I can see it being useful for the less important updates. Ones where making a bad choice or not specifying something isn't going to get us killed.

I don't say a lot overall, but I feel like I'm surprisingly strongly in the

category, mostly because I really do appreciate how much control VIHH has over Hazo himself.

Our brand of insanity must continue to thrive and this medium is how it is created.

So I think I'm coming around to the idea of selling 7th path chakra delivery to Asuma as long as we are willing to get a good return on it. If we can secure the porcupine scroll, Asuma's help in negotiating contracts and permission to teach Akane and possibly Haru Shadow clones it would be worth it

[X] (SimplifiedVoting): Yes

But purely under the understanding this vote does not imply support for anything longer-term. Try everything once (within reason) is a good motto to live by.

One comment I hear semi-regularly is that voting and planmaking in MfD are too high-stress and too complicated, and that this drives away potential voters. As an experiment, would people enjoy it if the next voting cycle (the one for my update on Sunday June 14) worked more like the standard quest style? That is, after Velorien's update on Thursday you would be given a fixed set of options to vote on for Sunday, each only a few words or a sentence, and it would be up to me what to do with it?
[><] Write-In: No simplified voting, but plan-makers have to write plans that are within a 100 word limit. Preferably 50.

7th path chakra concerns me a bit. We definitely need to wait till we have some idea of the nature of nature chakra.

Well, Velorien's mentioned that there might be unknown consequences from a ninja absorbing an animal's chakra. And if we accept that the Inuzuka have dog-like features like in canon, and they also share chakra with their familiars like in canon, then we can put forth the claim that in MfD, repeated absorption of nature chakra causes the absorber to take on features of that animal --at least in controlled, tried-and-true through trial and error, means.

My theory is that the Vampiric dew bloodline works as a sort of "filter" than "filters" the chakra into a neutral state. Taken from animals? Well, now it's compatible with humans. Is there a sort of "donor match" with chakra --kind of like bone marrow or blood types? Welp, with the Vampiric Dew, it's now universal.

But that's just my guess based on what crumbs the QMs have dropped in-story, with a little bit of canon-knowledge patched in.

The divide within the community is more even then I expected, tbh.

My general take is that some of the best moments, like Tua mentioned, probably wouldn't have happened with a default voting system, in and out of character (Skywalkers, the Ami date, standing up to Zabuza). I think simplified voting for updates that are either continuing along the previous plan (like where we're at now), or if the QMs have a specific desire would be fine. I think, if we were in a bad situation, and things went bad, and we weren't able to try everything we could, as a playerbase we'd likely be disgruntled about that. But really, I'm on the side

[X] (SimplifiedVoting): Let the QMs experiment with the structure if they want. I trust them.

We actually tried that and it didn't work. The amount of content that people tried to put in a plan didn't change, the plan simply became so telegraphic as to be incomprehensible.
Why not limit the amount of content, then? Cause looking at the winning plan it's like 2 and half plans really.

I'm reminded of the system here: Paradox of Choice: The Quest (Ulthuan Quest)

The winning plan could be written instead like this:

Asuma
  • Hazou is the Mizukage's nephew. Asuma's welcome to use that fact, there's little love lost there.
  • Would it help for Hazou to intercede on Ami's behalf?
  • Would Asuma permit Hazou to write to his mother? Personal matters only, and no objection to contents being read.
  • Hazou would like Asuma's permission to negotiate with Yasuji. Asuma gets progress reports and veto rights.
Yasuji
  • Only negotiate if Asuma approves. Discuss with Mari before.
  • Goal: Work towards a deal. We do want a lasting barrel for Noburi and the koi.
  • Method: Be friendly and straightforward, but treat him seriously. You'd like to assemble an offer the Wakahisa would accept.
  • Have breakfast together and then talk to him in private.
  • Suggest trading/selling the defensive coverings for Noburi's barrel.
Akane introspection
  • Take time to think about re-igniting the relationship with Akane.
  • Akane didn't just break up with Hazou due to agency issues. She also mentioned:
    • The imbalance of power between them
    • Wanting to be her own person, not just an extension of Hazou's will
  • Akane claimed Hazou has changed. Has he changed enough to invalidate these reasons? He's gained even more power over her since.
  • Rethinks what Hazou knows about Akane, from the beginning
    • She's strong, bright, optimistic, and never falters. It wasn't always so, though, according to her.
    • She yearns for purpose and dedicates herself to causes - Youth, being Hazou's apprentice, the team, Uplift, Leaf. She almost killed herself not wanting to slow you down. She's desperately, unreasonably loyal.
    • It's a bit sad, put like that. As if she herself, and her own life, always matter less. When Hazou originally confessed his feelings, she responded by saying she wasn't good enough for him. How can she be so bright and strong, yet value herself so little?
    • Being together again can only be as equals. Hazou needs to see Akane as a person with agency. But she needs to see herself as valuable and worthy. Like with Keiko, agency is a two-way street.
  • What was she going to say, before leaving for the tournament finals? How'd Akane become Tsunade's apprentice anyway? Maybe ask Mari, somehow you have a bad feeling about this.
Mari
  • Bring her some chocolate. She deserves it.
  • Relay your thoughts about Akane, and ask for advice.
  • Ask what happened while you were gone for the tournament.
  • In her honest opinion, does the clan need for Hazou to marry politically
Plan: Heart Deal-Breaker
Objective: Negotiate for Koi and Noburi's Barrel Seals
Approach:
1. Meet with Asuma and lay out the advantages (and our plan) of negotiating a deal with Yasuji. Proceed only if approved - Asume gets progress reports and veto rights.
a. The Endless chakra from Koi, for example.
b. Or Noburi's Chakra drain.
2. Between Mari and Hazo, wrangle out maximum benefits out of a deal with Yasuji - A deal neither he nor Wakihasa can refuse. Perhaps over breakfast, by being friendly and straightforward.

Assets:
1. Hazo
2. Mari
3. Noburi
4. Non-Combat Jutsu approved by Asuma.
5. Non-Combat Seals approved by Asuma.
6. Any additional resources approved by Asuma.

(111 Words)

The Akana matter is like, another plan entirely. Why is it even here? What does it have to do with Yasuji/Noburi?

Going by past experience, the hivemind is reluctant to vote for plans that only focus on improving relationships if they don't have an immediate pay off (which includes the spoken-to character not doing anything terrible in the near future, like Keiko or Mari imploding). Bundling them up with a plan that aims to increase the power of the Goketsu is a better way to get votes for them.

The characterization of Hazou seeing people as tools hasn't come out of nowhere. We just don't hang out with people unless we can gain something from them or if we can prevent them from doing something even worse - 'cause, you know, that'd set us back on making more goal oriented plans in the future.

And that'd be just too terrible.

TBH the main reason I'm inclined to "bundle" plans like that is that... well, it sort of feels like forward momentum halts for chapters at a time when we deal with interpersonal issues exclusively. It's happened on multiple occasions that we've had to spend updates dealing with Keiko/Mari/Akane/Kagome stuff, and while those scenes are engaging in their own right, they result in weeks of real life time spent for like three days of in-story time, and that's frustrating when there's things that happen a month or a year out in-story that I'm looking forward to.

Why not let the interpersonal issues come up as interludes? Or come up when the GM feels they are appropriate.

I can't imagine planning out my personal relationship with, for example, my brother. Or grandmother, etc. (But maybe I should try? Lol)

It's partially a question of control. If the players want control of how a conversation goes, if they want to specify a specific approach or topic, then the plan needs to devote meaningful word count to it. I think conversations often end up overspecified, but I'm not the one writing the plans.

The other part is words written per hour. It usually takes 5-8 hours for me to produce an MfD chapter, and there's only so much I can fit into that timespan -- generally 2-3 scenes worth. Important conversations require significant wordcount, so the more time is spent on dialogue, the less time is spent on other things. Conversations take place over the course of minutes, so if the plan specifies having 3 important conversations then nothing else is going to happen.

In short: If y'all want time to progress quickly in-universe and to progress important projects then it's unfortunately necessary to avoid talky scenes.

Why would you want to do that?

It was mostly a joke. I was thinking about what herbs/spices we could trade to Mist and I thought about mint. If we give it to them, then we should warn them about how easily it spreads --and suggest they keep it in separate pots. Mist has very little spare agricultural land and wild mint could be catastrophic.

But... I suppose we could save the idea of slipping some mint seeds in a shipment for if we ever need to get revenge on Mist for something serious. Like if someone from Uplift dies and they're responsible. Play nice, say we understand that it was an "accident" and appear to buy their story. Then slip some wild mint in with the regular seeds and wait. Maybe even selectively breed a strain of mint that's particularly hardy/prolific for that purpose. Depending on how vengeful we're feeling, we might even bribe Orochimaru to get his help finding a way to turn mint into a Chakra Plant.

Because some scenes can have short word count allowing more to be fit in an update. And it's hard to predict when they will.
Well, then it can be a short update, which would probably be written far faster.

Besides, plan bundling shouldn't be a thing that happens. It takes away the agency of future voters. If we really must, then write two plans and ask the QMs to write both, since that's what is indeed happening.

So I've been thinking about things we might be able to get from Hinata in exchange for 7th path chakra water delivery. I think we should try for some jutsu from turtles, mutual embassies on 7th path, help on major infrastructure projects and, political concessions. What our other people's thoughts?

If Noburi still wants to do research, a Hyūga minion would be invaluable for studying chakra beast chakra networks.

I feel I would mainly want to 'purchase' goodwill. Improve Hinata's opinion in specific and the Hyuuga's opinion in general about us so that even while they oppose us politically they're more likely to treat us as genuine Leaf-nin instead of, well, how Hiashi saw us. Better relations also opens the door more for discussions with Hinata that might sway the Hyuga to a stance somewhat more in line with Uplift.

What we can do is make the 'price' of supporting Neji be the Hyuuga partnering with the Goketsu on some lucrative joint venture, or some similar endeavor, which not only provides the veneer of give and take but compounds generosity with generosity. If memory serves the Hyuuga are low on liquid money after the Collapse but still filthy rich in terms of investments, so the kind of joint venture Hinata would appreciate most is one that would generate immediate value rather than long-term payouts.
