Since Mari Is FOOMing we need to start trying to figure out our end game fairly soon since she will hit S-rank and be supported by multiple summoners and a jounin level seal master.
Mari needs an S rank hobby

Orochimaru's got his research, Tsunade's got medicine... if Mari could invent those therapuetic genjutsu that could be sick. Give us a mechanical way to treat mental consequences like Medical Ninjutsu heals physical consequences. Could contribute to treating potential clone sickness from FOOM

Mari (probably) can't FOOM since she didn't have SC 30 around the end of the Isan mission, and since it's been <2 months since then I don't think she's gotten her level up high enough for her to be able to.
If she had SC 10 at the time and a base XP rate of 4 per day (I'm assuming it's slightly better than Hazou's if she survived to EJonin) then that would take how many days?

Problem is, lodestones kinda suck.
Real world lodestones kinda suck. This is a loadstone created with ninja magic, that was kept as a Clan Secret until the Hokage offered suitable enough temptations to override the need for secrecy.

These lodestones could very well be far better than our own. MfD's magic system is, fundamentally, a soft magic system, after all (or a hard magic system with so many esoteric rules/exceptions that it might as well be a soft magic system to the pre-industrial deathworld MfD exists within).

Fair enough, I forgot the context surrounding that jutsu. If it's a clan secret, then it probably does do something valuable. And while a magic to create lodestones isn't that useful, a magic to create magic lodestones might be valuable.

Without that context though, I figured it was more likely the option that makes less magic rather than more.

We have civilian scholars and craftsmen. AND MAGNETS!

Ok so help out here, the list of stuff that we like to do afther we escape marked for administration:

Scroll hunt (bear, other, spider, squirel)
Project: Necromancy (rip reality a neww asshole and resurrect hazo's fathers, poor shin)
Figuring ou the what the hell was the liberator's power and how best to use it.

Couple more questions if it's not too much trouble:

Were we able to place the HOWS by tunneling alone?
Were Hornets able to use seals for suicide techniques?
Was the Condor Summoner able to reverse summon to her scout in order to confirm our reports of Dragons?

Yes.

No, they haven't learned to use seals.

No, she doesn't have a scout there yet.

Well, seems a good time as any to pop my head out of the lurky hole.

Must say that I quite enjoy this quest, thank you Velorien and EagleJarl for kitbashing the demented squirrel that is canon Naruto into something more coherent and also interesting.

Some possible musing on the upcoming flashpoint.

In regard to what possible tactics Rock might use and how they might adapt or circumvent our sky superiority, how much do we know of Rock ability in Earth element and more specifically tunnel making.

Turning this whole front into a tunnel warfare is both an easy way to cancel any skywalker superiority and ambush the most likely sky bound observation posts, and should be within rock limitation, given the Collapse and what Hazo could do alone with basic Earth techniques, as well playing to Rock advantage.

Underground fighting seems like their favored ground, plus given their enemy is the village with the most natural attunement to fire, which is a... possibly dangerous prospect to utilize underground, seems doubly useful.

And given they made the Collapse and had time on their hand and chosen the time of attack, there could be a rather exhaustive network running around for them to wage a guerrilla war, on nominal leaf territory no less.

Nothing that should truly surprise leaf, given that there no errant idiots ball bouncing around in this setting, but what possible countermeasures had being used against the Collapse that we know of? what more is possible given our knowledge?

byakugans & underground observation tunnel networks? the Inuzuka?

And what can we propose to the board should the fighting take that shape, the possibly obvious counter tunnel warfare and well known jujitsu, and of course any possible seals.

flooding? hard to do when you got superpowered ninjas who could block tunnel fast enough.
Poison gasses? possible, through they would likely have a counter for it, mayber ask for uncle orri for some flesh/metal/whatever melting gasses/miasma could bear fruit.
Hit their exposed backside?, possible, but going to divert resources that might be needed and would mostly just hurt the non combatant.
Chakra triggered explosive seals tied to a bunch of rats and let loose?
Etc etc...

I feel like Kei status as the Pangolin summoner is going to shine, and the Dogs are going to pull a showing too.
nostalgic looks on Kagome equipping spiders with explosive tags and throwing them into the tunnels, oh well next time.

Chakdar to watch our air and ground?
Does anyone recall the opspec of the Chakdar underground?, and compared to the average byakugan user?

anyway, given them using purely underground forces, how far from their little claimed stretch of land to the village?

Welcome! Glad to see another person enjoying the quest. Number Go Up

I don't think we know the entirety of the specs, but the original seals the chakdar was based on covered an entire casino so...
At the very least, it should make up for the fact we can't have a Hyuuga everywhere

Their land is near the border of grass IIRC

"Varies a lot," Hazō said. "I checked three different casinos. They all had civilian guards floating around, armed both nonlethal and lethal. On top of that, the first casino had a ninja prowling around out in the open, plus another one blending into the crowd. The second had another ninja, also hiding. The third place was the most upscale, but I didn't see anything but civilians guarding it. It did have a bunch of seals scattered around the ceiling and the tables, disguised as patterns in the wood or whatever."
