It went up her arm and took root in her chest, where the lungs are.

What do we think about trying to touch it with one finger, and then severing that finger during the transfer?

It went up her arm and took root in her chest, where the lungs are.

Alternate interpretation: it took root where the nexus of her chakra system is.

We've found that it prefers people over seals, but is there a chance it might anchor itself to a chakra construct, or something else with high chakra? A seal itself is minuscule in those terms but if we can get the anomaly anchored to a chakra construct we could hopefully strand it without a host when the construct ends.

"Right," Hazō said. "But it won't jump to my Earth Clone. I was hoping I could pull it onto a clone and then let the clone dissolve, but no joy."

Looks like no such luck.

Aren't Earth clones chakra constructs? It wouldn't jump to one of those. I think it would be worth summoning a pangolin to see if it would jump to them because afaik there isn't much opportunity cost, but I don't think it would work.

Something that was raised already but:

What if--by some twist of karma-- this ends up detonating as a 13-Seal SIN upon completion?

Or worse: it detonates as a single Implosion Seal, thirteen times on thirteen (probably different) hosts?

We could test the effects of the seal on an Air Dome equivalent. Put a Skywalker on the damn thing and if it is an implosion seal, it'll interact with the frozen air and possibly cancel out.

Of course, this is after we try getting the seal onto a chakra monster, since there's no point testing it while it's on something we care about. We are gonna still want to test it, in case it transfers onto the nearest living thing after it completes and blows up.

Get it on a chakra beast, and kill that beast from very far away.

Everyone who got infected stays separate from everyone else when the kill happens.

The infected are given 5sb bunkers where they can throw anything that looks like a bomb, should one appear. Medkits for all in case that bomb is a body part.

Hm...we're about 75miles from the Swamp of Death, and IIRC there were a bunch of steelbacks in the area that may serve as a chakra source.

Hey, did we ever sell those spines?

Hey, did we ever sell those spines?

Yes.

"By no means," Keiko said seriously. "It would bring shame upon my clan were I to exploit my position as a shinobi for personal gain. That is the very opposite of what the Gōketsu stand for."

The man frowned, as if trying to remember where he'd heard the name.

Keiko bowed.

"We shall carry these items back to our father the Hokage, and tell him how you, Master Kitagawa, opened our eyes to their true worthlessness. I am certain he will appreciate both your candour and your loyalty."

The man's eyes bulged as if attempting to escape their sockets and start new lives far away under assumed names.

"O—Oh, steelbacks. I thought you said 'squealbats'. Pathetic creatures, the squealbats. No value to anyone at all. No indeed. But steelbacks, those are highly nutritious. Completely different deal. I would be delighted to offer you 100,000 ryō for this steelback meat, Your Highness."

"'My lady' will do," Keiko said primly. "On behalf of the Gōketsu Clan, I accept your offer."

"Here you are, my lady," the sweating Kitagawa offered her a pouch of ryō. "And please, I am a humble man. There is no need to describe this transaction to the Hokage. None at all."

Seal failures *sometimes* relate to the seal. Not always and probably not even most of the time.
Interesting. This sounds like people haven't even managed to find that out. I know that it's unwise to research sealing failures directly, but I would have thought it would have been reasonably safe to simply do surveys of sealmasters to catalogue sealing failures and find out what percent of them relate to the seal. Sure the dataset wouldn't be perfect since plenty of failures just plain kill the sealmaster without leaving much evidence as to how, but what dataset is ever perfect? Do some sealing failures affect people who study them indirectly, without first killing the sealmasters/witnesses that would need to be alive in order for someone to ask them about the sealing failure?

Edit:
Is this one of those "I wonder why the Nara haven't done this yet? Guess I'll go ask them to do it." "...I wonder why the Nara clan is so small?" kinds of things?

Come to think of it, isn't the mission we're technically on right now a chakra beast clearing mission? We should easily be able to find plenty of chakra beasts just by going to wherever the target area is. :thonk:

@QMs, Would Hazou reject a plan of going straight to killing Kagome/Akane, or following Kagome's orders (even if Kagome orders to kill himself/akane)?

We could try stacking defensive jutsu on them in the hopes they survive an implosion seal

We could ask Kagome to guess what caused the seal failure, in the hopes it'll give an answer on how to solve it.

We could ask Kagome what to do if we kill him and the seal failure is still going.

We should also dispel.

We can ask the others what we did when we were blacked out.

We can use Living Roots to look for underground critters

We can investigate the sin blast sites, and investigate the unactivate sin stacks

Ask Kagome whether transferring it onto another creature and letting the seal complete might trigger an enormous explosion that kills everyone anyway. And whether killing the person with the seal might also trigger it.

Tell Kagome what happened when you read the summoning scroll. Your mental condition might be why you and not others reacted to approaching Kagome.

Hazou's gibberish when he read the summoning scroll might tell us how to solve this

Have Hazou remember the summoning scroll incident, to get out of shift with reality and possibly learn answers (recall hazou was able to see through his eyes, learn about hyuuga's voice, and learn kagome had bigger implosion seals last time it happened).

We can ask Naruto's tummy whether it knows how to deal with this

Could transfer the seal to Hazou to see whether there are any unique interactions

Have Hazou look at normal seals, and then the unexploded implosion stacks to see if the implosion seals still look like they are "gleaming with fell purpose", and whether the normal seals have no effect

If it transfers to the outermost layer of clothing, if we put on seal enhanced armour, and a bunch of shirts/a specially designed bit of clothing so that the chest is 2 meters from the body. That could reduce the chance of death.

a couple terrible observations:
  1. The blot (presumably) travelled from the failed seal to Kagome. That was a large distance traveled nigh instantaneously.
  2. It sticks to the outermost layer until that layer are removed, at which point it snaps to the next lowest one
  3. It's outputting heat, and lightly scorched kagome's shirt on transfer
  4. It will not switch to a person by means of that person's chakra in a seal contacting the blotch.
  5. It will not switch to a person by means of that person's chakra construct. Possible that a shadow clone counts as a person for this purpose.
  6. A day of full ninja speed running would get us to the rain border or tanzaku gai.
  7. Hazou and Kagome can both hear the blotch making sound, and maybe one of the clones.
a couple terrible conjectures:
  1. Kagome infused the seals, so it's probable that was the reason for him to be the first host.
  2. Due to the long range transmission at the start, I suspect the blot has less to do with seeking air, and more to do with chakra signature of the current host
  3. The blot seems to have a memory of the last chakra signature it has experienced, and only that one.
  4. Weight may be an indicator of contained chakra. The growth process generates chakra, and thus weight.
  5. Skin contact (or very close proximity) is probably required to switch hosts.
  6. It is likely releasing heat from the growth process, rather than using heat
a couple really terrible ideas:
  1. have 2 people chakra-poke it at the same time
  2. try to put the blotch in a storage seal
  3. use EM to create a zone of cold so the blotch can transfer heat faster
  4. see what it does when exposed to an infused/uninfused implosion seal
  5. double down on the sealing failures and infuse the in-progress seal halfway completed
  6. put something (a body part) in between the blotch and the next settling location and see if that that will cause it to jump between people -> might be able to use that to transfer to a chakra beast
