Also if y'all haven't noticed: the range on Spine of the Earth is "Effect."

At a decent level and with a decent level Living Roots active, we can snipe people from a mile away.

Huh, do the spines erupt simultaneously? My intuition was that the technique has travel time at longer distances, but having reread the description, there's no mention of this.

The duration is "Instant" so I assume its pretty close to instantaneous.

You know, Hyuga-spotted long range nintillery could legitimately have potential.
Screw the Hyuga. We can grab the Minami clan on that one, chief.

Do we have any plans for what to do with our free time if we lose?
1) Plot to increase Keiko's odds of winning.
2) More money making schemes.
3) Tea with our dear cousin Shin.
4) More politicking nonsense.
5) Hang out with the Sand Genin.
6) Bullshit around with Noburi.

Maybe plot to let Noburi meet his sisters?

We should definitely try this.

The last time his family was brought up back with Neira he pretended to be all indifferent about it but after his loss in the tournament he specifically mentioned his sisters so we could use that as hook to get convince him to visit his family. Naturally, we will offer to tag along so we can witness some beautiful world building support him.

We would want this in explosives though so we can make ablative armor made out of directional explosives.
Holy crap, that's legitimately brilliant.

I mean, it'd be a really really dangerous suit of armor to wear around your friends, or your own limbs, but...brilliant. I guess you'd lower the strength of the explosives to be what's necessary to stop a sword swing or a kunai and not enough to seriously hurt yourself if your arm or your buddy was in the way of one when it went off.

Socialize with people? Hinata, Ami and Shin would be my first picks. Maybe plot to let Noburi meet his sisters?

I'm in favor of meeting Ami, but I'd actually also be in favor of having a conversation with Hinata along the lines of 'Look, I know our fathers are political rivals, but I don't really want that to be us. What do you think about negotiating some other path that's better for everyone in the next generation than this constant struggle for domination over the other thing that those two do?'

What do you guys think? Can we find a way to make an ally out of Hinata?

I think "political rivals" is heavily understating the situation between Jiraiya and Hiashi. Hiashi has declared literal vendetta, and he won't stop until we're all dead. Any situation wherein Hinata "agrees" to ally with us is going to be a situation where she uses us to help her clan's/father's position, and then she just stabs us.

I don't think it would be difficult at all, tbh. She's not her father, and I think if we made a specific effort we could make nice with her.

Wait, what? Where did he do that?

"Number two: If I lose the hat, the people at this table are utterly fucked. The only viable candidates after me are Shikaku and Hyūga...well, maybe Sunny, if she cashed in all her markers and took her seat as sole survivor of, and therefore head of, the Senju clan. Unfortunately, Shikaku wouldn't take the job if you put a knife to his throat, Sunny probably wouldn't take the seat and probably couldn't win the hat, so Hyūga's in. His clan has all but declared a vendetta against me, and by extension against all of you. With the power of the Hokage linked to his clan's economic and political strength, we'll be destitute in minutes and dead within a year. He'll put all of you on mission after mission, back to back with not enough recuperation time, until you're killed. Me, Hazō, and Kagome will be drafted into the sealing corps and assigned riskier and riskier projects until something kills us."
OK, so I misread "all but declared" as "literally declared", but for all intents and purposes it means the same thing.

Says Jiraiya. I reserve the right to be sceptical about this supposed vendetta. It's not implausible, but it's also an irrational and wasteful strategy that feels out of character for an experienced career politician. It was also very convenient for Jiraiya in terms of protecting the clan's interests at the time, which should always be cause for suspicion.

One of the reasons I'd like to become closer to Hinata would be to test this. Hell, with Hazou's Deceit, he could ask her how she feels about this supposed vendetta and observe the reaction.
