Crap, crap crap, good point. Quick brainstorm:
- Full lethal alchemist. Kill them as we flee (note: won't work, they'll catch us and it'll burn every bridge we've got)
- Go directly to Kannagi. Make the offer to take Yuno on as an envoy, and once he's on board bring her in and discuss.
- Have Nobby insinuate it, and hope she catches on to the subtlety?
- Tell Nobby to have the discussion as quietly as possible during a meetup, maybe with Hazou distracting minders? Oh, no, better! Have Kei disract them, with Hazou as backup, since she's (our new celebrity)

I don't think attacking them with lethal force is a good idea when we want to leave on positive terms, or making any more backroom seals with Kannagi when he has already broken his word.

One thing I would like to do is to see how Yuno reacts to the news that people tried to kill her fiance just last night. If she goes on a murderous rampage, we need to leave her behind for our own safety (and she would make a lovely diversion). If she listens to Noburi (and preferably Hazou) I'd like to have her on the team.

Another issue we need to address is creating a way for us to return to the village on good terms. Takahashi might want us to take the scroll and run, but I doubt the other elders will allow us to take it forever, heir or not.

So to resolve both of those problems (and to give our magnanimous QM something to write) we need to throw a party like @Traiden suggested.

After we debrief at a secure location, have Pandaa give another speech with the following talking points:
  1. Congratulations and thank you, loyal followers of Ui, you have guarded the scroll faithfully for generations and now the Pangolins have a new summoner. Before she leaves on her quest, by the powers invested in me by the Pangolins leader, I declare today to be a holiday. Let there be singing and dancing and partying for all!
  2. After today, our summoner will fulfill her duty by going out into the darkness to make way for the light! As for you, our loyal disciples, the Pangolins will never forget your labors. I give you one final charge as we gave to Ui's followers ages ago: maintain a safe haven for the summoner for the will grow weary in her fight against evil and will require rest.
  3. As our agent, as she prospers, so too will you prosper. Her enemies are our enemies and her allies are our allies. Whoever should betray our chosen summoner betrays us and betrays Ui and all his works.
  4. (Optional) The summoner will take a member of the village of her choosing to accompany her and her companions on her perilous journey, just as all summoners before her have gathered human allies.
This way, we fulfill our end of the bargain with Takahashi yet still have a way to come back here when we want. As for Yuno, at the party we have Noburi go on a date with her. The noise and commotion should be enough to lose the chaperones and give us a chance to speak privately with her. Once she hears about the attack (preferably through some simple code like, every third word is a part of the real message (we explain the code by hugging her and whispering into her ear)). If she attacks people, we ditch her. If she listens to us, she can come with us as the village representative.

Hopefully that will be enough grandstanding to get us out of the village on mostly friendly terms. The key to pulling this off is to have Pandaa reference that there have been multiple summoners so that we can bypass most of the issues related to not knowing the nuances of Ui's actions. We have a source that goes above Ui's cult to the source; we should abuse that for all its worth.

For the most part I like the Batman plan, but like @Twofold said it needs specifics on how stuff will get done, not just what it is we want to do.

[X] Action Plan: Holy Rapid Deployment, Batman!

Alright, I really like this plan. @OliWhail , there are a few things, if you're awake.

1) Inoue has just asked us for a List of potential options for the Yuno situation for the upcoming discussion about it, so I think you should include one in your plan. Just make that List, and then have Hazou recommend what you have right now as long as no one is seriously opposed.

2) Inform at least Takahashi (maybe even Aida Rin since she'd take it the most seriously) that the Tapir Clan are the hated enemies of the Pangolins, and ask whether they already knew that. Also tell him of the reactions of both Azai's.

3) Be wary of Yoshida as well, since she did give "we should steal the scroll from Keiko if she does manage to unlock it" during the Council meeting. In her defense, this might've been just to convince others to vote for us to be allowed to take the trial, but with the two faces we have seen of her, we cannot be certain which is her true opinion. Don't be rude or anything, since this might not be a big deal, but just generally keep an eye out for any sealing shenanigans.

Eh, fuck it. I'll make a plan. Note that I'm on mobile, so apologies in advance for the awful formatting. Also, shamelessly stealing bits from other plans as per usual. Credit goes to those who originally thought of said bits.

[X] Action Plan: Parties are for Pangolins

Goals: Survive, Leave (yes really) the village on amicable terms, verify if Yuno could be a liability or an asset to our team.

Wherever we meet altogether as a team that is secure, do the following:

When Keiko and Kagome return, congratulate + heal + listen to Keiko
  • Mention that what she did was just as brave as when Hazou fought against the chunin back in Iron, if not even braver
  • Put people on high alert re: Aiza and tapirs
  • Save curiosity about summons for when we are in a secure location except for:
    • Making sure he knows the village raises tapirs, so it won't be a shock if he sees them
    • Asking if the pangolins can get a message to Jiraiya via the toads. Don't send anything yet, since we don't know whether we want to give up any info without more discussion, but set up an information-based dead man's hand with Pandaa so that the village's location will be revealed to the Jiraya if we get killed. This can also be used as leverage against uncooperative elders if needed.

After meeting with our team and debriefing, arrange for a speech to be given by Pandaa as well as arrange for a private chat with Yuno and Noburi with Hazou as their chaperone:

(If we need a reason to give another speech, have Pandaa call for a whole village meeting so they can air their grievances since he has heard our team's opinions and then he can mostly yet politely dismiss/ignore them as the voice of Ui's former bosses)

For the most part I like the Batman plan, but like @Twofold said it needs specifics on how stuff will get done, not just what it is we want to do.

If Kagome or anyone else wants, they can stay in inside to avoid the party and Mari is on bed rest, doctor's orders. Outside we maintain our buddy system just as we have been before. If anyone stays inside and is able, have them pack our stuff and/or prepare things like seals or traps.

During the party, wherever Keiko goes, Pandaa goes. Stress to him the importance of acting like he knows what is going on, but he can still observe and learn from the humans he meets so long as he does so discretely or has an excuse like, the Pangolins haven't seen humans in centuries and want to see what has changed.

__________

Always open to suggestions or other people cannibalizing this plan as they please.

Bruh, you've done an excellent job for your first attempts. Don't get discouraged, learn from the constructive criticism and you'll be fine.

There has been pages of discussion about what makes a plan "good" I've read all of it and I still fuck up. Nothing is perfect and this quest has a steep learning curve.

If you are interested, said discussion should be shortly before we decided to wait for the trial. I'll try to find it later if ya want.

Am awake and typing furiously, will take suggestions into account

arrange for a speech to be given by Pandaa

In addition to the speech already given in front of the whole village?

Am awake and typing furiously, will take suggestions into account

Generally, a platonic ideal plan has three parts:
  1. What you are doing
  2. How you are doing it (copious details are good, overly restrictive is not)
  3. Why you are doing it and why you want to do it this way (this way the QM's understand your intent even if your wording is poor and it gives them the creative room necessary to tell an interesting story)
Usually all of that would be indented, but I have no tab key. Hopefully that makes sense.

[X] Action Plan: Holy Rapid Deployment, Batman!

As an aside, for Akane's birthday present, I suggest the following from Hazou: A set of knuckledusters. Why, you ask? Because frankly, I find the idea of Hazou asking Akane for her finger measurements to be hilarious.

e: Think about how hilariously flustered he'd be when he realizes what the rest of the team thought he was going to give her!

In addition to the speech already given in front of the whole village?

We could quantify it by saying he has spoken to our teammates and reached a decision. We could also allow the elders to make their case, but have the judgment predetermined so their case doesn't matter.

Good question.

E: fucking mobile

To answer your question, it would be a way to set up a scenario to test Yuno and appear to give a shit about the village's sense of decorum. He already made one proclamation, I see no reason why he can't make another.

I didn't mean to criticize you, @OliWhail. You're doing a great job, and you should totally keep going. I was a little amazed that people were voting to make my mostly-a-joke post become canon, that's all.

I guess we aim to explode ninja/tapirs rather than land this time.
*sigh*
where's Konan when you need her...

It's definitely time to have Jiraiya appear acting very excited and order you to go assault the capital of Tea immediately because he's just discovered that a giant pile of maguffinite is being transhipped and it's vital that you capture it at all costs.
I think we can do better than that.

"Say, that chakra rain you ran into sounds like a big deal. I want you guys to infiltrate Hidden Rain and find out what's going on in there."

Additional updates, trying to take some advice from @Twofold and @Dictator4Hire. I really like Pandaa's speech, but want to tweak it a little more. Will come back after reviewing the link to the 'how to write plans' discussion.

For our dear QM's sake:
[X] Action Plan: Holy Rapid Deployment, Batman!

This is a version of Mission from God with us pushing to get us out and to safety as fast as possible without burning too many bridges. Puts a modicum of effort towards cementing Keiko's place as a religious icon.
  • Hazou and Akane pack up portable belongings during Keiko's trial and then begin refreshing store of tags and traps. Nobby on medic duty.
  • When Keiko and Kagome return, congratulate + heal + listen to Keiko
    • Save curiosity about summons for when we are in a secure location except for:
      • Making sure Pandaa knows the village raises tapirs, so it won't be a shock if he sees them
      • Check that the pangolins can get a message to Jiraiya via the toads. Don't send anything yet, since we don't know whether we want to give up any info without more discussion, but set up an information-based dead man's hand with Pandaa so that the village's location will be revealed to Jiraya if we get killed. This can also be used as leverage against uncooperative elders if needed.
    • Hold a quick group vote on whether to leave immediately, after a few days of healing, or after a full recovery. Hazou votes to capitalize on the upheaval + newfound position of power to GTFO.
      • If staying, push to relocate to open-air base (assuming it is still secure), unless we have access to pangolin earth-jutsu that would allow us to escape from being buried under the mountain.
  • Prep to leave
    • In case it's needed to grab attention, have Kei and Mari draft a speech emphasizing that we have a mandate to leave and that anyone obstructing us is acting against that mandate
    • Keiko, backed up by Hazou and Akane, go to Takahashi for a very brief meeting. If he isn't determined for us to never return, establish secure codes with him to be used at a dead-drop, including versions to be given up under duress in case of a coup
      • Since he wants a different future for the village, offer to put him in contact with an official from the current largest power on the mainland who has dealt with us honestly. Give an alternate code set for this person if he accepts.
    • Dealing with Yuno:
      • List for Mari:
        • Take Yuno on as a liaison, to tempt the Kannagi elder with the prestige of having the official delegate for the village be from his clan
        • Take her on without a special position, to avoid controversy over the official village delegate being a cursed child
        • Take her with us, framing it as an extended courtship period (to now be chaperoned by the prophesied summoner, or some other way of getting around that objection)
        • Escort her out and provider her with some level of education re: modern world, then drop her in a town of her choosing that seems reasonable and let her make her own way
        • Go through with the marriage, like, now, and then just have her come with, invoking the marital bond
        • If she doesn't want to come, of course, leave Yuno here
      • Hazou recommends:
        • Noburi meets with Yuno as normal, with Hazou+Akane backup. He quietly explains the full situation around the marriage as tactfully as possible, reassuring her that he and the other team members like her and want her to be happy, but cannot stay for Divine Mandate + personal safety reasons (mentioning the assault on our cave). Ask if she would like to leave the village with us, so we know there's a reason to go talk to the Kannagi elder. Make sure she is aware that as missing nin, there will be people hunting us - it will be even harder than normal ninja life, and we can't have her feeling we've hidden things from her.
        • If she chooses to come with:
          • Either via Yuno's minders or through the group seeking an audience as an official request from the new summoner, contact the Kannagi elder and offer to take Yuno with us as an official delegate from the village. Hopefully this will tempt him with a bit of prestige plus offloading his clan's cursed child.
          • Ask Mari to vet Yuno for any thus-far hidden issues as thoroughly as we can in the short time available (longer if the team votes to heal, but still not that long)
        • In case of a bad reaction, prefer nonlethal takedowns and have most prep for departure done ahead of this meeting
        • If Kannagi tries to insist we/Nobby have to stay even after the offer to take on Yuno in an honored position, Pandaa+Kei step in and insinuate he's a traitor for going against the pangolins' + summoner's wishes
  • Leave, citing our mission from the Pangolin Clan
    • (Courtesy of @Dictator4Hire) Ask Pandaa to give another speech with the following talking points as we depart:
      1. Congratulations and thank you, loyal followers of Ui, you have guarded the scroll faithfully for generations and now the Pangolins have a new summoner. Before she leaves on her quest, by the powers invested in me by the Pangolins' leader, I declare today to be a holiday. Celebrate in the ways of your traditions.
      2. Starting today, our summoner will fulfill her duty by going out into the darkness to make way for the light! As for you, our loyal disciples, the Pangolins will never forget your labors. I give you one final charge as we gave to Ui's followers ages ago: maintain a safe haven for the summoner for she will grow weary in her fight against evil and will require rest.
      3. As our agent prospers, so too will you prosper. Her enemies are our enemies and her allies are our allies. Whoever should betray our chosen summoner betrays us and betrays Ui and all his works."
    • If people from Inoue, Aida, or Azai obstruct our leaving and/or they are threatening violence, Keiko should inform them that if we die the village's location will become known to an ally of the pangolin clan.
    • Our destination is our old fort near Tonkai. Travel there as quickly as we can under henge, ensure it is still secure, and hole up/heal up. Get the healthy team members training and researching, and if Yuno is with us work on integrating her into group battle tactics
Security:
Stay together as much as possible
Once everyone's back, keep a rotating watch during debriefing
If someone tries to kill us again, set phasers to kill while getting the hell out
Restock as many explosives and traps as is feasible
Consume rations from our own stores
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Questions, suggestions, criticisms, insults all welcome

E1: Included contingencies to avoid possible issues with Kannagi minders on Yuno/Nobby dates by going to the head guy.
E2: I'm an idiot, the whole village already knows about Kei
E3: Taking further suggestions into account and making actions more concrete + plan more plan-like rather than vague ideas. Many thanks, @Twofold
E4: Included some specifics for grandstanding right before departure

Why are we going to the beach fort?

Because I am a big dummy :p Fixed, thank you.

Celebrate in the ways of your traditions

They might be able to use that as an excuse to rush Noburi and Yuno's marriage if we aren't careful. By organizing the events we should be able to avoid a Hill Billy shotgun wedding. Hopefully they have some sort of loud music and/or festivals so that Yuno and Noburi actually get a chance to talk. The idea is to also supercede the elders grip on the village by introducing something just new enough that it will be remembered as ours, but with enough respect to previous tradition that we won't get called out on it. Keeping them on the back foot is paramount to any chances we have of negotiating a peaceful relationship with the village while still being able to leave.

Following the platonic ideal I mentioned previously, all that would be needed is an explanation about the intent behind the action. It may not be necessary though, depending on how lenient our diligent QM feels tomorrow.

It's going to be so nice when we get out of this politics hell.

@OliWhail Moderate preference for healing up a bit before we leave, although if Mari/Nobby think leaving now is a viable option, we can go with that. I don't want to push too hard to leave right this instant if it's unsafe for them, and I'd rather defer to the medic on that count.
Ah, but IC you don't know that it's suicidal mission.
I believe I recall it being mentioned that we know from our time in Mist that Rain has been closed-borders for a while, and that teams have been sent for recon, and didn't return.

...That aside, it would be putting us in an extremely uncomfortable position (that I'm grateful to the both of you for avoiding putting us in thus far) to force us to choose between something we know is a bad idea out of character, but have no reason not to go along with in character.

Ah, but IC you don't know that it's suicidal mission.

There is chakra soaked water continuously falling from the sky over an entire country named for said rain and we have heard rumors of people as well as trained infiltrators vanishing into the country and never returning.

If that doesn't scream "Here be S-rank ninjas" I don't know what will.

...So. Uh. Just realized something that I KNEW I was missing. If summons can bring along seals no problem when reverse summoning... Nobby can store extra barrels in the summon realm.
