Wait, so the pangolins can burrow as far as they want into the walls? They can operate outside of the arena?

So is it possible to use tools outside of the arena?

Get Jiraiya's permission for using Macerators/PMYF.

Keiko riding Pangolin: Consider ranged options (SotE, Macerators, traps?).
If we're going to use Macerators and are allowed to use Macerators there is no point in not showing up in the (Macerator only) CHAOS suit.

If we're blowing OPSEC on Macerators, we can use the V1 Macerators and just throw piles of granite and iron crowbars around.

Also:

@faflec the HLaM fluff (below) seems to indicate that the user cannot bring objects with them outside the HLaM field, and that they cannot drop objects through the HLaM field.

(Unsure if this is still the case.)

The zone infuses earthen materials (dirt, sand, stone) around you with Doton chakra that causes the infused material to act as a fluid, and propelling you in the direction of your choice.

I'm confused. There seems to be quite a lot of moving going on there as a free action (it's not being counted in as a supplemental/standard). Why is that?
...ah shit, you're right. MORE CHANGES

This is a "just in case" we need to use them. Though Jiraiya already did say to not use the seals...hm. Probably get rid of that.

Current rules don't have that, and Hazou was able to slough off a lot of Kotsuzui's blood when going underground. I dunno.

Great!

I want to be very clear about my personal stance on this: I maintain the opinion that using Macerators in this match is a very poor decision.

Current rules don't have that, and Hazou was able to slough off a lot of Kotsuzui's blood when going underground. I dunno.
Thats fair then. *Shrug*

Whats the point of the dirty laundry anyway? Throw off non-Panashe summons from our trail?

More changes. I'm assuming we can forego the HLaM "move 1 Zone" ability in exchange for moving aboveground or belowground. @eaglejarl @Velorien @OliWhail Confirm?
@eaglejarl @Velorien @OliWhail Can a person using HLaM surface completely and then go back underground if the jutsu is still active? Partially? Also, can they HLaM through the walls in the arena?

[X] Action Plan: In Which Our Hero Tries to Assault His Sister

Word count: 261
  • Pre-match preparations:
    • Make several hybrid seals (an explosive seal safely attached to a storage seal, containing a boulder/log).
    • Stuff some of your smelly clothes into a small, readily accessible sack. This may serve to obfuscate our scent and mess with Pangolin tracking.
    • Discuss with Keiko the possibility of her tapping out if we get her, so we don't have to KO her and let it get out that Pangolins go away if Keiko is KO'd.
  • Battle:
    • General: Stay out of sight as possible.
    • R1:
      • Supplemental: Substitute into SE Zone.
      • Standard: HLaM. Go underground. Go into SW Wall Zone.
      • Supplemental + Free: Palm some smelly clothes, and drop them (underground).
    • R2:
      • Supplemental: Move aboveground and get information on Keiko's actions/location.
      • Standard: Living Roots.
      • Supplemental: Go back underground.
      • HLaM (Move): Move towards Keiko's Zone. Don't necessarily take the straightest path.
    • R3 onwards:
      • Continue using HLaM to Move underground until in Keiko's Zone.Don't necessarily take the straightest path.
      • Spend other actions on palming + dropping smelly clothes (underground).
    • Round finale:
      • HLaM: Emerge aboveground.
      • Supplemental: Pantokrator's Hammer.
      • Supplemental: Equip Pangolin Gauntlets.
      • Standard: Punch.
    • Contingencies:
      • Pangaya: Activate + throw a hybrid seal at Keiko, let Pangaya redirect it at her, let the explosive + oversized object Dispel her.
      • CQC Summon: Keep Summon between Keiko/Hazou, blow it up with explosives while going underground to dodge it, Substitute with an object to get closer to Keiko...
      • Pangolin going underground: Alpha blitz Keiko.
      • Keiko riding Pangolin: Consider ranged options (SotE, hybrid seals, traps?).
      • Some crazy bullshit we can't beat. Go full defense, try to outlast Keiko's Pangolin. Then punch.

Some minor changes, to reflect the fact that we don't want to be Pangolin ambushed (stick to the walls) but also don't want to dawdle (since Keiko can go Full Defense).

@faflec, can you add in "Pre-match preparations" agreeing with Keiko to not abuse Substitution privileges during the match? I think it got lost somewhere between versions.

(Yes, we could just revoke her privileges, but for some reason the idea brings to mind horrible edge-case situations where we're attacked by a third party and then one of us dies because we instinctively try to substitute with each other and it doesn't work. Agreeing to not abuse them has the same benefits without this drawback.)

Sure, that's not an issue (and on hindsight I really should have thought of that).

How about agreeing to not go further than Mild Consequences before tapping out instead just having Keiko tap out the moment we get close? (Also protects Hazou from her wrath.)

My imagining of the scenario involves Hazou pinning (or something similar, since she doesn't like physical contact) Keiko and telling her to yield, but I can change that.

I think she is fine with it under the context of sparring/fighting but I could be remembering wrong.

Also, opinion on adding a line about us watching and cheering for Shikamaru and Ino in their matches? Gives the esteemed EJ more fighting scenes to write if he wants to, or have them summerized so we can make plans against Shikamaru later.

We should really not be framing Keiko's victory over us in the tournament as an ideological victory, guys.
Hm. @Noumero, would it be possible for us to account for possibly losing in the speech? Like instead of the "After losing, if possible: –––" maybe integrate it into the speech itself, and point out that we're not being naive and that we expect to encounter obstacles, or lose fights, or whatever whatever, as we continue.

Bah, fine. I'm just worried so many points to cover are going to turn the "smack talk" into a hours-long discussion with several lyric digressions and a music contest in the middle.
[x] Speech Plan: The Abject Despair of an Uncaring World
  • Confirm with Keiko beforehand, hash out an outline.
  • Greet the crowd.
    • Assert that, despite everything, you're genuinely enjoying the Exams and everything they represent: international cooperation and diplomacy, a chance to mingle with different cultures and other-minded people.
    • Doesn't that paint a picture of a better possible world?
  • Let Keiko respond.
    • She would likely note that this event is not about cooperation at all: every village still cares only about itself, and Exams only happen because peace and diplomacy are moderately more advantageous than war, at the moment.
    • All peace is volatile, and could never last for long.
  • Continue verbal sparring from there, expanding the ideological conflict from here-and-now to the global situation. Draw from your past discussions within the team.
    • Insert stories "from your travels" or from Leaf as appropriate. Keep OPSEC in mind.
    • Keiko: Don't get too abstract, be sure to make the grim picture vivid and relatably horrible.
    • Hazou: Inject levity and jokes from time to time, to win the public over. Be sure to admit that improving the world is hard, but that one failure doesn't mean total failure.
    • Most of all: keep the crowd engaged.
  • By the end, your fight should be framed as a fight about ideals:
    • Hazou's victory should represent the triumph of humanity, evoking hope and joy.
    • Keiko's victory should represent the triumph of the uncaring world, evoking despair and horror.
      • After losing, if possible: Restate that one failure isn't reason to stop trying.

What do you think about using 1 earth clone as a contingency to separate Keiko from her summons or as a distraction?

  • They can operate outside the arena like summons
  • They can activate storage scrolls or explosives seals for us
  • Use the ledge as cover from Keiko while leaving her unable to retaliate
  • Maybe even have it where Hazo's stinky clothes
  • And we'd make it 2 vs 2 instead of 2 vs 1
The only thing against it would be chakra cost, sufficiently programming it, and the number of seals to give it.

And the fact that the Earth Clone will have Taijutsu 1, Athletics 1...*everything* 1. We never bothered leveling it. The only use they'd have is as possible bait for a Pangolin to follow, but since its everything is rank 1 I really don't see anyone falling for the ruse. Unless it's underground, in which case the current strategy works just as well.

Hey, can Earth clones use HLaM?

Because if so, then it seems like a strong plan to send an earth clone underground with instructions to build a trap while we keep pressure on Keiko.

Edit: Even if the earth clone is rank 1, allowing an enemy with a packful of explosive seals time to set up is not a threat you can safely ignore.

Except the trap runs off Craftsmanship: Trapmaking, which we have Rank 0 in. Which means the clone will make the shittiest traps imaginable, such that a halfway competent civilian will be able to detect and/or avoid it.

I thought it was casters clone level technique that was 1, but other skills level divided by 3?
