It was very satisfying.

NB: hawkczar's Jiraiya let us explore all the implications of Ami letters, while Vel's one threw every speculation in the plan right back to us. So, ej's Jiraiya alliws us to think for ourselves and only steps in to give guidance. Vel's Jiraiya is more strict and prefers to outrule us all mentory and wise. I wonder whether we can exploit this hurr hurr hurr
Velorien's Jiraiya is rushed off his feet and doesn't go into as much detail as he could, much like Velorien himself.

Incidentally, if just telling Keiko that Jiraiya wants her around isn't enough, I don't think we should do anything drastic to stop her from unsummoning. We'd basically have to cold cock her and keep her unconscious or chakraless to stop her, and that's really harsh. Keiko doesn't deserve that kind of treatment and it'd permanently damage the relationship between her and the rest of the family. It's not worth it to keep her from sulking a while. Better to let her sulk and come back on her own in time.

Presumably J's reaction is not 'Keiko is not allowed to sulk', but rather 'I need my tournament winner / runner-up on hand to parade, not embarrassingly unreachable in summon realm'.

Though her being unconscious is not better, so let's not do that.

@Velorien what did we tell Jirayia that Keiko did? 'If it's just a childish tantrum, fine, otherwise talk her down' - does he think she might be leaving permanently? Or what are we supposed to talk her down from?

Or is the idea that if it's a tantrum it'd be easy to talk down, otherwise do whatever to get her to the compound?

Maybe we could keep her around by telling her about our crazy plan(tm) to have her meet with Ami while disguised as Hazou. She could spend some more time with Ami and maybe find out why Ami really acted like she did toward Keiko, and she wouldn't have to worry about Hazou doing anything improper with her sister. It's perfect.

I am not seriously suggesting this, but her reaction to the suggestion would be hilarious.

You just showed him the letter without further speculation. Hazō was evasive about details because he didn't want Jiraiya to kill him, Noburi was feeling charitable enough not to say anything indicting, and Jiraiya was apparently too tired to make the connection with Keiko's silence during the debriefing.

It occurs to me that draining her wont be enough if she wants to leave very badly. She can potentially inflict chakra consequences on herself to summon Pandaa to get spirited away.

I think we have to resort to talking to her. Blah.

Wait, what part was Hazou worried Jiraiya would kill him for?

Wait, letter? I thought this was about the verbal message from Keiko we got through Pandaa:
"She says that she'll fulfil her clan duties by attending the Finals tomorrow, but until then she's made alternative sleeping arrangements.

I would like to announce that there has never been a twin paradox. As physics teaches us, the forces that make up the universe are incapable of creating such contradictions.

Wait, what part was Hazou worried Jiraiya would kill him for?
Being partly responsible for Keiko being so upset she decided to abandon humanity.

Wait, letter? I thought this was about the verbal message from Keiko we got through Pandaa:
I was speaking figuratively, by analogy with Ami's letters. Honest.

I like how the Twin Issue was dealt with:

@OliWhail: Saya and Aya are twins. It's how I created them.
Oh, I'm so sorry dear, I asked the twins to wake you up and didn't think….
@Velorien: But that would make me look bad and that just won't stand. Therefore I just made them out to be liars instead. I get to be right and I get to gaslight people. It's a win/win.
"All right," Noburi said, "meet my sisters who used to claim they were twins back when they were younger and cuter and not a pair of little hellions."
@eaglejarl: Back in my day we resolved issues like this by having the twins punch each other until only one remained. There, no more twin problems. Or twins.
What, did you expect a quote?

I mean, even if we fail, Jiraiya can just go to the 7th path for like 10 minutes and give her a stern "Dont you dare fuck this up at the very last minute or so help me" talk, just like we got after making a decision on something that could potentially impact him without checking with him first.

If there is any talking to do, Noburi should be the one to do it. He and Tenten are the only people in Keiko's life she isn't angry at.

Plus, he's just better at it.

Yeah, that's true.

Maybe add a contingency in the plan to ask Jiraiya to not to be too mad at her if that situation come to pass.

Because I remember the last time we did that and it all worked out. And who knows, maybe Keiko will get super mutant powers by getting dunked into Seventh Path Water.

I mean you're somewhat joking, but this is a viable option in case we can't get the job done.

Assuming she reverse summons to the Pangolin embassy in Toad territory as opposed to where any of her other contactrees are.

Is some variant of the following not possible? If not, ah crap. Inb4 "HDK" :p

"So the deal you (the Pangolins) made is with my clan. Keiko is potentially using her post as your summoner to wantonly neglect her duties and responsibilities to said clan by staying here in the 7th path. As a courtesy, please do not allow her to do this?"

My mental model of most of the Pangolins (given that Pankurashun behaved somewhat similarly to this a while ago IIRC) responds like

"Oh. How dishonorable of her. Keiko you are banned until this is rectified. Please keep the nukes seals coming, thank you."

E: This got a bit chopped up before I posted it somehow, sorry.

E^2: Of course there could be more to the story. Politics makes my head hurt. Fictional alien politics moreso. Ugh.

1) Velorien, wonderful chapter as always

2) I said a while ago I would do a comprehensive reaction post thingy once the exams are done. We are approaching that time, if not already there, so I suppose I should pony up. I will need to grab a new bottle of whiskey later first. Maybe bourbon....

3) You guys seem particularly spoon dry at the moment, or at least thats my read on things. I hope that things get better, and I really appreciate the commitment to consistent updates, as well as y'all dealing with the endless horde of "Can you please clarify X? What about Y? But I thought this said Z..." comments/questions as always. It's amazing really, I have no idea how you folks do it.

Looking forward to your reaction posts!

Seconding that the chapter was great. In spite of being rushed IRL, sister-related quibbles aside (Now isn't it amusing that the chapter title applies to that as well :p), it reads very well. I wish Saya had gotten the chance to talk philosophy, and I hope that we get to see more of them! :D

I like how you avoid direct confrontation through passive aggression pretending to be humour. Is saying "I don't like what you did here" too scary for you?

It was 100% meant to be a joke.

I am genuinely baffled by this interpretation, actually. I don't see myself as the type that avoids saying what I want to say and I had thought that came across through my post history, among the fact that I do tend to make posts on the humorous side of things.

Guess I was wrong though.
