, and then also still adopt them if they want, sends a great message.
3) It makes a great contrast to our own apprentice, for when we want him to eventually defect. Seeing Kagome's students be cared for, taught, and then adopted and welcomed into the clan might help him see how much better it is on the Goketsu side of the fence. Since they're someone who should be less advantaged, but otherwise similar (younger sealing student taught by the same family), who are ending up better off because they don't have the Hags holding them back, I think it could paint a really sharp picture.
4) We have a Lot of sealing projects on the go. Like, 3 in the Queue right now, which does not include the backlog, or the Dragon in the room. Kagome is still going to be busy for a little while with Wayshredder training, and after that with being a new summoner and doing great seal stuff, so having someone who can help us do research who's also allowed access to clan secrets could help us makes progress when the next Kaiju makes us put everything on the backburner again.
5) Picking someone who isn't living on the estate, or working hard, makes us look bad. We ran into that last adoption round. A lot of it is because named characters, especially those from canon, are more likely to be stuck in our brains, I get that. But unless we're going with "three until-just-now nameless ninja on the estate", this is the best we get. The reason it's a district point from #2, is that this way the QMs don't need to generate a ton more candidates for us to not end up inviting, since they're made and everything.

My stance on adoption is that we should optimize for what will require the least amount of drama. That and just let Noburi handle it and ignore it completely

I don't mind adopting Kagome's sealing students at some point, but given that we are in the middle of a war Jinno et al are far less likely to die than our other estate ninja, who we do have a responsibility for. Jinno's already cozy with us and we can still do sealing with him, and that's already a good showing for Harumitsu (side note: I kinda don't want Harumitsu to defect to our clan so much as I want him to gain power within the Hagoromo/take it over/reform it).
