For everyone else, what deaths would make the most interesting political consequences, I wonder?

Rocks fall. Everyone dies.

Every S ranked ninja in the world is there. If they all die, Nagi island becomes a ridiculous hell zone with all nine tailed beasts just running around. The villages scramble as the bulk of all military power goes up in smoke. We might end up as one of the most powerful teams left.

I'm assuming they're going in with plans for tailed beast containment if it proves necessary, even if both sides don't actually want the beasts getting released, but yeah...that's a definitely possible nightmare scenario.

Say, if all the beasts get released do they automatically combine into the ten tails, or is something else needed on top of that?

It'd be really interesting if a member of Akatsuki betrayed them for the Omnikage Alliance once the tide of battle shifted in hopes of at least being allowed to run away.

Basically any Kage dying would cause a major upheaval in their home country, with potential results of 'start WW4' or 'turn inwards until succession crisis is resolved', etc.

We still have no idea whatsoever what's happening with the Jinchuuriki. They might be alive unless Akatsuki wins and finishes whatever it is they're doing. Some or all of them might be dead. If a Jinchuuriki is dead in this situation, we have no idea what happens to the Bijuu. Would they get released and rampage like we'd expect, or would whatever Akatsuki's getting up to keep them tied up during the battle? If so, what happens when it ends?

There's a decently likely chance that we'll see a Bijuu redistribution here, now that they're all in one place and all five nations can sit down and divide them up 'fairly'.

Solid analysis.

Do we know if Ren went? I'm not sure if she's even A and/or jonin class when it comes to pure combat, so there would be a solid argument for leaving her behind. We definitely want her alive, since if she dies the Leaf/Mist alliance is probably dead with her as someone from the Mist hawk faction takes the hat.

Well, unless everyone important from Mist dies and Ami takes the hat.

...say, QMs, are you taking requests on how things shake out? XD

I just reread the first few pages of this quest.

Turns out there were more than 3 jonin in the original "suicide mission", and more than 3 jonin defectors. There was a fourth one who immediately got killed by a chakra alligator, and was then forgotten for the rest of the quest.
Amusingly, just a few lines later it says that "A small water burst under the surface would alarm the creatures enough to make them give away their position. Chakra-enhanced alligators were the apex predators of the swamp, but against experienced ninja? They were meat." :D

HAZOU: I volunteer as tribute.

JIRAIYA: You want me to stick a massive chakra demon in your belly?

HAZOU: Yes. My sanity is a high cost, but it is a paltry sacrifice for the good of Leaf as a whole.

JIRAIYA: Actually I think I can do it with relatively minor negative -

HAZOU: It's for the good of Leaf.

Expanding on what @OliWhail said: @Radvic wrote a "rutting huge battle" simulator, we put together a list of several dozen people and summons who were at the fight, and ran it. Then we spent a day or so going "ZOMGWTFBBQ" and figuring out the implications. Now @Velorien is writing that. I may or may not write a little more of it as part of the next update, but I'll try to make sure to write at least part of the plan as well.

As always, voting will be open after the chapter drops, which will be tomorrow. The existing plan will be the default, but you can vote in changes or a new plan.

Also: Voting is extended to 3pm on Saturday.

Please have mercy on our soul by telling us the result of the battle instead of leaving us hanging.

That is far from the worst possible outcome. As I have had cause to notice over the last few days.

Why would [Ren] go [to the fight]?
Because every other Kage was going and they weren't going to let her sit it out?

SHIKAKU: Did a missing-nin genin really escape Zabuza's pursuit, learn sealing from a hermit, revolutionize ninja warfare, get brought in from the cold by Jiraiya, become a founding member of a Leaf clan with Jiraiya the Hokage at its head, and acquire the power of a Tailed Beast all by accident? :thonk:

Jiraya: That sort of luck is why I adopted them! They already fit into the family-team tradition!

So, Akatsuki completes the plan, but everyone dies aside from Hiashi, that then absorb the Ten Tails inside himself.
Of course that just means that the Sage can complete his reincarnation and posses him and his first name on his kill list is the High-Watcher Kagome, meaning we arrive to see a Konoha completely destroyed, while the two gods fight in the ruins of our temporary home.
Meanwhile Madara, that in reality was Tsunade, died on the island, meaning his soul entered Akane(Completing the process she started when Akane stood up to her, making herself known as a worthy vessel), possessing her and almost killing Mari, leaving her on the brink of death.
So now we need to save Mari while not killing the SSS-rank machine that is Akane, while Kagome fight to the death with the Sage/Ten-Tail/Hiashi to protect our retreat.
The only good thing is that Itachi survived the battle too, and is currently in the shadows to protect and save us under the order of his real master....Dread Empress Keiko, that ressurected him and then casted him in this time from the future.
Is this the worst outcome?

Hazo: Now as for the Bijuu you'll be sealing in me

Jiraiya: Well actually the new vessels haven't actually been chosen yet-

Hazo: Obviously I will abide by your will and take on whichever beast you choose, but if I could make a suggestion I would not find it cruel to be forced-

Jiraiya: Again no one has actually been picked to be Jinchuriki yet.

Hazo: Be forced to have the three tails.

Jiraiya:...the three tails?

Hazo: The Bijuu the Mist used to own yes, a harsh responsibility but one I will dutifully accept.

Jiraiya: Obviously, and clearly this isn't just some petty form of vengeance against your dead Mizukage and the Mist for the last two years of being hunted down, or for the way they tried to screw you over in the Chunin Exams, right?

Hazo: Jiraiya sir, that is, the very idea, really I am offended you would think me so petty. This is about duty, nothing more.

Jiraiya: uh huh

Hazo: Why the very idea of forcing the Mist to watch as their alleged traitor control the power of the three tails, rub it in their snooty crapsack faces as I learn to summon the iron hard defences of their once proud super weapon, and watch as they can do nothing while I hold in me what was once the source of Yagura's power? Never crossed my mind

Jiraiya:.....rrrrrriiiiiiiiight, well they're getting the giant turtle back anyway so it doesn't matter.

Hazo: what come on just let me have this

Because every other Kage was going and they weren't going to let her sit it out?

I was wondering what the canon answer was, mostly. I figured it had come up.

As for Ren going, that's definitely one reason. She could also feel compelled to go to lead her troops to keep the other Kages from spending Mist lives preferentially, and to keep from looking weak to her political opponents at home. She might figure she could stay on the outskirts of the actual fighting when it came to that part to stay safe.

On the other hand if she's not a seasoned mass combat commander Mist might be better off with someone who is handling actual command, and keeping bodyguards back for her means they can't be used in the fighting, and if she says in Mist that guarantees that Mist won't lose its Kage if all goes really really badly. Staying home is probably the better option in my opinion, but political pressures might prevent her from doing that.

"Hey Ami, I figured out what I wanted. How would you like to be the only woman who has ever stolen a bijuu?"

XD

HAZOU: No, I want you to stick ALL of the massive chakra demons into my belly.

Let's be honest: as a thread we'd never be satisfied with only one insanity sowing demon when we can have the complete set.
We could psychically batter them into submission by making longer and longer lists every time they act up. Even the tailed beasts couldn't handle that kind of torture.

You know, if Ren had just given her nephew his birthday presents, he could have injected some chaos into the proceedings which Ami would have loved to use to help her out with. In exchange for a favor, of course.

Well. Only one thing to do then.

*Dusts off old meme*

PRAISE RNJASHIN!
If you only saw the battle log...

For everyone else, what deaths would make the most interesting political consequences, I wonder?

I can see where you've had time to read the stolen battle log. But how have you got your hands on the update I haven't even finished writing yet?

One or more people are dead. Someone has been caused to feel strong emotions. Multiple words have been exchanged.

Allow me to rewrite that to account for one subtle detail I believe you've missed.

Akatsuki is about to win with most of the Omnikage strike force down when Itachi reveals his double agent status and reverses Akatsuki's nefarious ritual, sending his fellow Akatsuki members into the Out before using the last of his energy to revive Jiraiya. Jiraiya thanks him for his loyalty and service, then Itachi dies to his chronic illness. Jiraiya stares into the sunset, contemplating the boundless honor of a man such as Uchiha Itachi, before deciding to build a world where such sacrifices aren't necessary and returns to Leaf to throw his complete strength and authority behind Uplift.

How'd I do? :)

You'll find out tomorrow. I daresay you'll be surprised.

That would be nice, and deeply touching. Chances are therefore low. Perhaps we'll be surprised?

Or maybe that happens but Ren dies and Ami takes over Mist to become the ally that keeps our lives 'interesting'.
