In the interest of being ambitious, while we still don't know how many of our clanmates were gone on mission and for how long...

SC Training: Akane and Kei are getting +1.5x (remember, Kei needs to raise CR before she can get the 1.6x her Resolve stat should allow for), Hazou is getting 0.7x. Hazou's Consequences cleared on the 19th, so 7 of the 8 days were good for SC training, base XP 28 for Hazou, 32 for the others.

Kei: +48 XP
Hazou: +19.6 XP

I'll update this once we know if Akane and Kei went on missions, and if so for how long.

Edit: I didn't realize Hazou has Resolve 29 instead of 26, he should get 0.7x instead. Updated.
Edit 2: Akane is doing back-to-back missions and probably doesn't have the time for SC training. Removed her bonus.

[X] Kei SC SOP: Snowflake Season
  • Effective immediately:
    • Kei to reduce training by 4 blocks.
    • Snowflake gets 12 hours of continuous free time (get a job!)
  • Short term training priorities:
    • Kei and Snowflake to continue working on mental resilience (Resolve 50 -> 62), with chakra reserves in tandem to support (Chakra Reserves 27 -> 32).
    • If Snowflake is okay with waiting a little longer with 12 hours a day, a little more work (Resolve -> 68) yields long term benefits.
    • Once mental resilience is improved, training Shadow Clone and basic awareness should be productive (Alertness 31 -> 40, Shadow Clone 40 -> 50)
    • Add an extra hour of clone time (Resolve -> 63/69)
  • Effective once SC duration improved:
    • Kei to reduce training by 5 blocks.
    • Snowflake gets 16 hours of continuous free time (get a second job! or a girlfriend!)
    • (sometimes, due to pyramid reasons, Snowflake may get 15 hours of free time -- e.g. at Detour 3 when Kei is stuck at Resolve 89).
  • Long term training plan:
    • Will need to improve chakra reserves to support improved Shadow Clones (CR 32 -> 40)
    • Once alertness is improved, previous plans hold (Alertness 40 -> 60, Resolve 69 -> 72)
Given that today is Snowflake's birthday in character, it could be cool to have the Vel plan be having the Hazou who just saw a friend and comrade die give the corrected training plan to Snowflake (along with birthday gifts -- something room-related?)

Personally I don't trust Leaf to be able to make sure that people they grant priceless power ups to will stay allied to them. I mean look how bad it worked out for the First Hokage

The Otters are pretty much surrounded by Pro-Leaf clans. And Sand is pretty much not a major power at this point.

If they actually get 10+ Scrolls in the next few years? Good for them. Rock had zero and stayed a Major nation.

I am not afraid, bring it bitches.

I mean... I'm still convinced that the Earthshaped Friendship Bracelet is an amazing birthday gift.

If Leaf gets it themselves and just out of nowhere goes 'hey by the way Sand we've decided to give you a legendary artifact of incredible power as a friendship gift', imo that's a lot better a diplomatic play than 'hey Sand, we got a lead on a legendary artifact of incredible power in your backyard, wanna come help us dig it up for you?'

The latter play is still good, but the former is a fair bit better if we can manage it.

We can walk into Sand, tell them what we know and work together until we find the scroll. It's really that simple, meanwhile we could continue searching for one of the other scrolls or just do whatever.
If they get uptity in the next ten years, there is always more land for the Holy Pangolin Empire (sponsored by Goketsu Industiries) to conquer.
I have never been more perfectly betrayed by a comment in my life.

Basically, if you can see a Dragon then the Dragon can probably see you.
Like snakes! If you're scared of a dragon, then... no, wait, that doesn't work.

Snowflake gets 12 hours of continuous free time (get a job!)
I want to see this scene!

[X] Kei SC SOP: Snowflake Season

Still hoping for a chakramechanics plan, I've decided I don't know enough about this stuff to make my own proposals but will definitely support cool tech!

[X] Action Plan: Hope for the Best, Plan for the Worst

[X] (OtterRec) Hazou, Condor Summoner, a Hyuuga, an Aburame, and an Earth ninjutsu specialist.

[X] Action Plan: Doing what the Hokage asked

1) Advise alternative of false flag against Rock as Sand ninja to provoke Rock to attack Sand/think Sand is actively supporting Leaf

2) If Hokage really wants false flag against Sand then advise to enter Sand surreptitiously using various long distance scouting measures (flying condors, sniffing dogs, Hyuuga eyes, Aburame bugs, etc.). Identify Sand ninja from a distance with reasonable expectation to beat easily (prolong fight long enough to be "identified" as Rock using Earth techniques). Don't kill, seem ruthless and be "stopped" by superior that we have orders not to kill.

Alternatively, after identifying a reasonable Sand target, get "caught" "spying" by them and escape from them. "Escape" towards Rock along the route of the Scroll's known/expected travel.

Once false flag is done, switch to fully surreptitious and avoid contact except as necessary to gather intel on the Scroll. Go to last known location of Summoner, follow known/predicted route, gather intel, and find scroll.

3) Ruri - optimize with Shikamaru and Mari, consider with them if Hokage should be informed and do so if they weigh in favor. Pass on the substance of Kei's messages to Ruri without attribution: Pangolins visiting Condor is intentional incitement/trap for Condor resistance and Condor informants may be compromised/provided false information. Hazou reached this conclusion on his own, might be wrong, but consider the harm if he's right. If Asuma was informed communicate that a well, it's not being treated as just a crazy theory by Hazou.

---------------------------
Edit: removed this section (retained for posterity).

4) Go back and tell Kumokōgō and Canabisu the outcome of the mission and what intel was gained, tell Cannai: tell him you failed to protect the pack and you'll accept any penalty he feels is appropriate, be honest and fully contrite. Do not argue with him, he will be grieving.

Better to have Akane in a mission with a Jounin and us than going alone on frontline missions.

Two questions have been going through my head recently. Why is Sand important enough that Asuma wants to prop them up with a scroll? Why did Rock not invade Sand? We essentially know that every summoner eventually becomes at least an elite jounin or essie. That's a huge card to just give away for some marginal gain. Sand doesn't bring in a ton of ninja to help win the war. They don't have a tailed beast or any essie of note left. We know ninja villages don't do really do much diplomacy between each other. Yet Asuma is considering giving them a priceless artifact.

Secondly Sand has no one who could stop Rock. They could have much more easily swept through them and conquered territory instead of poking at Leaf. I mean maybe it's do to fire having better farming but it is strange.

I think that this might be a coordinated campaign by the thinker clans. They can't let one of their members be destroyed. Maybe we should prope Shikamaru about what he thinks about giving the scroll to Sand. See if he might let some information about the relationship between the five slip

That's a good thought; I agree with probing Shikamaru about this.

However, there is more to it than that, I think. Geopolitically, having a nominally friendly neighbor to Fire makes them safer. They're at the power level of a minor nation right now, but on the other hand, Rock can't really afford to send out their S-rankers, and additionally, Sand's territory is... very inhospitable. Attacking into Wind is a LOT harder than attacking into Fire; this makes their continued good relationship with Leaf beneficial for both sides, as Leaf will not benefit overmuch from attacking them, but Sand will benefit from trade greatly, and the patronage of their neighbor.

Ohhh for sure! There are def reasonable explanations for everything. I just think it's weird that Leaf is potentially granting a priceless artifact to an ally that they should already be able to put enough pressure on to get their way. It's weird how the map of the Elemental Nations has never changed even though 4 world wars have been fought. We know out of character that the five have contact with each other and IC that it's important for at least some of them to stay alive. It feels to me that we are right on the edge of a major revelation about the fundamental nature of the world.

How do we know the map hasn't changed in four wars? We just know the current maps, no?

Sorry was meant more metaphorical than actual. What we know is that there has been no major changes to the geopolitical environment since the founding of the Hidden Village system. The Five great villages stay the most powerful even through all the wars. No one splinters into a new village or is conquered. An equilibrium like that just seems weird right?

I observe that this is something we should probably do ASAP.

Added it to my plan:

4) Go back and tell Kumokōgō and Canabisu the outcome of the mission and what intel was gained, tell Cannai: tell him you failed to protect the pack and you'll accept any penalty he feels is appropriate, be honest and fully contrite. Do not argue with him, he will be grieving.

With Sands help we actually get information on their territory, if we do most of the heavy lifting than all they need to do is give us some information and one or two experts for chakra beasts or just for the land.

The last Summoner also lived in the region, he probably had a clan or at least allies that at tried to find out what happened so they can tell us something that might help.

That way we don't have to commit a false flag and possible get dragged into a series of new problems.

Why is Sand important enough that Asuma wants to prop them up with a scroll?

They still have Chiyo, their puppets and bloodlines that could be helpful for all kind of things.

They also don't know about the Kurosawa bloodline (as far as we know), we could take almost their whole sealing Library, who knows what we could find? That's the country that produced Sasori after all.

I mean Isan was helpful and they are a just a bunch or randoms.
