Yes please.

On the vaguely sealtech/industry adjacent side of things: what do we think about hiring some craftsmen for the clan and/or befriending some existing ones? Giving them a writ of patronage, sponsorship, that sort of thing.

People who would come in handy:

Blacksmith
Carpenter (Mr. Ishihara?)
Cobbler(Buy out Haru's dad)
Leatherworker
Motherfucking Bards(This is how you get fame)
Motherfucking Bartenders(This is how you get control of the rumor mill, not by going through Ino)
Misc. Merchants(That spy network)

Would vastly increase #SocialInteractionsWithStrangers regardless of success, and hopefully increase #ChessPieces by a decent amount.
Could we befriend some bartenders here in Mist? Not to mention some bards who are here to watch the tournament. This event has to be like catnip to wandering minstrels, and that sort of person would be invaluable for a spy network.

I have wanted to do more on befriending merchants/bards/whoever is hanging around, but most of the plotting and planning seems to be tied to the Keiko/Ami drama that's sort of sucking up all attention at the moment.

Meh.

Y'know, Mari might like having her own tavern/inn, and there's a kind of poetic symmetry to it.

The Hokage's clan could probably use a privately owned and managed place to put up visiting dignitaries. It would also have some synergy with the Akimichi and Yamanaka businesses.

The compound probably already has plenty of equipment suitable for fermentation and distillation. We need to figure out where that ominous gurgling noise is coming from anyway.

Red-haired depressed person who used to be an expert-in-many-things but is now a shell of their former self, buying an inn and managing it as a part of their new life in attempt to forget the tragedy of their old one?

Why, it almost sounds familiar.
Can't explosive seals be used as perimeter mines? What's the trigger on those, if not pressure? Chakra detection?
If they can it is not a variant known to Hazou or us at the moment.

Implosion Seals do have proximity settings though!

You'd have to ask Kagome.
Given how much we used the things every time we camped it seems like he'd have mentioned it at some point. The safety procedures would be different depending on how they were activated.

Edit:

Thinking more about it, I suspect chakra detection triggers would have a higher chance of catching intruders because they wouldn't have to step directly on the seal to set it off as in a pressure sensing trigger, but if someone knew a minefield was present it would make it rather easy to clear the minefield by throwing any ranged jutsu into the area to set the mines off prematurely.

Also, I'm not sure how a chakra detecting seal could be safely disarmed and reused by the person who planted it, and it seems like Kagome's seals had that feature. They'd have to distinguish individual chakra signatures to exempt them from the trigger and that seems like it'd be advanced stuff if it's even possible.

I note that LBF's are basically "Laser tripwire seal" (at least when we aren't conflating those and ARS for the lulz) so its possible to set up a perimeter solely with these and explosives.

Given Kagome's proclivity for carrying around a decently rich nation's yearly GDP worth of seals, this is not out of the question.

ONE decently rich nation's yearly GDP???

???

Jutsu are either the same cost as taijutsu or half the cost. What am I missing?
Being a jutsu specialist means leveling a bunch of jutsu, plus athletics/alertness. Being a taijutsu specialist involves leveling taijutsu plus athletics/alertness.

e: Say that a jutsu specialist levels approximately 5 techniques, all of the same element.

That costs (1 + 4*.5 = 3) 3 times XP that a taijutsu specialist would spend. The taijutsu specialist can spend the excess XP making himself better at core skills, and taijutsu. It doesn't matter if you get 5 rolls to target someone if they've got 10 athletics up on you, etc.

That is, of course, in addition to them requiring additional chakra, which means you need more chakra reserves than an equivalent-level taijutsu expert, and chakra reserves is double cost.

That too. Although, more chakra is always a good thing, since any reasonable build with its eye on the skies will require that you become a summoner and possibly another highly specific thing with special training as well.

Yes, of course. But as a summoner-jutsu specialist you need even more chakra than either of the others would separately, so it's a wash.

On the other hand, not getting instantly fucked when you try to fight someone that's better than you in your own specialty is a plus.
